The upgrade issue seems a sensitive topic with many of those that wish to help novices, I hope this is only temporary and that as time passes, the user community will become settled.

I think it's mostly just today. There was someone here just before you who was extremely rude and trollish, and just got worse the more people tried to help him. So the forum was kind of riled up. I think a lot of the frustration over him spilled over onto you. We're usually not that thin-skinned.

First time ever that upgrade had such negative comments.....:(

Should've been around for Poser 5's release (heh.)

Seriously though - there is a pinned top post or three with tons of support info, yes?

Thank you for your thoughtful post Aphrodite-Ohki! I see now that my thread title was not recieved with the levity I assumed it would. If I ever dare making a thread again I will keep this in mind. My intention was to ease the burden of the support team by seeking an answer here first if possible. I consulted many long threads and though I confess I did not read them all, some titles were misleading (a Mac issue rather than PC for example or a librarypath problem etc). I also see some of the titles were not as amiable as one would prefer. In no way was I comparing anyone with EA support, I am not heartless and in no way was this meant as a provocation. I only mentioned my history of using the program was about the usual smoothish transitions as the program was sold to different owners. I have no virtues, I have nothing to signal. I expect no more from the statement than "It all went smoothly for years, now this is different". I am not trying to incriminate anyone. These complainers must have been ferocious and unrelenting but I was not doing that. I thought some young people would see it, know the language and respond, honest. My condolences on the ADHD. I congratulate your efforts, achievements and staying power in the face of an adverse and largely ignorant humanity. I thought my AS condition was openly displayed in the way my posts are constructed, though I am high functioning, I am not well socialized nor ignorant of my shortcomings. I had difficulty with taking a snapshot of the UI for a while (I am not the only one that uses this computer) and I posted it when I could - I ignored no-one's assistance consciously. I know I should hold my tongue when provoked regardless of the circumstances but it was late, I had been frustrated by this program for days and my tone may have been a shade dark when first posted. My apologies to all offended. please, never attend a gamer forum - you will die from the turbulence common there. Regardless, thank you for your post. I wish the transfer of ownership a smooth transition and the forum community the best of luck with the next noob. I'm off to fill in a form

Thank you for your thoughtful post Aphrodite-Ohki! I see now that my thread title was not recieved with the levity I assumed it would. If I ever dare making a thread again I will keep this in mind.

We're usually good with humor here, but you'll see, the moment is a touchy one :)

My intention was to ease the burden of the support team by seeking an answer here first if possible.

And that's appreciated by the support team I'm sure - that's why we users have been attempting to help when we can!

In no way was I comparing anyone with EA support, I am not heartless and in no way was this meant as a provocation.

Oh, I know, I only mentioned EA as a comparison - that buying a program with every new version that comes for it doesn't grant a user special treatment.

I only mentioned my history of using the program was about the usual smoothish transitions as the program was sold to different owners. I have no virtues, I have nothing to signal. I expect no more from the statement than "It all went smoothly for years, now this is different".

Smith Micro had gotten rid of most of Poser's developers some years ago - I don't think Bondware was able to bring all of them back into the fold. So I imagine that most of the people working on this new version don't know a lot of its kinks and quirks, and from what I'm told, there are a lot of those, as Poser is still running with a very old core.

I am not trying to incriminate anyone. These complainers must have been ferocious and unrelenting but I was not doing that. I thought some young people would see it, know the language and respond, honest.

You were not doing that, I know - but as we've mentioned, it's been a rocky few days around here and we're tired, and in fight-or-flight mode. And on being young: I've at one point been considered the baby of the community, and I'm now 34 - you'll find that a lot of the active community of Poser is made of older people :)

My condolences on the ADHD. I congratulate your efforts, achievements and staying power in the face of an adverse and largely ignorant humanity.

No need for condolences - it's just a thing I have. It's annoying at times, but most times it's just there and I gotta work around it. It's been easier after the diagnose, because now I know it's no use trying to force myself to focus on the task at hand, my brain doesn't work like that, so I've been more productive now that I can just walk away and grab something to eat every time my mind wanders. But yes, society can be brutal against people who are neurodivergent, trying to force us to just fit the box instead of allowing each of us to just do things the way we can.

I thought my AS condition was openly displayed in the way my posts are constructed, though I am high functioning, I am not well socialized nor ignorant of my shortcomings.

It's not easy to spot, specially through text. If we were in front of you, we might have noticed some signs. At least those of us who know what to look for.

I know I should hold my tongue when provoked regardless of the circumstances but it was late, I had been frustrated by this program for days and my tone may have been a shade dark when first posted.

We've all been frustrated, that's why I asked everyone to take a breather and start this over! That's quite alright.

My apologies to all offended. please, never attend a gamer forum - you will die from the turbulence common there. Regardless, thank you for your post. I wish the transfer of ownership a smooth transition and the forum community the best of luck with the next noob. I'm off to fill in a form

I've actually been gaming since... forever, but gamer forums are one of the main reasons why I don't like calling myself a gamer. I guess I'm too old to find all that cursing and complaining and offense funny. But then again, I already didn't like it when I was a teen, so I guess it's just not my thing.

Now, back to your problem: If I were in the same situation as you are, I'd just set up my own user interface instead of waiting for support.

If you want to do it, here are some tips:

Every tool tab has a tiny triangle button with some interface options:

image.png

If a tool tab is set to docked, it'll try to tuck itself to your interface. If set to floating, it'll keep floating above your window without tucking itself to the interface. If you disable Drag-Docking in it, it won't be dragged and moved by your mouse when you click it, so you can avoid changing your interface by accident. You can use these to configure your Poser workspace.

Every tool tab that might be closed can be found here...

image.png

So you can open the tool tabs you want, place them where you want them in the interface, and then disable drag-docking when they're where you want them.

All the divisions between a tab/window and the other can be resized when you mouseover the split between them.

Using all of that, you can set your interface panels yourself, and then you can go to Edit>Preferences and, in the Interface tab, set the Launch Behavior to "Launch to previous state", so that Poser will load like that every time you open it.

As a suggestion/idea, here's what my interface looks like:

image.png

Some people will have it differently, depending on what they use more - a lot of people use the Hierarchy Editor a lot, or the Python Scripts panel, etc. Or use less space for the Library so more things can fit the screen. And so on.

Aaaand I'm a dumb who forgot the first post - I went back to it and was reminded that Poser is not ALLOWING you to change your panels. Sorry. I'd delete my post above, but it timed out and won't let me delete it anymore.

Thank you Gate, Unfortunately the zipfile doesn't have the resolution for my screen and I am grateful for your efforts. I'll be lodging a ticket as soon as I clear up a form issue. The upgrade issue seems a sensitive topic with many of those that wish to help novices, I hope this is only temporary and that as time passes, the user community will become settled. When a game has changes to a multiplayer map, the cursing and remonstrations persist for weeks, sometimes months. I have never had this much trouble to shoot on any of the other updates/upgrades to Poser I have bought in the past. Most support services want the novice to consult with gregarious members of the community forums before lodging a support ticket. Seeing as how I have had difficulty expressing myself in the forum, I dread trying to describe the problem on the ticket request. Regardless, Thank you for taking time with a crooked pin.

Hmm my screen resolution is 1920x1080 and even if the Prefs do not contain such a resolution it works fine the ones I zipped are the ones that came out in 2015 so if these do not work then it sure might be another issue. Did you keep copy of your old activation in case that you would want to try to make a roll Back .... There is a Possibility to runn Poser 11.1 without having to worry that it calls home so in worst case you could use 11.1 until the issues are fixed.

It might even work just like that using the latest Poser Update that SM Provided it would make Poser back to 11.1 you would just need to block the call home either with a Firewall or in your Host file

"Boy I'd get a big Spazz if it happen to me" the main reason why I still runn 11.1

Aww man, the OP turned out to be a decent individual just when I was ready to poke a tiger with a stick.

To the Op : How are you doing? Did you get your issues resolved without a ticket? By the way. My screen resolution is 1280x720. Screen Width: 1280 pixels / Screen Height: 720 pixels. Works fine though my UI interface is at 1.5.

BlackBonner, Thank you, I really mean it. I didn't realize the op was so potent. I am not a lawyer nor a priest. If the sensitive of this forum are easily hurt perhaps someone could make a sticky post about it in the forum. I appreciate the tip about the graphics card. I shall obtain new drivers immediately.

factory_settings.png

I have the same problem. I use a MacOS High Sierra version 10.13.4 I upgrade from Poser pro 11

I have try 'the lunch of factory stats but it changed nothing. So what can I try?

The floating window doesn't work well. In fact, nothing work like it is supposed to. the window document size is 2552 by 128 and cannot be changed by hand.

Problem resolve. In the preference the language 'francais' was set up so I changed it to english. Close poser 11 and restart. And everything seem to be fine. Thank you.

Two things:

  1. That's exactly the way my interface looks. You stole that layout from me. You punk kids, these days... :D

  2. That top. Super cute. What is it?

  3. Three. Three things

  4. Your stuff is starting to expand in my runtime. Can I ask you to make less stuff? Every time I turn around, it seems like there's another "must have" Afrodite-Ohki product. Paypal's servers can only take so much of this.

To contrast (just because I'ma contrary sort of person), this has actually been my smoothest Poser upgrade. In fact, it went so smoothly, I had to open "About Poser" just to check version and see the new Bondware (c)! It just plain worked. I'm almost scared to use it for fear that it'll explode or something :D

I'm amazed they could even compile the beast, let along modify the code without destroying the entire thing. Taking over someone else's code is brutal under the best circumstances, let alone code this complex, with its decades of cruft. Seriously impressive! This gives me a lot of confidence in the new team. Hive fives, back slaps, and thumbs up all around. Looking forward to 12.0 :p

Now that the OP has calmed down a little I do think I can help.

First, I have had this happen with a failing mouse AND with a failing graphics card. I had 2 monitors on my system and lost the graphics card, leaving all my parameters and libraries off on a 2nd monitor I could no longer use (the emergency card only supported one monitor). The only thing that brought them back to the single monitor was setting the system to Launch to Factory Settings.

The 2nd circumstance was with a failing mouse. I dragged the preview screen above the menu in error and had a heck of a time getting it positioned correctly again.

First, using the arrow on the right of the preview screen, set it to Floating.

Now, you should have it floating somewhere on your screen, and you can drag it where it should be (in all that blank space below where it is now). Keep a tight grip on the mouse, hold the left mouse button down and drag the preview screen. When it gets to a place where you can safely drop it, that section of the screen will become highlighted. (On my screen it changes to a blueish grey color). You can release the mouse button when you see the highlight and your preview screen should be where you need it.

Once you get that accomplished, we can see what needs to be done with the parameters menu and library.
