Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 31 9:45 am)
Maybe It is the flash Player, Poser needed the player for the content library. (I do not know how it was for “Poser 5”) My first Poser was “Poser 6”. For my Poser 14 the solution was the link below.
How to fix your Runtime now that Adobe Flash has reached end of life - Poser Software
By the way, Studio isn’t as complex as it shows in the first view, it’s pretty straight forward like poser but you need a few days to adapt to the interface.
IIRC, Adobe Flash Player wasn't introduced until later, when the Pro versions were released. There's possible compatibility issues between software and hardware which prevent Poser 5 from running properly. You could set Windows 11 compatibility to an earlier version (Windows 7); however, I am not aware of anyone running Poser any earlier than version 7.
Can't remember the earliest version that used Flash for the library. Either Poser 7 or 8 if I recall.
But take note ... the content you use in Poser will also be a factor in the version you install.
Poser 5 was released in 2003. It's the first version that used Firefly. About the only content that it will support is that furnished with Poser itself, or with Victoria 4 generation from DAZ.
Poser 7, also mentioned above, was released in 2006. It supports the G2 figures released by eFrontier, like Simon, Sydney, James, Jessi, etc (NOT the Genesis 2 figures relerased by DAZ). So as far as DAZ content goes you're still limited to V4 and that generation.
Poser 9 and Poser Pro 2012 are the first versions that support weight mapped figures as well as subsurface scattering. Weight mapping was not as robust as in later versions.
Poser 10 and Pro 2014 first versions to have the fitting room which allows you to convert clothing from one figure to another.
Poser 11.3 and later are owned by Bondware.
What do you have for a video card? That would factor in to which version you can use as well.
I still have Poser 5 on my computer. I didn't even realize it until today. I wasn't able to get it to work even with different. I only have Windows 10 but I doubt 11 is more backwards than 10.
Poser 8 was the first with Flash. I also still had Poser 7 on my machine until recently.

I use Poser 13 and win 10
Hello and thank you all for your answers. I will try to use your advice and then I will write you the results. First I wanted to try to explain the reason for Poser 5. The reason is simple: it is a software that I own and that I have used; it is not as complex as DAZStudio allowing me to start creating images again without having to learn tons of tutorials or manuals. I don't have other newer versions of the Poser and I don't know if it's possible to download them and if they are free or paid and what their cost can be.

I've tried to install Poser 5 in a virtualbox with Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 as an operating system and I got the same error.

The only versions of Poser available now are Poser 13 and Poser 13 upgrade (which only upgrades from 11 or 12)
There are no free versions of Poser.
I don't know for Poser5 but I had tested this on my old PC (died 2 months ago): an installed Poser6 folder can be copied and run from any new location.

Maybe it helps to show us a screenshot of your error at the start? Or is it just me who cant figure out which driver should be ment?
Recently I installed Poser 7 on a Virtual Box with Vista to test if I can use my old scripts again :) Didnt test it yet because I am not at home, but I really hope it will work :)
That would be weird, as Windows does not need Python. Is it possible that the error is caused by the python?

This is truly strange I tried to install the Poser 4, of which I’ve the original discs. And ......... the program was installed without problems. Later in the morning I also try the Pro Pack version. If this too should be installed without problems means that the problem is caused by something in the Poser 5 only or in him install. Or not??

Last information: I've been told that VirtualBox is not as good as it used to be, especially on Windows 11. In my case, I have a virtual instance of an old Ubuntu, running on Windows 11's own Hyper-V manager.
Mine was an attempt, I wanted to see if the problem could depend on the operating system. However, reflecting, the problem could be caused by something that the program tries to download from the network but, clearly, being too dated it cannot.
Searching on the internet I found these articles, the second one is in Italian but I think I also understand in English. Do you think this can really be the cause of the mistake?

Do you have the SR4 updater ?
In case you have it try Install Poser on another computer copy the Install to make it portable, uninstall. Now save the your portable on a place away from the Win Program folder run the update SR4 on the portable version this will correct your preferences if moved to another directory, else you need to do it manually.
but do not install Poser into the win program folders.
With Poser 5 you have to have the SR4 or else it won't work. SR4 removes the protection from Poser 5. If you have Poser 5 installed anywhere else on another machine it is really simple to go to that machine and copy the whole Poser folder onto a thumb drive and then move it to anywhere else. I have both Poser 5 and 6 on a thumb drive and can just plug it in and run the program form the folder with no problems.
Poser 5, 6, 7, 8, Poser Pro 9 (2012), 10 (2014), 11, 12, 13

Try installing it as Admin outside of the Program Files folders.... Then run it as Admin the first time.
Maybe I didn't understand well, but Windows 11 always forces me to install programs with administrator privileges.
UAC asking if you want to install something is not the same as running the installer as Admin.
Some things are easy to explain, other things are not........ <- Store -> <-Freebies->
Try using Compatibility Mode to install it (English only, sorry): https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001894.htm
You can go as far back as XP (or even further) if memory serves.

Hello, I'm writing to ask for your help. Some time ago I used two programs for my work: Poser 5 and Daz Studio. After many years I would like to start using again at least one of the two programs. I tried with the Daz Studio but it's really very complex and I'm not completely convinced of the final result. Having kept the old version of Poser 5 and I tried to install it on Windows 11. Unfortunately, at the star, it gives me a problem of driver not found and it doesn't start. I was really good with that software and being able to use it again would make me feel good. Can someone help me? Does anyone know how I can solve this problem. Thank you.
