Subject: Having trouble with importing a character into Daz Studio 4.9

I have installed this character into daz studio 3rd party content folder but I get these errors when I try to use makeups. Can anyone help?Thanks!!

The problem is the 3rd party Content folder, and the folders within that. The Runtime and Data folders from the product, and any other folders at the same level of the zip, need to go in the actual content directory - My Library here - not in a sub-folder.

even though in Content Directory Manager, I added the 3rd party folder link? I'd rather not dump all content in the same folders if I don't need to..

You created a nest library, make the 3rd party content folder its own library in documents.

It was set up like that in Daz already, I just added the items to 3rd party content..

If you want to have a '3rd party content library' you should move it out of the 'My Library folder' to the same level as the My Library and add it as a second library through the Content Directory Manager in DS. You also do not want to have a setup where you have 1000 different libraries all nested under your main library, DS is just not designed to handle content in that fashion. the 3rd party content folder is the nested folder and should not be placed within the current My library folder. Nesting is basically libraries within libraries. Each library should be its own top level and not have additional libraries stored within it. Products should be merged into existing libraries, and not added as individual libraries unless specifically required as such, this will help keep your library efficient and make content easier to find in DS.

Also figure morphs should be installed to the same directory as the figure or expect to see issues.

THANK YOU ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ !!! They all at DAZ told me, that I was doing something wrong with my folder organization, but N.O.B.A.D.Y. was willing to tellme, how it is done correctley. DAZ Studio might be great, but their support is ****.

EDIT: Tried to solve my problem by reorginazing my folder structure. Didn't work. There seem to be a stereotype answer from the DAZ-support, whenever you having issues with DAZStudio: "Oh, you've got nested library - end off".

Nested content directories are storing up issues for the future, if nothing else, so yes they are a thing to check for and fix. Of course there are other things to check - that the content directory, the folder that contains the Data and Runtime folders, is in fact selected as a content directory of the right type in DS for one, and that the files are then appearing under Poser Formats or Daz Studio Formats (as appropriate).

Thank you for the graphic, it helps. So basically Daz set up the folder structure the wrong way for 3rd party content is what I'm reading into this? I totally understand your point, but its frustrating for new users who see a folder labeled "3rd party content" and then nothing works right where they have it installed.

Studio is not doing anything wrong, that is how relative addressing works. A partial relative path is in the product file, Studio adds the library paths in the Content Directory Manager to build the complete path. Nested libraries confuses the process and trying to program Studio to sort the mess out would just result in code bloat and slow the program down.

Hmm, okay, I guess I'm still confused, but will set up my directory as stated above. I guess its way easier to deal with content Daz's install manger can do. sigh thanks for all the help everyone!!

So my stuff is installed like this: DAZ Studio 4.9/ My Library/ People, Pose, Props, Shader Presets, Clothings, Runtime, ect. Is this nested or not?

Does that mean it's in the application folder, or just a folder you created with that name? In the application folder would be wrong, at least for Windows, but as long as that My Library folder is set as a content directory in DS (and isn't inside another content directory) it should be fine.

Installing your content in the same directory as the application directory that gets updated seems really dangerous. I would separate them out. If you don't understand how the DS uses content ALWAYS take the defaults.

Unbenannt02.jpg so, is this the way it's suppose to be? Has the folder, that contains personal and purchased content, be named as "content" or will "My Library" work as well?

It can be named "3D Crud" or pretty much anything else just as long as it is linked properly in Studio's Content Directory Manager.
