Subject: I'm not enjoying shopping here as much as I used to

estherau ( ) posted Fri, 04 March 2016 at 7:26 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 4:01 AM

I just clicked on a product to find afterwards that it is pretty much a DS product only. It is a new scene in the MP. If I saw it was a DS scene on the initial promo before clicking, and I really liked it I would still click on it to see if I could somehow bring it over for use in poser, but when I have to click on it first to see what it is, it wastes my time and just makes me feel annoyed. I don't think vendors are gaining any sales by the technique of not making what software the thing can be used for, obvious on the initial promo. It's probably having the opposite effect. As shopping becomes more of an effort, I am tending not to click on things that may not be for poser, if they just look like a genesis thing. They might actually be a V4 thing but I'm busy and I can't usually be bothered checking to see. I used to really look forwards to browsing what's new. But now I don't check very often anymore (well I'm pretty busy lately too but I would look if shopping was easier for me). I'm guessing the vendor reasoning is that if they put DS on the front then us poser users won't even look. That is not necessarily true. I would still probably look if it was something really useful to my comic 3D work. I just like to know before i click. Love esther

I know the feeling. It gets irritating having to click on something to find out if I can use it. It says the item name, the department and the vendor. Why couldn't they include the software too?

They do, but the software compatibility category box results are terribad-- even worse than the marketplace and freestuff searches combined!

JohnDoe641 ( ) posted Fri, 04 March 2016 at 11:52 PM

Yeah, all of that daz stuff is useless to me since I'm a Poser user. It's sad but eh... it saves me money.

True that Poser-compatible products have fallen in number in the Marketplace. A pity. But I save money. I have also learned how to created my own 3D stuff, which is exactly what I need for my projects.

Rendo could just stick a 'P' or a 'D' or a 'PD' next to the price.

Helos ( ) posted Sat, 05 March 2016 at 6:29 AM

I have the same feeling here. In the last months I don't buy very often at RM, 'cause I don't need that now offered stuff (Genesis figures and DAZ|Sudio things). I'm a Poser and V4/M4 user. All items that are not applicable in Poser can't get my interest.

It's sad, but I save money! Henning

That is a good idea, I don't buy here at all now but perhaps that is because I want to enjoy spending my money. The MP here is too much like hard work and a pain to use.

Yes. This is the reason I stopped bothering to look at the MP here some time ago. If I have to click on several products just to find out what they are and then find none of them are any use to me then I lose interest very fast.

Unfortunately the search tools are next to useless. I tried with a vendor's store yesterday. For example I wanted to search for only items that were compatible with Poser. But the buttons for different versions of Poser show different products and can't be selected together. Total mess!

The letters on the promo to show what software they are for would be a really good idea!

I am curious Now that you all have the option of a functional Genesis 3 Female in poser, will you not have to buy her native"Daz only " content (clothing& hair) and transfer it over to render in poser ??

Despite this technological breakthrough you still will have to keep Daz studio in your workflow will you not??

I'm on mac and i managed to bring gen 3 into poser with expressions (using that new free wildial script), using winebottler which is free and doesn't involve running real windows or viruses. But anyway genesis is a bit slow and flakey in poser. I would really like a what's new category that doesn't include genesis. We can always opt in if we want it. That would make shopping much easier. It has really become a bit of a strain, and I spend 1000s of dollars on my 3D hobby so it is a pity that no one takes notice of what seems to me to be a really simple request. Please renderosity, just make a what's new (no genesis) category. Or failing that, just label the items as genesis only so people can see what the thing is, and if they think they can still use it in poser then they are welcome to click on it.

Thanks estherau, but I don't must have Genesis with all that trial and errors at all costs. I'm so far satisfied with V4/M4 and the whole bunch of clothes I have.

... and I second the rest you've written: Hey Rendo, please read this writing on the wall by estherau!

I am another one who would agree with a Genesis 3 option, be it opt in or an opt out option. This is not like a supermarket where you arrange the store so that customers have to walk past the chocolate to get to the checkout in the hope that they will be tempted. If you don't use Genesis you are not going to be tempted and you are not going to wade through hundreds of products that you are not interested in with the forlorn hope that something non-genesis will pop up.

Having an option should help to keep both parties happy and more importantly, shopping.

I am buying here less, visiting here less often and haven't uploaded any free stuff in a while. This site is frustrating, and most of the cause of irritation is in the website design.

I actually bought something last night for the first time since July; I happened across a nice sale on 3D-Age's store entirely by accident. The item was on my W/L, but I never got a notification. However, I always seem to get notifications when W/L items are on Prime sale, but I'm not a Prime member... 😾

Esther, I feel your pain. I can only more Poser creators come on board.

false1 ( ) posted Sat, 26 March 2016 at 7:41 AM

Rendo's discovery functions never did appeal to me. The other store that was recently assimilated always seemed to have the best functionality for me. I'm also spending less these days, finding a lot of forgotten content hiding in the back of my runtime, and saving time and money usually wasted on shopping.

The various Prime and Platinum schemes around the various marketplaces also stick in my craw. It's a way for you to pay up front and lock you in to a MP in order to realize the "value". It entices you to buy what you might not usually buy because it's a bargain. You can go broke saving money. The bundles and BOGOs are also carefully designed to play on human nature and our consumerist culture, similar to how casinos reel you in by tossing out a few shekels now and then.

@Wolf359. Regarding Genesis 3, you'd need an electron microscope to measure my interest in that particular figure. I'm almost surprised at how little I care.

Again, I feel your pain. I know when I used to shop, I would go, Yeah! I want that. I'll want that for later. Look at the deal!

Now it's like, "DAZ only. V7 only. No. No. NO! Looks I'll keep waiting."

Luckily, I can pick more items on clearance. They are a bit more than they were before the change but all costs rise. Full disclosure. I Aiko3 is my favorite but I still use figures up till Genesis 3. I'll have to wait until I can pick up Poser 11 before I try her out. I understand trying to crush the competition but I understand that a better business model is to get everyone involved.

I just thought I would chime in. I am new to poser. I have been using it 1 yr. but in that it I have spent $1000 here and Renderosity alone. I only use poser. I do not have daz3d installed on my machine. I would like to see a better way to find poser compatible things.

-Timberwolf- ( ) posted Sun, 27 March 2016 at 11:26 AM

I am o.k. with G3 stuff since Poser has not a lot to offer at the moment. The Problem is, that with G3 items we're going the same path as with V4 stuff. Allways repeating slut wear and pre-dialed character sets. If you want to support a figure, make something custom. Add something new to that digital gene pool. E.G. Custom made smiles are missing. Making new Hair is never wrong. What both Poser and DAZ- users whould most benefit from, are props and environments.

I have found most of the sale announcements I get in my email box pertain almost always to membership product prices and not as much to regular consumer buy prices. It seems they really want everyone to join the club and offer those deals to do so. I get pissed off clicking on the links sometimes only to find I need to join the Renderosity Consumer Club (or whatever it is officially called) to get the promotional $3 price on it. Should include that detail in the promo letter they send out. Yeah more and more stuff in the freestuff section is getting to be for D/S. I am not a D/S user so ALL products not for Poser I ignore. It just frustrates me looking at them and not liking them not be able to use them.

I don't get the promotions anymore as I turned them all off. I never go in the market place and mostly stay in lurk mode in the forums. I still have Prime membership for a few months and I don't even bother the download the monthly paid for 'freebie'.
