Poser Library not alphabetical

I recently purchased a new iMac Pro and upgraded from Poser Pro 2014 to Poser 11 Pro. Now my old machine used High Sierra but now I am using Mojave. When I was using High Sierra my Poser 11 Pro worked perfectly but when I installed it onto the new machine with Mojave all of a sudden all of my content libraries were no longer in alphabetical order. So I went out to SmithMicro and tried to submit a ticket but it kept asking for my version nr. and no matter what I typed in its would tell me to type in the correct version and would not let me submit a ticket. So I then tried to find a way to contact them but it turns out that they have suspended all live technical support and will only allow you to look at the forums or to submit a ticket.

Now I did find the thread below but I tried to follow what they said to do but when I click on the system hard drive there are four folders, Applications, Library, System, and Users. There is no Library folder inside my Users folder or inside my User/username folder. So I clicked on Library/Application Support/ but there is no folder or file called Poser Pro11 and no file called Poser Prefs. I have searched every place on that drive and I can find no document called Poser Prefs or Poser Pro11 Prefs. I even called Apple Support and we spent over two hours looking and found nothing.

So how do I find this document in question so that I can change it. Otherwise this program is useless as it requires literally looking at each content library item to find what I am looking for and tripples or quadruples the time required to add anything at all. I am a user and not a coder or a programmer and so I have no idea what else to try. So please help me here. How/where do I find this prefs document or is there another fix so that I can fix this issue. Quite obviously I am not the only one who has encountered this . . . thank you . . .

__****If you are seeing your Library Folder (Figures, Pose, etc...) not in Alphabetical Order, you most likely just need to change the Sort method for that Library.

You need to change the option in the Poser Preference for the Library using a Text Editor. The Poser Preferences is located at

Mac "User/username/Library/Application Support/Poser Pro/11/Poser Prefs"

Win Poser.ini is on Windows is in Users\AppDataRoamingPoser Pro11"

Open the file using a Text Editor and locate the line LIB_ITEMS_SERVER_SORT Setting it to 1 from 0 should fix the issue. Category :GraphicsUpdated on 28 Feb 2019 08:43 PM****

Are you sure there's no such folder? Can you show how you know there isn't? A screen shot maybe? Perhaps you're looking in the wrong place.

Also, doesn't Mac have a search feature? Did you type poser.ini into the search thingy?

How about this.

Open Poser 11.

Click on menu Scripts / Python Shell.

After the Python Shell window opens, type:

poser.PrefsLocation()

and hit Enter.

The path to your preferences will then be displayed.

The problem is with your OS not Poser. With the advent of SSDs Macs have changed how they operate. You can read about it on the Poser forum which I am not entirely sure I can link to. Here's the relevant info from Apple which I can link to. https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT208209 On the SM forum look for "MacOS Mojave compatibility" where Apple users are saying that changing the value in LIB_ITEM_SERVER_SORT solves the issue. Refer to the Apple link for that info.

Thank you and I wondered about it being an OS problem and not a Poser problem although I did have an Apple tech on the line for over two hours and he did a screen share and we searched everywhere we could possibly think of. Now I followed your direction and opened Poser and did the search for the Poser prefs and it did give me a path and so I have to assume that a file exists somewhere in part because under the File there is a Preferences and I have been through them and so there has to be some kind of document that runs the script. Now yes, I can do a couple of screen shots and I will and if you could look at them that would be great as there has to be a solution here . . . I followed the path indicated in the script prefs location search and nothing, there was nothing there . . . so where, can you tell me, do the OS prefs reside, they have to be somewhere, I wonder if the Poser prefs could be hiding there . . .

I'm sorry, but did you not understand the solution offered by Apple? You have to log in to your Mac as Admin, the Root User, Master Account or whatever Apple calls the one user that can make system changes. I don't use a Mac so I haven't the terminology. That User (what ever they call it) can execute commands via the Terminal (command line interface) that can make permanent changes across the entire system. The change you are looking to make is:

defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores -bool TRUE

Exit the Master account. Reboot and go back to your normal user account.

As the Root user adding the following in the terminal will return the sort behaviour as High Sierra:

defaults write com.apple.desktopservices UseBareEnumeration -bool FALSE

PDG You're describing how to change the OS behavior. The other solution that the OP is seeking is how to change Poser's behavior. Either will solve the problem.

The OP cannot locate poser.ini however, so cannot attempt to turn on the alternate Poser setting found inside poser.ini

You neglected to confirm for us what path Poser told you. What did it say? Also you did not "search" for the prefs - you asked Poser to literally tell you where it is.

People who use Mac - is there some setting that hides files and folder from users? I don't believe for a minute the poser.ini doesn't exist. I totally believe it's hidden from graphyx but I cannot offer any technical advice to address this theory. Who is a Mac user and knows the visibility rules for files?

As a for-instance, the official paths for data files in Windows have changed. For some of these Windows OS evolutions, Microsoft created virtual paths that answer to programs that use them, but the virtual paths do not show up in Explorer. You cannot visually browse to these paths. They only answer if you specifically try to use them programmatically, such as within an older application. Is there a similar behavioral evolution in Mac?

It is a hidden folder. I’m away from my Mac, but as I recall, it will appear under Go when you press the alt key. You can also use Monitor to turn hidden files visible, but that requires entering command line instructions. SM says Mojave is not supported by current editions of Poser, but with the fix, Poser 11 works fine.

The basic poser files are in user/shared/poser11 etc on the Mac internal disc I have several runtimes on an external disc. When the Library is opened all files on that disc are in alphabetical order; but when I call up the Poser11 runtime, which is on the Mac's internal disc, the files are in random order. I have reported this to Apple under the beta testing scheme - five times to date. As well as this, if you have the mosr recent render window showing you will find that these too are not in alphabetical order. So far I have had no response from Apple. It did not happen in High Sierra or earlier.

OK - that fix for the Library was MOST welcome (LIB_ITEMS_SERVER_SORT) and has fixed the Library for me - thank you for that. It would be handy to have such a fix for the RecentRenders window, but I couldn't see anything in the Prefs list that might refer to this. Cheers!

Nobody has come up with a fix for the recent renders issue.

I went through this when I upgraded to PP11 on my Mac from 10. I was using High Sierra at the time. I was directed to make the change in the (hidden) preferences file. When I got there, it was already set to the setting that they said to change it to. I gave up and moved all my power stuff to. Windows 10 PC where it works fine. I got a new Mac and tried Poser again on it running Mojave. The alphabetical problem was still there. Smith Micro said thabPoser doesn’t support Mojave’s, and ignored the fact that I had the same issue with High Sierra. So much for customer service. If anybody ever solves this one they should be inducted in to the Poser user hall of fame.

I have been away from my computer for the last ten days and so am just now getting back to this issue . . . I will re-read all of these posts again but to say the least I am really pissed at SmithMicro and especially when I see that we have paid money for expensive software and then they have decided to suspend all live technical support. And the problem with the ticket submission, at least for me is that when typing in the version, Poser 11 Pro, I type in Poser 11 and then it won't allow me to finish but that my serial nr. tells them it's the Pro version, it also then won't accept my submission . . . oh well, well I will re-read all of the entries here and maybe I will get lucky . . .

All right, I just got off the phone with Apple, I had a different question but while I had them on the phone I asked again about this issue and where to find the prefs file and we found it and I changed the 0 to 1 and now my library elements are all in alphabetical order again . . .

Finder > hold down the option key and click on GO in menu and scroll down to Library and then Application Support. Click on Poser Pro > 11 > LIB_ITEMS_SERVER_SORT 1

You will change the 0 to 1
