Subject: Adjusting Existing UV Maps/Textures

I've dabbled a bit in Blender, but have only really used Blender to add UV Maps so that I could add textures in DAZ, but today I would like to try something that I haven't done yet; adjusting existing mapping of an object.

I've recently purchased a guitar, from Turbosquid, and although the guitar looks great, the binding around the body is too wide, therefore I'd like to narrow the binding a bit, but I don't know how to go about doing this.

So, I loaded the obj into Blender, and this is what I get when I use the UV map editor. I can click onto one of the segments, but I don't know how to click onto several of them to make them narrower. And I don't really know if that would even work...making them narrower, that is.

In the second photo, I have zoomed in on the Binding template to show its complexities.

Is there any way to shrink the width?!

The non-parallel section might be tricky, but you should be able to scale the binding.

It is better to do one thing well, than to do many things and excel at nothing.

OK I think I grasp what you are asking Crispycraft so bear with me as try to put my answer into words first each of those are individual islands if you hover your mouse over the individual island and hit the "L: key on your keyboard that will highlight that island and then you can use the scale and rotate to make changes to that island I have personally found that when working on UV's and wanting to make changes especially to the scaling of those island is best to be either in Face or Edge selection mode see the red arrow in my screen shot below also my screen shot is from Blender 2.79 have not tried the UV tools in 2.8 but think they would work pretty much the same and this is a good UV tips tutorial by CG MASTERS 10 Essential UV Tips and Tricks | Blender Tutorial I do hope this helps do let me know

Thanks for the replies, guys. Lobo, I have actually scaled the islands, on the uv map section, but this scaling is not effecting the size of the binding of the actual models texture. I can now see that it is due to how the model was unwrapped. If I go to the model, and click a cell (Island), I can scale it to the size that is correct, but it then distorts the models texturing, as it stretches the texture (in this case, wood grain). To me, it looks as though the builder didn't actually separate the binding of the guitar from the body of the guitar, during the mapping process. Therefore, no matter what I do to the "Binding" mesh, no scaling takes place. I' believe that the model would need to be UV Unwrapped again, but actually segregating the texturing, in order for any scaling to take place. This seems like a big challenge for someone of my little knowledge of Blender.

OK from the sound of it seems that it would need to be re-UV'ed Here is a tutorial from CGCookie CGC Classic: Modeling and Texturing an Electric Guitar it is a bit dated but it also includes how to UV unwrap it and that might give you some guidance in Re-UVing the model you have but you might need to retexture it also so really depends how far you want to delve into this project unless you want to model one for yourself from start to finish

Once you do a few UV in Blender I actually think was easier to learn than most other software granted not an expert but di find UVing easier in Blender it sort of just clicked if that makes sense
