Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 02 2:22 am)
And does anybody remember a replacement file for the CONSTRUCT and also the file that changes the face in the Mat Room to a well-remembered ball or sphere?

That will make it like Poser 8 scene without the background?

Yep. I've made my own panoramic skies and tiling ground textures which are in a number of my products at Hivewire.
Now, IIRC the Construct is mapped to take 4:1 images on the Background mat zone, so you can crop the sky from any equirectangular 2:1 panoramic image, add it to that zone and it'll render ok. 8k would be the absolute minimum resolution I'd recommend though. Stick tiling textures on the Ground mat zone, add an infinite light with 0.5 shadow blur, fill the scene with props and Superfly will deliver good results.

Pinging the thread for knowledge. Now if someone could translate the above. It's filled with great info but not for the slowest horse in the race. Is there a way for Poser to easily do panoramic shots?

I don't know of a way to set up skies in Poser and get panoramic renders of them.
I use Vue Infinite 2014.7 to make the seamless panoramic atmosphere renders.

Only one that changes it to a plane:
MatRoomPreview OBJ Replacement
Replace your poser 11 Mat Room Preview superfly Head with a flat plane

and a script to switch between
matroom project - Quick switch https://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/quickswitch/82333
Okay, structure, first, thanks for the two freebie files. the first one is what I was looking for. The second one with the 2 preferred states, I'm confused. Do I install it to the runtime in the program file folders or can it be in another runtime elsewhere where I got my scenes file located?

I've uploaded a set of 64 sky hemispherical sky panoramas to freestuff (approval pending). MT5s are provided to make them Superfly lightcasters.

Material sampler for the P11 construct has some ground textures (and a "haze ring" prop to conceal the hard UV seam between ground and sky).
Some of my ground materials employ a user-drawn map to control material effects; here such a map controls where lava flows:
I use Genetica 4.0 Studio to make asymmetrical seamless tiles from photos I take of my yard, the river bottoms, etc. seach checks runtime//textures//seachnasaigh//Genetica tiles : 886 tiles.
I often use a "scramble" mixture of two similar -but distinct- tiles to cover a large area so as to avoid an obvious repetition pattern.

Thank you for sharing these beautiful backgrounds and tiles.
One thing about the construct: For some perverse reason in default load of the Construct the u=1.0-u=0.0 seam is right in front of the camera. Yes of course in most cases the textures line up at the seam, but why take the trouble. Unless you are using a backdrop and use the costruct textures for light and reflections only, best turn the construct 180 degrees around y-axis so that seam goes where it is least likely to cause concern. .

Yeah, I noticed that. The sky panoramas in both of my packs are seamless, so it won't be noticeable, but for some photo-based textures it will be.
For anyone wondering what to do if the sun/moon is right where they want it, but they want to spin the construct to get the seam off-camera, just enter a value between 0-1 in U_Offset of the image map node for the sky panorama. For example, U_Offset at 0.5 will spin the sky around 180' - a half turn.

Well, the material sampler for the P11 construct has these ground textures:
Maybe I'll make some ground textures after my current project is finished. I mostly concentrated on sky panoramas because I have the networked rendering muscle to generate them, whereas few of us hobbyists would be able to do so.

Thank you very much for the information. I didn't even know the Material Sampler existed. Now, should I put that into the Poser 11 Content Folder that I downloaded when I bought Poser from Smith Micro? Or, should I put it into the Poser 11 Applications/Runtime folder that I got when I downloaded Poser 11.2 from Renderosity? Or, does it matter? I read that only the Python files should be in the new Poser 11.2 folder. Is that true? Oh, yes, and seachnasaigh, thank you for all of your dedicated work. Will you let us know when the new content you uploaded to free stuff is approved and ready for downloading? Sorry for all the questions.
Don't put them into the program files... runtime! Windows' User Account Control will protect the program files folder by diverting stuff you try to add into the virtual store folder.
You can put new content into the default runtime within the public documents folder, or any other extra runtime you have created.

Well, I'm on a Macintosh, not Windows. The Poser 11 folder I got when I bought Poser 11 from** SmithMicro** is in users/Shared. Can I put the materials, props, and geometries in there? I tried adding the folders as a "runtime" folder. I was able to add the runtime to Poser 11.2, but when I open it, it shows as "empty." All the files are there, but Poser 11.2, shows as "empty."
Well, I've added runtimes to Poser before, different versions. I imported runtimes to the Poser 11.2 Renderosity version. I'll try to post 2 screenshots, one showing the contents of the runtime with the Construct elements seachnasaigh made. I was able to add that as a runtime to Poser 11.2. But, the second screenshot shows that when I try to open that in Poser 11.2, it shows up as "empty."
So, I don't know how to add this to Poser. The Poser 11 Content that shows in the second screen shot is in users/Shared (Macintosh) because that's where the installer put it when I bought Poser 11 from Smith Micro. Now, maybe I could add all of these Construct elements to that folder, but there are things in Materials, things in Props, etc. I'd rather have this added as a separate runtime because it's easier for me to see what's in these Construct elements, instead of having to remember, "Oh, yes, check in Props." You can also see that there are folders such as camera and character that are indeed empty. Could that be what's throwing Poser off? But without all these folders, Poser might not recognize this as a runtime folder. As another point, I have not installed any of the new items that came with Poser 11.2, the Renderosity version. I deliberately wanted to go slowly on this one. If there is something that I do want to install, I'd probably want to put it into its own runtime. Or, maybe, as an example, the HiveWire items in its own runtime.
Under which category in the library are you checking? I just downloaded and examined the file and there are only 2 major folders that should show all the internal files, materials and props. The associated files linked to those should be geometries and textures. The absence of the other library essential folders will not affect how Poser interprets the files. IIRC, Poser will automatically add the other folders if they are missing.

I downloaded the ghostship2 texture set at https://www.sharecg.com/v/86231/related/7/Material-and-Shader/Poser-11-Superfly-Uber-Shader-version-3 The mats are just in a folder by themselves. If I were to put them into a runtime folder, do they go into Materials? Do they go into textures?
Yes those should go into your Mats Library.

Hi, ghostship2: And, is your Shader included in that set? Or, do I have to download the shader separately?
it's all there. I have a few other things on ShareCG like V4 eye shaders and those are separate downloads.

Nope, something's wrong. I can't get any of ghostship2's shaders to apply. I have gotten the other things mentioned in this thread to apply. Maybe it's something I'm doing incorrectly. I've also bought the SuperFly Shaders for Poser 11 by Vince Bagna, and I've been able to apply those. So, if I'm doing something wrong in the case of ghostship2's offerings, I'd like to figure out what that is.

Not sure what to tell you. They all work on my system and nobody has ever complained that they did not. It's been a couple of days since you posted, is it working now?

Looks great. What about the ground plane of the Construct? Any files to make it look like grass, a desert, a lake surrounded by grass, etc.?
What might be a better idea, but a little more creatively involved would be to use the Hair Room to grow some tall grass on the Construct ground. Vilters even posted an example once of how you can push the grass aside as you walk through it in the old Smith Micro forum. I'll see it I can find it.
Okay, found the thread and linked to it. And it was using a Cloth plane as the ground, not the Construct.

OK, I got the sand shader to work on the Ground. Thank you very much, ghostship2.

Has anyone created mats for The Construct to simulate scenes and backgrounds? I can't find anything new in this latest version of Poser.
