Subject: Daz genesis 8 male characters

I am appalled to see the mediocrity et low quality of the new genesis 8 males. The characters are totally botched, insipid, no charisma they are all the same, more or less effeminate. Textures have no realism and are for a mediocre quality. It is not by proposing characters so little charismatic and sexy whom they will rebalance the sale of the characters male and female.

Outside of George and Old chap I tend to agree with you. They aren't doing much for me either. I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say "botched", I just haven't seen anything that makes me pull my wallet out yet there. Frankly while I have some Generation 8, I'm still using V7/M7 for pretty much all I do. To date the M7 line has been a lot more interesting.

For me it's a matter of personal taste. Some I like .... some I am neutral about

I'm going to disagree with you there and it does come down to personal taste. Fact of the matter is if there was actually an issue with the characters, they would have changed them by now, so you should probably count your taste on the fringe of what actually sells. Most of the time when i see posts about effeminate characters, that means old and ugly which will absolutely NOT sell. The characters fall somewhere between real and slightly unrealistic so they be modified in either direction and that's been going on since I started with M4. That said, the characters are flexible enough to make them into what you want from that base. I like M8 more than I did M7, probably cause he has a thicker build; but their characters have had room to be improved by end users, especially with changing skins and adding body and facial hair from the current and previous generations.

I think he was probably referring back to Roland's post not yours drafter.

I believe I said it was a matter of personal taste in the very first sentence of my post and you are allowed to have your own personal taste. Regardless, in the end sales are what determines what gets made and obviously what is being made is what sells. I can have a personal taste in Microsoft zunes and yet they're no longer sold.

It simply is what it is.

I just looked at the G8 male characters. What the actual heck! They're kidding with those, right? They're awful.

I find the tone of this thread to be rather cynical.

Allowing two months and a single Daz 0 character (Michael 8) to be released seems to be jumping the gun quite a bit imo. (Lucas 8 came out after this thread was started) To be honest for a figure that is slightly over two months old I think there is already quite a diverse offering in characters and content available for Genesis 8 Male.

There are already over 160 Genesis 8 Male items in the Daz store alone and the diversity of characters is quite broad considering the figure has only been out for only 9 weeks.

There are quite a number of characters such as Lucas 8, Michael 8, Adam, George, A Vampyre, An Orc Brute, a Pumpkin head, numerous body and head morph kits including Vascularity and Massive morphs. Can you say that any other figure outside of the Genesis range receives this level of support and variety of content after such a short release period?

Maybe instead of offering direct criticism at the PA's and vendors existing work after such a short period of time, it would be better to request what it is exactly you are looking for in a character. As your criticisms here add up to a total of "I don't like it..." and that doesn't really offer anything constructive for those that are creating content to help you with.

It may be a useful exercise to compare Genesis 8 Male to its competitors such as Paul and Dusk to see what is really being offered... There are 171 products for Dusk at Hivewire3D after nearly 4 years, and well content for Paul your on you're own.

FlagonsWorkshop ( ) posted Wed, 25 October 2017 at 10:48 AM

I don't know what I am looking for, I simply know I haven't bought Generation 8 males in any quantity yet because I'm not seeing anything that makes me buy. And I am not comparing to Poser support, because, well who cares?, I am comparing to the amount of Genesis 3 males I have bought. The only G8 males I have bought thus far are the original M8 Pro Package, George, and the Old Guy. And frankly I haven't used any of them yet, I am still using Genesis 3. Pretty much for the females too, I have gotten more V8 content, I haven't used any of it yet. So there has been a lack of "ooo, I gotta have that!". shrug. Yeah there are some terms of "awful" and "botched" being used, all I am saying is yawn. With the Females, the selling point to me was the better facial expression controls. And again, I really haven't used it yet.

The criticism was over the quality, not the quantity.

@diogenese19348 Yawning is fair enough, if something doesn't grab you, then it doesn't grab you. Hopefully something will come along that will inspire you with the Genesis 8 series. I've been pretty impressed so far. I wasn't meaning to compare Poser as such, just other male figures available in the market.

@flibbits may I ask what it is with the quality you have an issue with? There are characters out for Genesis 8 male by numerous different content creators, are you saying somehow the quality is bad with all of them? Quality is totally different then something not appealing to your own personal taste, such as they are too effeminate for example. Quality general means there is some kind of technical defect or issue?

If quality is the issue for you, what is effecting said quality to make it "awful" or "botched"? Which of the characters have you bought and tried out to know there are technical issues with the quality ?

flibbits ( ) posted Wed, 25 October 2017 at 10:23 PM

They don't look like male people. Many of them have feminine features and/or odd features.

Razor42 ( ) posted Wed, 25 October 2017 at 11:25 PM · edited Wed, 25 October 2017 at 11:39 PM

So is it the morphs you have issue with? Is it head or the body morphs specifically? Or is it the textures? Have you tried taking a 'Feminine' character and adding some more masculine type morphs such as body builder or Massive? For example take the Adam HD character. I'm not sure you could call it feminine in any sense. The textures are not to my taste (a little shiny I guess, but that could be the lighting) but there is no reason you couldn't use another texture or tweak the existing ones to personal taste, even Genesis 3 textures can be used on the morphs.

Have you ever thought that what your opinion is of what makes a male character 'masculine', may not be what is commercially the most popular? Is it "quality" or your particular ideal of what constitutes a "male" not being met, that's is the issue here. Lucas 8 Pro pack is near the top of whats hot at the Daz Store for well over a week now. And while Lucas 8 doesn't look like he will be fighting dragons any time soon. Its clear that many do see some appeal in the character type.

Maybe you could post an image of what defines a "Male Person" to you? Or a different Male figure that does fit your own ideal. From what I can see morph wise there is a fair diversity available after only 2 months. Plus when you add Genesis 3 textures to the new character textures being produced a fair diversity in skin for Genesis 8.

I'm not trying to say that your opinion doesn't matter, just that it may be better to say "I would like to see more characters that look like X, not that all characters are "Botched", "awful" and lack quality. Especially when it seems the main issue is that the current range of characters do not seem to meet your personal taste.

Here is Base Michael 8 compared to Michael 8 Modified with some Head and Body Morph resources. 2 minutes of dial spinning.

To be honest, it seems every generation has the same threads, when most of the problems can be solved by doing a dial spin or mixing morphs. It's not like going to store and buying a can of beans knowing that all it's going to be is just beans. As with the previous generations since Michael 3, experiment and move a dial until you have something you like. The figures are supposed to be a base for your creativity, not the end of it.

Razor42 ( ) posted Thu, 26 October 2017 at 6:51 PM

For myself it helps to think of both characters and figures as more of a gene pool rather than a set in stone absolutes. Genesis 8 doesn't mean abandoning the other figures entirely nor does each character have be used as it comes in the box.

flibbits ( ) posted Tue, 31 October 2017 at 4:54 PM

Yes, I can make masculine looking characters. I was commenting on the characters as designed.

Razor42 ( ) posted Tue, 31 October 2017 at 7:57 PM · edited Tue, 31 October 2017 at 8:00 PM

Just to be clear, the reason you do not like the new Genesis 8 Male characters is, that they are too feminine for your own taste. Even though you can quite easily make them more masculine with a few dial spins? Let's say that the characters were dialled to be more masculine out of the box, do you think this same thread would exist in opposite, with other participants asking why the new Genesis 8 characters are 'So unrealistic, their over the top masculinity is such a stereotype and offers unrealistic body image pressures on young people?" and I would be here telling people that they can use dials to make their Genesis 8 males look more feminine if they personally prefer them that way?

The OP here makes a comment in his first post. " It is not by proposing characters so little charismatic and sexy whom they will re-balance the sale of the characters male and female."

In fact it's amazing how often I see a threads about asking why vendors/PA's/CA's do not create more male content. Yet strangely when a major store does get behind a major Male content push the feedback here is "totally botched, insipid, no charisma they are all the same, more or less effeminate, What the actual heck! They're kidding with those, right? They're awful."

Ever heard the term 'vicious cycle'?

Well said... and for the record I very much like the new Daz Male characters. With the morph dials I can make them into a variety of characters.
