Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
You could probably save a pz3, move it to the pose Library and change the extension to pz2, and it would work. It would probably scrub your present scene and replace it. What you want is a pose file that does trans and rot on props? What I think we know: A pose file will not address a prop unless it is parented to a figure. If you set your props up parented to a figure, I think you could get position info to apply to each. The figure could be a simple one and invisible if you wish. I am not sure of the format, but you would probably have to type the file, but once you have done one, you could keep a copy open in your TE and type in different positions, save the file, then click on it and then the positions will be what you just typed. You may be able to extract the format from a pz3, if you have everything parented when you save it. You select your root figure and apply the pose and the prop children move?
Heya, thanks for the feedback. I will give the things suggested here a try but some it this is close to what I have already been doing so I am not overly hopeful at this point. I mostly posted to see if there was any general interest in doing this sort of thing. To me it would be a great time saver if the trans/rot settings etc. for all figures and props in a scene could be saved as a pose file. I will experiment with the pz3 more heavily as this sounds the closest to maybe getting what I am going for as it is the trans/rot info that is needed as much as just the body pose. Not sure what can be done with props. I have already experimented - with some success - at parenting my props to cr2 but I am seeking a more global solution. Thanks again.
The Create Pose File tool in CR2Edit will do this. You can save the body parts and their positions you want, so you don't have to include the ones that don't change. This tool was originally intended so that if you have the Perfect Pose for a set of legs or whatever and want to apply it without disturbing the rest of the figure's pose, you can. I never tried it on a complex PZ3, but in theory it should work for your purposes. Actually, isn't a figure just a central group with a lot of others parented to it? They do not have to touch or weld. If you set up your inanimate props as a figure, you should be able to directly save a pose for it? All a POS pose file is - three rot settings and three trans settings for every actor.
LOL! Jaagar you must have been a mind reader in a former life! I was just thinking what if I make my scene into a cr2 using the Hierarchy make figure command. I could then pose it frame by frame as I want without any probs! Importing the pz3 alone will not work unless it is an empty scene you are working with because all you do than is compound your existing scene with more props and figures and lights and cameras etc. With multiple frames this will screw everything up. If making a Cr2 out of the scene doesn't work. I think maybe hacking the pz3 for the tran and rot settings will. Thanks once more. Rob
Arrrrrrr! I just remembered - I don't think you can make multiple figures and props into a new prop. I know Mason came up with a way in Poser 3 to make figure and clothing combined figures but I think it was a manual hack and not something that can easily be done in Poser using the Hierarchy editor. Arrrrrr! Well I am going to give it a try anyhow, but I am not hopeful. :o(
I was thinking single figure, with the various props as actors. Then a POSpose would carry location info for every actor. Poser cannot know if a figure is supposed to be a human or a sidewalk with garbage cans and crates. A regular human figure can have external calls for groups, the male figures do. It could all be external calls - the CR2, and many different groups. But each group would be a unit, not a figure. Anything that you would want to move apart from the other parts, would need to be a group itself.
Yeah, I was just getting carried away. The single figure with the props would make posing props doable but the truth is none of this is something than can easily be done on the fly. By the time I hack a cr2 or make up figures out of props to use, etc., I can just as easily pull up the old pz3 and do a screen capture of the different dial settings for stuff that I can not setup with a pose. Any figure poses I save with props parented take care of the props so all I need is the trans/rot on the bodies so that when I load and pose the figures I can get the positioned where they should be in the scene. This is how I am doing it at present. This thread is just my being wishful...

Wouldn't it make sense to be able to apply a Pose and set all the figures and objects in the frame you are working on up the way you want them with a single click. It would help a lot when you are building animation and decide you want to move scenes around. It would be great if you could save it as a Pose and then load it into any frame you want via the Pose library. I mean, think about it, you already have the figures and objects loaded - they just need to get positioned differently from one scene to the next. For now I can juggle stuff around with the memorize/restore all command but there has got to be a better way. What I am doing now is of no help when the scene I want is in another Pz3 file. But if I could save the entire scene as a Pose file and then apply it... Does anyone out there understand what I am talking about? Surely, there is a way to hack the Pz3 and get all the transition info and save it as a Pose file. Better yet, maybe someone has/could come up with a utility program that will do this? Arrrrr!
