Pretty sure I downloaded the updated version, but my copy of Poser refuses to boot because it can't locate the license server.

Might this have something to do with the download page being down? A resolution to this would be very helpful, as I have deadlines to hit.

brucebrehm ( ) posted Sat, 21 December 2019 at 4:55 PM

Having the same issue... Having been away from app for several months, and even though I had previously downloaded but not installed the 11.2 Bondware version... today I attempted to load 11.1 version on OSX... Was hit with Required to Register page to Smith Micro... SO, I installed the new bondware 11.2 version SW. But when the Register with "Bondware" screen appears and you click continue, you are sent to a blank page...

Hello, folks. Not working, and the download page is not accessible.

A couple of other folks posted the site is down, but I just tried it, and it's loading up fine, so there must've been a hiccup on the server when you first tried.

Out of curiosity, will we ever be able to open this program without it calling home? The server blip was a minor inconvenience, but if it went seriously down, I imagine a lot of people would be pretty upset with things.

It looks as though the feature is here to stay according to the comments coming out of Rendo. Server blips are just one of the problems of this sort of protection as is all the grief that has caused by the change of ownership, all of which was predicted by many users when SM sneaked the feature into Game Dev.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

So is the update issued on December 2 still a .2xx build? I think I heard it mentioned that this was a .3 build. Is it too much to hope that the phone-home thing has been taken out? Jenn? Anyone? Honestly, you folks have to know how annoying it is to the user base, so why are you keeping it in there?

Renderosity holds its SM Poser 11 licensees hostage. I already own a license to use it, i.e. PP11, without any more requirements. Now, Bondware forces me to "upgrade" the software, ostensibly to maintain the 'license structure', but without any legal consideration to do so. However, it is not technically necessary, in the slightest degree, that any licensee do so to maintain full use of their licensed copy; Bondware/Renderosity could very easily have responded to any legitimate licensee server request though their own license server. It's hard-coded into the SM software and all Renderosity/Bondware had to do is redirect those license requests to their own license server.

The Renderosity/Bondware 'patch' has immediately rendered PP11 useless; now, it will function no more, even though it functioned quite well when last I loaded it. I can't go back to my last functioning copy to restore good order.

Renderosity may not hold my license hostage until I do what they demand. I demand a full refund, paid to me in cash, of the fee I paid to SM for full use of the software.

Good Day,

Getting back to my desktop and laptop after months. Had done the update, downloaded and installed the new content(also requiring valid registration), and registered my Poser Pro 2014/11. Successfully used Poser Pro 11/2014(whatever version its on) for a month or so on both desktop and laptop.

Today, however, the laptop version of Poser Pro refuses to boot, alerting the message1.jpg

I then go ahead and try to register(again, for some reason) and am met with the following warning, which, after providing correct details for registration, am sent the message that the maximum number of activations has been exceeded. I only have Poser Pro active on a laptop and a desktop, both of which have had activated copies of Poser Pro and worked fine after that September forced update. My desktop and laptop are not shared with anyone.

**How can I get Poser Pro to run again?** I am NOT purchasing another copy; I already own this software.

ok... So I just want to get my poser 11 license updated (AGAIN! like every year). I have already created the Activation Request file (which is on a PC w/o internet access) and not to sure where to go from here!

Do I still need to re-install Poser Pro 11?

Thanks

Go to Posersoftware.com and under support file a help ticket. I don't believe the newest version (11.2) supports offline activation in the way that 11.1 and earlier did. In the help ticket explain what you want to do and they should be able to set you up with an extended activation period.

I kind of confused. I already updated my poser software back in December 2019 when i was told to and everything has been working great and still is . but lately I keep getting this pop up every time i start poser up stating i have a new update to my poser pro 11.2 and when i click the link it sends me to a pages that says new updates 01-18-2020 and it wants me to down load a down grades version of poser from poser pro 11.2 to poser basic 11.2.. Haha Like WTF? So If you don't mind I'll just stick with my poser pro if the update is going to downgrade my poser pro version who needs it.. I posted screen shots to Verify everything I said . Any ideas why this is happening and how to stop that annoying pop-up that wants me to down grade my poser version.!

there is no longer a poser "basic" there is only poser pro - there is no longer a 32 bit poser, just 64 bit - I am not seeing the pop up you are referring to in any of your screenshots, however, you can go into preferences and turn off "check for updates" (which is probably the cause of your vexation )

Do I understand correctly that (1) my purchased Poser Pro 11 is now permanently non-functional and (2) if I want to use Poser 11.2, the computer has to be on-line?

structure ( ) posted Mon, 09 March 2020 at 5:05 PM

poser 11.2 ( soon 11.3 ) is the only working version of poser 11 - since Smith Micro closed their licence server.

the computer must be online unless you write to admin@renderosity.com and request an extended licence.

Thank you for your reply. & the good information, so it would be safe for download the update then without worry of being down graded? the popup comes when i start poser and i get a little box stating there is a update available but i used your suggestion and unclick that check up date thingy I rather check for the updates on my own time I never get vexxed But I have been taken advantage of before with other companies. So once bitten twice shy. Internet trust is earned not given.

Yes you can upgrade at your leisure of poser is still running for you. Be aware that if you are using a version of poser prior to 11.2 then at some point your poser will stop working.

Thanks Structure, I upgraded to Poser 11.2 back in Dec2019 when you guys sent the news letter out to do so. but this new update says it came out in Jan2020.. currently am in the middle of some projects and rather not chance a update messing up those projects until i am done. I thank you for your reply and the information, I'll do the update when I get finished with these projects. Have a nice day

I take it that I must be on-line to USE Poser 11.2 etc. I'm willing to bypass my security to download, install, and start it, but I'm not going to put my Windows boxes at risk continuously while working. Do I understand you correctly?

Are you sure? My understanding was that poser phones home every 21 days by default, and that between phone homes you can use it without being online. I just did a quick test by disconnecting one of my machines from the internet and starting up poser, and all worked fine. (I had used poser a bit earlier but had closed it although I didn't restart the machine)

yeah, there is a little leeway - but connecting every 21 days is a little much for some people, the extended licence grants up to a year.

Wow, I am glad I read this post. I was wanting to buy poser, but not now. I had way too many frustration with license crap like this. I vowed I will never buy software with these types of activations. Adobe, Corel and ZBrush ruined it for me (although zbrush has relaxed some, still, never again.) Thanks for the heads up.

BabaBozo ( ) posted Sat, 19 September 2020 at 7:30 AM

I keep wondering if Rendo understands the threat the "call home" feature represents to their Poser content business. You know, we aren't just renting the software, we're renting the content too. Not sure how much I want to invest in content that could all vanish forever at any moment without warning.

It's one thing if Rendo or some future owner decided to stop developing Poser. Poser in it's current form would still be useful for years to come. It's another thing if Rendo or some future owner decides to bail on Poser altogether, ie. including the license server. Then we'd have nothing.

These seem like reasonable concerns considering the competition Poser faces, and repeated claims on pretty much every forum regarding how "Poser is dead" and so on.

How about this? It should be possible to record the IP being used for each launch of Poser. If a particular license starts launching from many IPs then that license could be killed. If Poser was abandoned and there was no longer a license server, then at that point Poser would effectively be free.

The point here is, there should be no automatic kill switch built in to everyone's copy of Poser. Rendo could still manually kill a license that's been shared, but if Rendo abandons Poser then all the existing installs of Poser would continue to work.

It would be great if staff could comment further on this. Unless I can be assured that my copy of Poser will never die, it's hard to justify the purchase of very much content.

Incantus ( ) posted Wed, 21 October 2020 at 6:35 PM

really sad to see in what direction all this is going ! If this marketing strategy is kept up for the upcoming Poser Bondware version then it will get very silent.
