Subject: Anyone know what could be causing this,i.e.,holes in Poser figures

Tonight I fired up ProPack and loaded up Michael, noticed something odd, then loaded Victoria, Victoria 2, several different Zygote people, the horse, the dog, and other figures. All of them have this odd thing (pictured) where there are holes at the joints, i.e.,shoulders, hips, elbows, knees, etc. Never saw this before.

So I opened several old PeeZees, of which none have this. Then loaded into one of them one of the current figures, crashing that particular PeeZee.

So ran a lot of other different programs, i.e., Vue, Bryce 3, etc. No apparent abnormalities.

So anybody got any idea of this? Am about to reinstall, which I hope fixes it.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like the welds are being ignored in the CR2s. I'm assuming you're on a Mac - Pro pack on that OS is still a bit under done IMO. -Jeff

Well, before you reinstall, try going into the Runtime/Geometries folder. If you look for the .obj files for the models you're having trouble with, each .obj will have a corresponding .rsr in the same folder. Delete the .rsr's. That will force Poser to rebuild them, and does fix a lot of problems. But the image looks like it could be a different problem, I'm not sure. I ended up with an effect like that when I was creating my Duncan character: it happened when I kept making changes and resaving the .cr2. I could move the settings over manually to a "blank" cr2, resave and get rid of the gaps. But the first version, even though the morphs and settings were identical, ended up useless. I don't know what caused that. I guess a reinstall would fix it, though.

Reinstalled, same problem.

JeffH,
No Mac here. Win98 PIIi 933, 512, 32 MB Nvidia, etc., etc.

Don't know what happened. Just used Poser all day Saturday, fine as usual.

eirian, thought about that, at least in your first paragraph, but this is EVERY figure Will try a deleting a few of teh .rsr's, see what happens.

Starting to think I may have gotten a bug from somehere, though I like to think I'm protected, or perhaps moer likely a soft spot on the hard drive.

But life's an adventure, and hey, thanks.

Does this happen with Poser4.0 without the Pro Pack? Try that.

Folks, Deleting rsr's, then reloading figures has no effect either -- at least not the desired one. And it gets REALLY strange with different poses.

Looks like my day off today is already laid out for me. Sigh.

Been kind of a strange week the last few days anyway.

Your copy of poser is definately ignoring all OBJ welds in the CR2... Start from scratch and reinstall from Poser4.0 up..

Gee JeffH, I don't think I have Poser 4 still. That is, ProPack went over it. I could remove PP then (OUCH!) reinstall Poser 4 (will have to hunt down those updates, too) from the ground up. Wondering if I might have to reformat or replace my HD (OUCH! again) but I've everything backed up, a result of previous experience. Still, drastic as this seems, that would probably fix it, but sure would hate to still have the problem after all that. Thanks again.

I think we crossposted, JeffH. Gonna have to bite the bullet (now where did I put it?) I guess. Thanks again.

Do you have the ProPack update 3 installed? This is a known problem with the ProPack. It messes up the obj file and has some extra vt lines in the file that don't reference anything so you get the holes in the mesh. The updaters corrected this problem. Ed

ronknights ( ) posted Mon, 10 December 2001 at 7:38 AM

When you see this type of problem, the most obvious questions are: 1.) If you're using "the regular Poser," have you installed the update to 4.03?! 2.) If using the Poser Pro Pack, did you install the latest Service Pack? Until you can say yes to both questions, don't waste your time doing anything else.

By the way, if you handle any uninstalls or reinstalls correctly... you will still have your runtime folder. However, it may somehow be messed up since Poser ProPack handles some things differently....no rsrs, etc. You might consider backing up all your runtime folder.

I don't own ProPak, but I got the figure to do what yours is doing by turning off the Bend Body Parts function in the Display part on the top bar.

Maybe that's what's happening in yours.

Maybe the best answer is to go into Edit, General Preferences, and reset to factory state. This should get rid of any settings you may have accidentally messed up. You can always take it from there.

Launch to Factory State. Use Factory State.

Display->Bend Body Parts? i guess

Larry F ( ) posted Mon, 10 December 2001 at 2:40 PM

Everyone, thanks for all this great input. I did finally "fix(?)" it by resetting to factory state. Have had a preferred state set in ProPack since I got it months (a year?) ago and frankly never seem to have any of the problems I've seen mentioned around here.

I don't have the latest service pack updater - come to think of it I don't know if I ever got one - no problems to speak of over the course of time.

About the service packs, do I have to install them in order of release or can I just jump to the latest one and install that? Seems I read somewhere one needs to do the former.

Thanks again.

I just got Pro Pack and I believe the most recent updater does everything. Check the Curious Labs website for specific information.

You need to go to the Curious Labs site to get the PRo Pack Service Release. Go there now
