I have to say that the problem with her shoulders is not just that they are wide. Look at the way the line from her underarm cuts almost through the shoulder. That needs to be fixed. Look in the mirror, your shoulders do not look like that. I own Dina, and both clothing packs. I like her, but the shoulders still need to be fixed. Marque
Heck, just give her a decent wardrobe and she'll be fine. :) I just don't understand why everyone has to try and make her "pretty" when she'd be so useful in so many "character" parts if she just had the right clothes. sigh My Dina Wish List: A plain shirtwaist dress (with collar and belt) A blouse that covers her belly button Dress slacks (the kind with a nice crease in them) Blazer or suit jacket A nice cocktail dress Formal gown A pair of sneakers/work shoes A pair of flats A pair of 1 - 2 inch pumps Make that wardrobe and I will actually buy it AND Dina. Kate
Okay. Not all of the items may appear in the same clothing package. I post announcements when I put up new stuff. There will be a pair of pumps, for example, in my flapper dress pack for Dina, which should be in the store soon. My corset pack for Dina when used with the skirts (which can morph to be poofed out like an antebellum dress) could work as a formal gown with the right textures on it.
Ok, here's my deal with Dina. I think she would be the perfect model for some background characters I have in mind - a tired, frumpy, waitress, a middle aged housekeeper and a blowzy hair dresser. The problem is, I can't use her in any of those roles because of her lack of wardrobe. I'm sure I could probably morph Vicky into those characters, but it would be a lot easier just to use Dina with an aged texture map. sigh Oh well, back to the drawing board. Y'all just go on back to trying to make Dina pretty and sexy and never mind those of us who would like to put her in something other than pinups and fantasy images. In the meantime, I'll go back to trying to "unpretty" vicky and posette. Kate the discouraged
Kate, Let me say it again. I am working on making more clothes for Dina. Any and all suggestions are welcome, and some of the ideas you've mentioned are already on the drawing board. These things take time, however. I try to maintain a high standard of quality, so I can't crank out a new garment every week. I try to make my clothes with lots of morphs, distortion-free UV mapping, inner and outer fabric layers, modeled-in details, etc. I also build in as much versatility as I can, so that one garment can often double as two or three, depending on how it's morphed, textured, and geometry-swapped. Anyway, another clothing pack for Dina (and Natalia) is in progress and should be available sometime next month.
I'll admit - the face is different and with the right texture can be believable. The shoulders still look wrong - the crease is too dramatic, the slope is awkward. The watermelons on her chest combined with the tiny hips don't help the realism. If the shoulders were fixed and the lower body thickened, then, yes, I'd say she was a real looking character. Dina has potential, but she still has a long ways to go.
Dina updates are being sent out a few at a time. We haven't got a module that will send an update email out to all purchasers of a product (that's on MY wishlist), so have to go through the list one at a time. We should get them all out within the week, though. Marque, the shoulder crease problem is a problem that is inherent in Poser figures. There's no way to fix it that I know of. Believe me, I have tried just about every joint parameter variation there is. You will notice that Posette and Vicki also have that problem. It's a compromise between a good shape of the upper arm and shoulder when it bends and a higher crease. It's easier to fix the crease in postwork than it is to fix the shape of the shoulders, so we compromised that way. Kate, if I knew how to model from scratch, I'd make you some clothes. Meanwhile, I just keep cracking the whip at Dan. :-) Heya, Paul. I haven't forgotten about you. ;-)
Heh. Dan, my gripe wasn't directed so much at you as it was at all the other modelers out there who are so busy trying to "fix" Dina's face that they don't hear us clamoring for more every day type clothing. I know you're working your hind end off on this stuff, I'm just trying to light a fire under the OTHER modelers who have Dina. Diane, if I knew how to model, I'd make me some clothes too g Kate
Thanks, Kate. I wish some other people would pick up the ball, too. I think it's a bit of a catch-22. People only want to make clothes for a model that's really popular, but the model won't get really popular unless people make stuff for it. Vendors might want to consider it, though. My Dina stuff has been selling better than any of my Vicki stuff, probably because there no competition. It's hard to get noticed in the glutted Vicki market. - Dan

Marque, Here's a render of Posette, Vicki2, Natalia, Dina and Cherry (I am showing her because I did some morphs on her that I think give her neck/shoulders a more natural line). All have their arms bent at 85, except Vicki, whose arms are at 82 because at 85 they go through her body. As you can see, all the figures have the problem of high arm creases, except Vicki. But Vicki's upper arms are curved unaturally in toward her body while her shoulders are sticking out. I guess I shouldn't have said Vicki has that problem. What I meant was, in order to fix that problem, she has the other distortion of curved upper arms and shoulders that stick out too far. While I agree that I have never seen anyone with arm creases that high, neither have I ever seen anyone whose upper arms curve in like that. Believe me, I've tried to find a joint parameter setting that solves both problems and haven't been able to come up with it yet. After MANY, MANY hours. Ask Dan. :-) In the end, Dan and I felt that the crease was more acceptable than the weirdly curved in upper arms. Purr, That pose with arms like that is deceptively simple looking. I've found that the hardest thing in Poser is to get hands up to the face like that. It's because it involves extreme bends which Poser just doesn't handle well. Try using the collars more in the pose. Do a little twist and move them forward. I've found you can move Dina's collars more than you are probably used to.
