This is for all the folks who think Dina looks like a man (I don't). Have I said how much I like this figure? ;) Hope ya like it :) DAZ Flip hair with Digital Babes texture, earrings by Mehndi. Eye textures by me. Makeup and detail in Photoshop. Laurie

aleks ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 2:26 PM

laurie, you asked for it :o) i never saw dina from that close, but now i now for sure that i won't buy her. it's not that you didn't make the best out of her, it's just that i don't like plastic surgery only for the "beauty's" sake. to me, it seems as she had her (that part of nose between the eyes - sorry for my english) thinned, and the swelling that is stretching until her inner part of eye, is not yet gone away. her upper lip seemingly got also some treatment, as the very flat upper philtrum shows. and her collar bones are just... ummm... not human... well, that's all. hope you're not angry :-)

Helen ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 2:28 PM

Laurie I like her.. Don't have her...Or the money to get her at this stage. Got to pay for my PhilC CD.. Darn banks are sloooooooooooooooow. I think when it comes down to it. It is just a matter of taste. Some will like her and others won't.. Like they say you can't win them all.. :)

OK lets not forget, Vicky had plastic surgery too, She was DAMN OUT RIGHT uglier then sin itself when Daz released her. The MAGIC of the poser forum and the community with DAZ also working in the surgery room made her one hell of a babe. So She may look like a man now but when the poser community fixes her she should compete with Vicky.

dcort ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 2:44 PM

I think you made her look great, Laurie.

Laurie, nicely done :) Somewhat fewer make-up? Not everyone can be convinced. Mazak

It's nice, she is different and I think that is the point, not to look like Victoria. You did a good job. Sharen

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 3:54 PM

Oh, I know not everyone can be convinced Mazak :). I just don't think she looks as bad as some folks are saying is all. I know it's a matter of taste, but I like her because she DOESN'T look like Vicky. Not to say that Vicky is bad - I have Vicky and all the trimmings and I love Vicky, but I'm pretty taken with Dina too ;). Laurie

movida ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 3:55 PM

Why does Dina have to be "fixed". Why is everyone trying to make her look like another (I'm going to be politically incorrect here but there is a point I'm trying to make) Anglo (in spanish "guerra"). Sorry I don't find her unattractive or think she looks like a man. But I'm female and probably resent men trying to make us all look like Michelle Pfeiffer/Cheryl Tiegs, not that there is anything wrong with either of the 2 women mentioned and I happen to like them both. Sophia Loren would probably look like a man if scanned and modeled.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 3:58 PM

Still don't like her. Sorry Laurie S

leather-guy ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 4:03 PM

Nice work! Dina shows an individual character I like. Not everyone does poser for hyper-fantasized dream icons. :-))

Thanks Laurie S I am by no means saying that I want a perfect woman but just that I haven't seen a reason to go "Cool, I can't do that with Vicki"

Makes sense :). Different strokes, I guess :). Laurie

i still like vicky better :) but ive been messing with morphing dina and she has a lot of potential. its all up to the community and DSI now to offer enough support. i think they should release an 'update' with a more appealing face to those that have already bought her. either way, i still dont think shes a complete vicky replacement, since shes nowhere near as versatile and widely supported as vicky, nor as user friendly, but im sure she has a great potential. now lets see people make some morphs and take advantage of her dense mesh to bring out some really amazing detail. the pic is of vicky2 with the controversial asia texture and cleo power hair from the marketplace. glasses are anton's victoria changing eyewear from daz.

and heres something im working on with dina. please dont take this as a comparison - i spent much more time on the lighting in vicky's image. theres no postwork on the vicky image, and a little bit on the dina one. same cleo power hair. only weak points ive found so far with the face are that the eyelash/eyebrow transmap needs some work (no doubt someone will release one soon) and the nostrils need a morph to make them less 'flared' or 'snarling'. i came up with this face after messing with dina for about an hour.

Very nice Blackhearted...I like both of them :). How did you do Dina's nose? That is the one area of her face that I can't get the way I want, but you've come pretty close :). BTW, I toned down the makeup from the last image. Gotta agree, there was too much. Blame my mother for that ;). Oh, and something else. I never said or wanted Dina to be a replacement for Vicky. I hope that never happens. I just think Dina's a nice addition to my toolbox :). And the Dina morphs will come, just wait and see. And I wholeheartedly agree with the transmap for Dina's eyebrows! If I thought I could make a better one, there'd be one in freestuff right now ;). Laurie

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 8:09 PM

What's up with the yellow skin on your Vicky pic Blackhearted? Is that the lighting? She looks jaundiced a little bit. Or is that just my monitor? Just an observation :). Laurie

Blackhearted ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 8:17 PM

lol - take that up with the creator of the texture. it has a yellowish tint to it. i dont think its too bad - kindof mediterranean or suntanned. noa, on the other hand, is green :)

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 8:36 PM

That's the texture??? Whoa, that's yella! My family is full of Italians and not one is "quite" that olive skinned...even my full-blood pappy! LOL! Laurie

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 10:06 PM

Yep .. It is the texture.

decided to remake the above vicky image, since everyone was bugging me about the texture. someone even said she looked masculine :( anyways, if youre interested here is the link. it was a nightmare to render, since the cleo power hair is probably the most resource-intensive hair that exists, and asia (second only to noa which is a few 1000 pixels larger) is a pretty big resource hog herself. add to that the vicky2 geometry, the spotlights, the glasses, reflection maps, bump maps, lol and you have a poser image that takes almost 20 min to render on even a very fast machine. let me know which you think is better, the one above or the new one... cheers, gabriel

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 10:51 PM

This new one looks a little less yellow Blackhearted ;). Maybe a lot of the yellow in the tex is accentuated by the lighting? It really IS a damn nice texture map - one of the best I've seen - but I have quite a few from Catharina Harders that I think are just as nice :). I can only use so many textures, although I would like a really good African American texture for Vicky. Any recommendations? Laurie

Blackhearted ( ) posted Sun, 14 October 2001 at 11:06 PM

hmm.. my experience with black textures is pretty limited. i know theyre really hard to make because the skin is too dark to make photo textures properly (and you get strong highlights on the texture, which is bad), but the painted ones have far too little detail. i bought lucie from daz, but she turned out to be a painted tex. still a good one, but for close-ups theyre not good enough (for me at least).

brycetech ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2001 at 4:51 AM

hey laurie imho...this is a great picture :) very attractive. and with your picture of the two models side-by-side, I see what is wrong with dina's nose that makes it look flared. There's too much space between the top of the lip and the bottom of the nose on dina. I feel very certain that is what is making that 'snarl' she has. so, I think this will reinforce a tech construction theory I have been thinking about. I think that when they smoothed the mesh, they lost much of the details (the muscles) and places like distances where the mesh has such sharp angular changes, the program spread them apart..and that would give the 'no muscle tone' as well as the distance in the lip to nose. But, this is a very nice picture of a woman. :) BT

gryffnn ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2001 at 6:31 AM

Blackhearted, I like the personality you've added to the second render - but the first one just blew me away. If you lowered the bump map strength on the lips and made the eyes more hazel, it would look JUST like an old friend, even the skin tone.

Hey Gabriel, Your right about colored textures. In fact, when Cyber F/X had to scan Weslie Snipes (sp?) they had to put a light coat of talcum powder on him, because the skin pigmitation absorbs allot of light. I have seen some people create some really good dark textures, however, you have to be very careful with the lighting otherwise they come out looking more green/brown, so I gave up trying :o) Thanks to Jaager and Traveler's tutorials, I am learning how to create morphs. So I am looking forward to doing some work with Dina :o) Jack

Robert Kopp ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2001 at 1:06 PM

for me, they look like mother and daughter and this could be the right places for both. Mother Dina with her daughter Vicky. I know, Vicky was first but this is another story :-) btw. on every picture from Dina I think I see a moustache Robert

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2001 at 1:39 PM

brycetech, you may be right about what happened between scan and finished model. Something we'll have to look at next time. Although I'd have to go back and look at the original scan to see if that's the case. At any rate, I have made morphs to lower the nose and the eyebrows a bit. They're in my morph package 1 at renderotica and grc free stuff. Gabriel, I really like the second image much better. That texture really captures the skin well except for the artificial highlights from the photographs which should be removed. But IMHO the blood vessels in the eyes are too dark and thick and there's something odd about the way the lips have been applied to the map. The wrinkles are running the wrong direction. BTW, a hint. Make the nostrils material a fairly dark grey-brown with a hint of red in it and you will get rid of the glowing nostril effect Poser has. Laurie, I have a black texture for Vicki that is not made totally from photographs, but has a good bump map that gives the skin a pretty realistic look. Check out LaTanya and see what you think.

LaurieA ( ) posted Mon, 15 October 2001 at 3:52 PM

Where would that be Diane? Here or the GRC? I can't find it in the store here :). Laurie
