Wips of the hairy kind, but Superfly nonetheless ๐Ÿ˜ I love how good Superfly is at rendering all those hair strands. They don't slow it down.

I did not save the file after the render so I can't tell you which lights I used, but I can tell you they were Superfly specific lights because I always use SF lights.

I render CPU. These are my settings for every render:

Great lighting in the outdoor scenes Glitterati3D and the water is very realistic. Are you using EZDome?

In some of them, yes. Others I might use Flink's sky. I do, however, almost always enclose my renders in something MUCH smaller than the Construct to get light bounces around my subjects.

As for the water, in almost all cases of water I use Vince Banga's or Ghostship's water shaders for Superfly. If I'm adding things like Flink's Water FX or those rings around the dabbling duck (an object freebie from ShareCG) I use Vince Banga's shader.

Render looks good, I agree with Glitterati, maybe a different background would make the characters more prominent.

So what is the difference in lights from earlier versions and lights specifically for Superfly? I know Superfly utilizes light emitting props to create light by default, but is there any other difference?

Poser 11/ Superfly adds area lights which function like mesh lights. You'll get soft shadows with area lights. It's hard to describe but I'd say that depending how you use them they can look more realistic than the other Poser lights.

@Ironsoul That is awesome! @knyghtmare2021 I'm probably the wrong guy to ask about optimization. I use two GTX cards and run settings that get me good results. How you light the scene is going to play a big roll in how many samples you need to render a shot. A skydome with a JPG for lighting will render cleaner than using an HDR but the lighting will be homogeneous. I'll try to render an example.

here are two examples with same settings but the only thing changed is the image used on the skydome. The JPG renders 30 seconds faster AND has less noise but the lighting is very homogeneous and bland whereas the HDR takes longer, and needs a lot more samples to become noise free but has more dramatic highlights and shadows. My personal opinion would be to avoid using Superfly or any PBR renderer for comic reproduction. Especially if your goal is to speed things up.

You're going to have to change the lighting in the one with the white floor. The light is shining right down onto the floor wiping out the gloss completely. You've got blowout because of the position of your light. The one on the right looks like she's trying to skate on wet gravel. The expression on her face is just weird.

wolfmanjim ( ) posted Tue, 18 February 2020 at 7:52 PM
