Thats really a big difference and it turns out very well!!

Purr3D ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 7:06 AM

You should check your email. I got the updated cr2 earlier this week.

soulhuntre ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 8:45 AM

Really, really stunning work.

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 10:43 AM

I have to say that the problem with her shoulders is not just that they are wide. Look at the way the line from her underarm cuts almost through the shoulder. That needs to be fixed. Look in the mirror, your shoulders do not look like that. I own Dina, and both clothing packs. I like her, but the shoulders still need to be fixed. Marque

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 10:45 AM

Also, I didn't buy Dina to have another Vickie, I bought her because she is unique. Please, don't morph her into Vickie, fix her shoulders and she will be fine. Marque

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 12:48 PM

Heck, just give her a decent wardrobe and she'll be fine. :) I just don't understand why everyone has to try and make her "pretty" when she'd be so useful in so many "character" parts if she just had the right clothes. sigh My Dina Wish List: A plain shirtwaist dress (with collar and belt) A blouse that covers her belly button Dress slacks (the kind with a nice crease in them) Blazer or suit jacket A nice cocktail dress Formal gown A pair of sneakers/work shoes A pair of flats A pair of 1 - 2 inch pumps Make that wardrobe and I will actually buy it AND Dina. Kate

Working on it, Kate. ;)

dan - let us know when it's done so I can actually buy Dina.

dcort ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 3:39 PM

Okay. Not all of the items may appear in the same clothing package. I post announcements when I put up new stuff. There will be a pair of pumps, for example, in my flapper dress pack for Dina, which should be in the store soon. My corset pack for Dina when used with the skirts (which can morph to be poofed out like an antebellum dress) could work as a formal gown with the right textures on it.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 8:46 PM

Ok, here's my deal with Dina. I think she would be the perfect model for some background characters I have in mind - a tired, frumpy, waitress, a middle aged housekeeper and a blowzy hair dresser. The problem is, I can't use her in any of those roles because of her lack of wardrobe. I'm sure I could probably morph Vicky into those characters, but it would be a lot easier just to use Dina with an aged texture map. sigh Oh well, back to the drawing board. Y'all just go on back to trying to make Dina pretty and sexy and never mind those of us who would like to put her in something other than pinups and fantasy images. In the meantime, I'll go back to trying to "unpretty" vicky and posette. Kate the discouraged

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 8:54 PM

Thank you Kate!!!! That is why I bought her, because she looks like a woman who has been through a lot, but that would probably be a mentor to someone like Vicke...lol Marque

LaurieA ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 8:54 PM

Aw, poor Kate :). You can have my ugly demon/vampire face (if and when you buy Dina). She's ugly enough to stop an 8-day clock. But it sounds more like you want the tired housewife with a ton of kids and rollers in her hair look. Hmmm...I'll have to work on that ;). Laurie

dcort ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 9:25 PM

Kate, Let me say it again. I am working on making more clothes for Dina. Any and all suggestions are welcome, and some of the ideas you've mentioned are already on the drawing board. These things take time, however. I try to maintain a high standard of quality, so I can't crank out a new garment every week. I try to make my clothes with lots of morphs, distortion-free UV mapping, inner and outer fabric layers, modeled-in details, etc. I also build in as much versatility as I can, so that one garment can often double as two or three, depending on how it's morphed, textured, and geometry-swapped. Anyway, another clothing pack for Dina (and Natalia) is in progress and should be available sometime next month.

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 9:33 PM

You mean you don't stay up all night cranking out stuffage from your computer? I had this picture of you doing just that....I.V. of coffee going...hair all frazzled out...lol Marque

dcort ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 9:37 PM

Your image isn't too far off, Marque. :) And yes, the caffiene flow has to be maintained at a certain level. It's an essential part of the process.

I have read quite a bit about Dina's Shoulders. Joint fixing is only one option, the other is to scale the Collar sections down to 90 or so. The image left is Collar Xscale 90 the right is 100. Also remember to Drop the Collar section Down about 10-15. Pose all parts of the Arm. Same goes for the legs. Dina has a look to her that works well for me. Hope this helps some of you out there. Crescent ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 10:15 PM

I'll admit - the face is different and with the right texture can be believable. The shoulders still look wrong - the crease is too dramatic, the slope is awkward. The watermelons on her chest combined with the tiny hips don't help the realism. If the shoulders were fixed and the lower body thickened, then, yes, I'd say she was a real looking character. Dina has potential, but she still has a long ways to go.

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Thu, 29 November 2001 at 11:56 PM

Dina updates are being sent out a few at a time. We haven't got a module that will send an update email out to all purchasers of a product (that's on MY wishlist), so have to go through the list one at a time. We should get them all out within the week, though. Marque, the shoulder crease problem is a problem that is inherent in Poser figures. There's no way to fix it that I know of. Believe me, I have tried just about every joint parameter variation there is. You will notice that Posette and Vicki also have that problem. It's a compromise between a good shape of the upper arm and shoulder when it bends and a higher crease. It's easier to fix the crease in postwork than it is to fix the shape of the shoulders, so we compromised that way. Kate, if I knew how to model from scratch, I'd make you some clothes. Meanwhile, I just keep cracking the whip at Dan. :-) Heya, Paul. I haven't forgotten about you. ;-)

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Fri, 30 November 2001 at 1:23 PM

Heh. Dan, my gripe wasn't directed so much at you as it was at all the other modelers out there who are so busy trying to "fix" Dina's face that they don't hear us clamoring for more every day type clothing. I know you're working your hind end off on this stuff, I'm just trying to light a fire under the OTHER modelers who have Dina. Diane, if I knew how to model, I'd make me some clothes too g Kate

dcort ( ) posted Fri, 30 November 2001 at 2:13 PM

Thanks, Kate. I wish some other people would pick up the ball, too. I think it's a bit of a catch-22. People only want to make clothes for a model that's really popular, but the model won't get really popular unless people make stuff for it. Vendors might want to consider it, though. My Dina stuff has been selling better than any of my Vicki stuff, probably because there no competition. It's hard to get noticed in the glutted Vicki market. - Dan

What I said about the shoulders is true only of Dina...Vickie's shoulders do not do it. Here is the Dina picture from above

and here is one of Vickie

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 30 November 2001 at 3:04 PM

I'm not talking about the elbows, I'm talking about the fact that the shoulders look like they are thin on the top, more like a hinge than a shoulder. That is what I'm asking to be fixed. It does not look real, no human has shoulders that look like that. Marque

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 30 November 2001 at 3:07 PM

I guess I'm saying the armpits almost cut through to the top. It's ok if she is wearing something to cover the shoulder area, but anything that shows this defect will take away from the overall look. Not slamming Dina, I like her. Just pointing out what no one seems to acknowledge. Marque

I've noticed that too. I've been trying to do this pose for Dina and I just can't get her arms to do that. It looks like such a simple pose, yet I've been working on this at different angles for over a week. Nothing looks right. It's as if her arms are too short. They definitely don't bend correctly at the collar. credit to Vargas:

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 30 November 2001 at 6:47 PM

Since I use my characters in animations the postwork idea is out. So I will only use her if her shoulders are covered. I don't understand Diane why you say that the problem is in all poser characters, even Natalia doesn't have the shoulder problem. Marque

Purr3D ( ) posted Fri, 30 November 2001 at 7:03 PM

Posette does though. Her underarms are too high as well.

Marque, Here's a render of Posette, Vicki2, Natalia, Dina and Cherry (I am showing her because I did some morphs on her that I think give her neck/shoulders a more natural line). All have their arms bent at 85, except Vicki, whose arms are at 82 because at 85 they go through her body. As you can see, all the figures have the problem of high arm creases, except Vicki. But Vicki's upper arms are curved unaturally in toward her body while her shoulders are sticking out. I guess I shouldn't have said Vicki has that problem. What I meant was, in order to fix that problem, she has the other distortion of curved upper arms and shoulders that stick out too far. While I agree that I have never seen anyone with arm creases that high, neither have I ever seen anyone whose upper arms curve in like that. Believe me, I've tried to find a joint parameter setting that solves both problems and haven't been able to come up with it yet. After MANY, MANY hours. Ask Dan. :-) In the end, Dan and I felt that the crease was more acceptable than the weirdly curved in upper arms. Purr, That pose with arms like that is deceptively simple looking. I've found that the hardest thing in Poser is to get hands up to the face like that. It's because it involves extreme bends which Poser just doesn't handle well. Try using the collars more in the pose. Do a little twist and move them forward. I've found you can move Dina's collars more than you are probably used to. Diane

Purr3D ( ) posted Fri, 30 November 2001 at 10:58 PM

Been there, done that. It makes it look as though her collars are
made of silly putty >^^^~). Vicky poses can be modified for
her fairly easily though >^_^
