Subject: La Femme Clone for Genesis 8?

emjay247 ( ) posted Wed, 18 August 2021 at 7:50 AM · edited Mon, 18 November 2024 at 10:20 PM

Has anyone created or is anyone working on a La Femme clone for Genesis 8 in Daz Studio?

I have been using the Victoria 4 and Dawn clones on G8F to convert free Genesis 1-8 clothing in DS to a T-pose fitted for those figures. The items geometry can then be exported from DS and imported and rigged to work in Poser.

A La Femme clone would be helpful for this same process and might entice some Daz users with previous vested interest in Genesis items to give Poser a try. A Lhomme clone for G8M would be the next logical extension.

Thanks for your knowledge advance!

Is there some form of tutorial explaining this process of conversion somewhere? I'd need to understand how it works to see if I could make such a tool.

I came across a tutorial @ ShareCG some time ago outlining the process using Dawn. However, Dawn is available in both DS and Poser forms while La Femme has no DS figure available. You would need to be able to import a fully functional La Femme figure to proceed with this process. I just tried looking for this tutorial and have not had any luck pinpointing where it's located. I have it buried somewhere on my computer or thumb drive, it's going to be tough finding it.

Out of curiosity, I did a google search for "How to make a clone for Genesis 8" and it lead me to some links on how to do it with V4. Others said the method worked all the way back to Aiko 3!

I imagine to do it, it would be best to start with Genesis because that actor is already in a T-pose.

I would then, possibly, import LaFemme1.obj into Daz Studio. Make a Genesis pose so it matches the joint centers of LaFemme.

Then I would export the posed Genesis as its own OBJ file, to see where It goes from there...

This is the method that I came across some time ago from 3dOutlaw creating a V4 Clone for Dawn. I checked on how feasible it is to bring La Femme into DAZStudio and it's quite easy, just import the Poser cr2 into DS. She's fully bendable and poseable. If you want to pose G8 from an A-pose to a T-pose, use this script I found on ShareCG:

Wow! I did not realize the La Femme CR2 would import into DS so easily... thanks for the links hborre, I'm going to check out that method as well.

Here's La Femme imported into DS with a Genesis pose applied. I can see that it's not perfect, but it's certainly not terrible. Very cool.

hborre ( ) posted Thu, 19 August 2021 at 5:22 PM

she will pose with the Poser presets. Unfortunately, you cannot apply the morphs directly from Poser.

RobZhena ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2021 at 4:10 PM

You can pre-pose most G8 clothes in DS to the T pose by selecting and bending the left shoulder and then picking Edit/Figure/Symmetry. Then export the obj.

emjay247 ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2021 at 4:49 PM

Here's what La Femme looks like imported into DS. Genesis G8F is posed to match the joint centers of LF. Probably, that pose should be saved somewhere. . Genesis-LF-Clone6.png

hborre ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2021 at 5:17 PM

That looks very promising.

emjay247 ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2021 at 10:48 AM

Indeed. At this point, an experienced 3d modeler could export the posed G8F as an OBJ and import it into the sculpting software of their choice and refine it to match the surfaces of La Femme.

Genesis-LF-Clone7.png

Then, they could export the aligned G8F mesh and use morph loader pro in DS to make a La Femme morph for a new Genesis 8 Female.

Genesis-LF-Clone8.png

An individual could then, possibly, load G8F garments to see how they fit the morph shape.

Genesis-LF-Clone9.png

emjay247 ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2021 at 11:23 AM

If DS had a morph brush, this refining could have taken place in that application.

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2021 at 11:37 AM

How true.

emjay247 ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2021 at 5:59 PM

Put some clothes on, G8F/La Femme!!

Genesis-LF-Clone10.png

You would likely see that the Rocker outfit for Genesis 8 fits better in the torso area of this La Femme morph. The shoes and arm wear would still need some translation and rotation to fit the morph properly.

emjay247 ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2021 at 6:08 PM

Another thought might be to pose the La Femme figure to the A-pose of Genesis 8 Female. This time maybe in Poser? Better export a base resolution OBJ of G8F first.

Genesis-LF-Clone11.png

It might work to Import the base resolution Genesis 8 Female OBJ into Poser, then load the La Femme figure from the library and pose it to match the joint centers of G8F?

emjay247 ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2021 at 6:10 PM

It might be a good idea to save this La Femme A-pose somewhere for later use.

emjay247 ( ) posted Mon, 23 August 2021 at 11:04 AM

In Poser, a user can use the Morph Brush to create a new morph for the OBJ geometry (shapes). This includes any exported shapes from DS.

The user could name that morph for the G8F shape something like "La Femme-Clone", for example. They would then use the morph brush settings of tighten and loosen to create a shape of the target goal:"LaFemme"

Genesis-LF-Clone12.png

A more experienced 3d modeler might want to do this in an outside application of their preference.

emjay247 ( ) posted Mon, 23 August 2021 at 8:58 PM

It is feasible that a user could then export this new G8F with the La Femme body shape morph as an OBJ from Poser (or another application) while keeping in mind the difference in scaling between the software. For example:

DS>Poser = 0.410105% Poser>DS = 243.84%

In DS, one could then load and select G8F and use Morph Loader Pro to apply the new La Femme clone morph. It might look something like this. Genesis-LF-Clone13.png

emjay247 ( ) posted Tue, 24 August 2021 at 4:04 PM

Theoretically, this "A-pose" G8F with a La Femme body morph would be able to wear Victoria 4, Michael 4, Genesis 1, 2, 3 and 8 garments with the use of the DS auto-fit feature. Genesis-LF-Clone14.png

The "Genesis 8 Basic Wear" fit to a La Femme Body Morph for Genesis 8 Female might appear like this.

RobZhena ( ) posted Tue, 24 August 2021 at 6:47 PM

This might be very well done! Bravo, if it were.

emjay247 ( ) posted Wed, 25 August 2021 at 8:49 AM

One can easily see that a tool like this would feasibly be a freebie that benefits the Poser community.

hborre ( ) posted Wed, 25 August 2021 at 6:44 PM

That is a conceivable and novel idea. Especially for those that thought that La Femme could not be ported over to DS.

primorge ( ) posted Wed, 25 August 2021 at 9:42 PM

Not to be a spoil sport but shouldn't this be in the DS forum? I'm not seeing anything useful as a Poser user. Unless you can explain why this might be useful to a Poser user. Looks like stuff out of DS to me. Fitting Genesis clothes to La Femme maybe? Dunno... hypothetically, that is.

emjay247 ( ) posted Wed, 25 August 2021 at 9:57 PM

I would imagine that both programs are needed for this process.

Also, I haven't read many complaints from Daz users who are unable to work with Poser stuff, but I have heard from many Poser users complaining about not being able to use Daz stuff...especially now that Poser 12 will be moving forward without a DSON importer.

Personally, I have recently purchased the SY Victoria 4 and Michael 4 body clones for Genesis 8 over at Daz for this exact purpose. To me It would seem prudent to have a way to use these assets outside of DS on a Poser native/flagship figure... all the rigging tools are waiting in Poser.

hborre ( ) posted Wed, 25 August 2021 at 10:20 PM

As a reminder, this is perhaps the first time that a workable La Femme has been imported into DS straight from Poser. I haven't seen anyone work a render on her or, at least, attempted to use her in DS. I do take some of the credit for steering the OP in this direction by actually importing LF into DS. I lit the flame, emjay247 stoked the fire.

primorge ( ) posted Wed, 25 August 2021 at 10:45 PM

I have enough Poser stuff actually. Things I don't have, characters, creatures, or clothes that I want I'll make myself or convert from another Poser native. I'm pretty handy with those kinds of things. I'll admit that some of those Genesis duds are pretty spiffy, so... if that's where this is leading well then my La Femme salutes you. Apologies for the interruption.

Exporting OBJ shapes of the La Femme fitted clothes, hair and accessories from DS would be pretty easy. There is a Poser preset!

If the users DAZ library is linked to their Poser library, it's even better because the textures for the OBJs will be easier to locate on import.

Genesis-LF-Clone16b.png

Here is what the imported OBJs might look like rendered in Superfly with some tweaking of the transparency maps in the material room.

emjay247 ( ) posted Sat, 28 August 2021 at 5:29 PM

Genesis 3 outfits would probably transfer over to the Genesis 8 - La Femme clone shape easily due to their shared "A pose".

emjay247 ( ) posted Mon, 30 August 2021 at 8:36 PM

Genesis 3 undergarments and hair might look something like this auto-fitted to a La Femme body morph/clone shape for G8F in DS and ready for export into Poser. These items and textures come with Genesis 3, at one time for free, provided from Daz3d.
Genesis-LF-Clone19.png I imagine thay would look pretty good and need very little adjustment to the La Femme shape.

Nothing hard about making clones, I've been doing it since DS4.0, you just need a functioning brain and to be willing to use it.

I'm also the person that did the first V4 to Dawn clone and showed it off over at Hivewire, but as we weren't allowed to distibute DAZ shapes, it meant I couldn't give it to anyone, so I created a tutorial over at Hivewire on how to do it, even included a pose to make it easier for everyone else.

3doutlaw copied it (with my permission), which was probably just as well as Hivewire got hacked and lost everything on the forums.
