I've just browsed through the Poser gallery again. I found a few great entries from people who are new with Poser. My jaw dropped. You newbies are fantastic. You need to keep posting in the Gallery, and be sure to come here and make yourselves known. In my Not So Humble Opinion it is important to encourage every artist. The "newbies" are special people. It is easy to feel insecure, unsure, etc. It is easy to keep making mistakes and give up. Many of us can tell stories of how we struggled till someone helped us see the light, and get better. So once again, let's hear it for the newbies. Now stand up here, introduce yourselves and take a bow. Ron

thanks Ron your encouragement has been greatly appreciated, I deleted quite a few of my pics, as I felt they weren't "Good enough"...... it is easy to get discouraged. Then with many incredible images in my head, it is frustrating not being able to get it on the screen thanks again

Hey, guys, we've all done some "bad work." Would you believe I was blissfully sharing my work for weeks or months before someone informed me I hadn't even rendered them?! Gosh, some of my earlier work was terrible. I eventually yanked it from my gallery. If you have something, and are not terribly sure it's ready, why not just post it in this forum. You can say something like : "This is my latest picture, a WIP" That is an abbreviation for Work In Progress. That alerts us that you are looking for some constructive input. I may not recognize your names, but I know you're doing fine. Don't be afraid to utilize us as a support structure. If it would help you can always send me an Instant Message, and we can even talk about emailing each other. My life will be a bit hectic over the next few days, and I may not get back to you right away. But I'll always talk to you. And others will too. Ron

Question is... what constitutes a "newbie" ? Is a newbie someone who is new to Renderosity? New to a specific program? Or new to 3D graphics in general? By the first, I'm not exactly a newbie anymore... I joined in the summer sometime. By the second, I'm definitely not a newbie to Rhino or 3DS Max, and probably not for Poser. By the third, I'm definitely not a newbie. I've been playing with 3D graphics since a "toy" program on a Macintosh in about 1992.

This place really is incredible, there are so many people who give their time to help others. I am constantly amazed at the generosity and friendliness of this community. Thanks everyone. Baz

I think "newbie" is a term that anyone can choose to apply to themselves, or to accept proudly. Valandar, I stil have some of your wonderful Poser super hero characters. Your work is fabulous. I consider your one of "The Poser Masters." This is not an exclusive club. I posted this message for many reasons. 1.) I've run into some new people who posted a shy gallery submission, and were nervous about joining the rest of us for great communication and support. I remember spending a few Instant Messages with one person, and an effort to reassure him/her. I am absent-minded, and don't remember names. I hope that person has joined us! 2.) I see some absolutely fabulous Poser work, and the artist says "I'm new, I've only had Poser for a few weeks or months!" Wow. 3.) I remember what it was like a year ago when I barely knew what I was doing. I remember how invaluable it was to be in this forum, and get the help of people here. I wanted to give back by encouraging others to reach out, say proudly: "I'm a newbie, and glad to be here." Then the rest of us could say "It's nice to meet you!" I'm babbling a bit. I just had that tooth pulled. Now I need to go make myself some chicken soup! Take care, Ron

Please post, Gwydion, I'd love to see your work. I'm a newbie-- well, I had Poser just before Vickie came out and tried for a week and I was so awful I gave up. Trying to import into Bryce-- eeeew! Now I've been doing it again for a week-- so I guess I have 2 weeks experience all told. I couldn't have even tried to do anything without this forum. I read every message for two weeks while CL was sending me my replacement disks, learning about textures and eyebrows and conforming stuff. It made me feel ready. And thank you so much Ron for actually looking at and commenting on my gallery posts. It meant a lot. I love making these pictures. Believe me, I am incrediably glad to be here!

I did see the Poser 2 Bryce tutorial-- but I've already switched to Vue D'Esprit. I really Like trees! Havent' used it yet though, Poser renders have been fine since the backdrop tools, both Nerds and Rundna's. I was lousy in Bryce. Just another shiny sphere maker.

Lol, I did that at first too. :-) I've had Poser for a while and Bryce now for several months but I've been a member for a long time. I'm only just beginning to understand Poser and delve into the textures to create my own. Pretty soon I should have the guts to post a render. :-)

Thanks for our newbie recognition ron, I fooled with Poser for weeks and achieved zilch! Discovered Renderosity and this forum a fortnight ago while on holidays. Have been addicted since, each morning I hit this site first to see what's new. I design scrollsaw patterns with CorelDRAW and got into Poser only to produce silhouette poses, ha! LOL!, very sidetracked with all the inspiration here. This community shares its techniques, advice and creations willingly with newbies, without putting us down. Thank YOU all for jumping in here. I have some confessions to make 1.) I have had Corel Draw since version 3. I've never learned it. 2.) I had Poser version 1, bought in 1996. I never learned that. 3.) I'm finally starting to learn some Poser version 4.03 stuff, thanks to folks here. I've been at it for a year now. I am in the middle of a few things, including recovering from a tooth extraction. So I will cut this short. If you have a drawing to share, share it. If it will help I'll dig through all my CD's and find some pretty rotten stuff I did! Ron

Well, I'll tell ya.... this is what I do.... I get the first one kinda the way i want it. Then before adding the second character, I lock the figure. If I have added clothes I make sure to lock those too because if you need to move it all you need to do is unlock the actual figure. The clothes will follow even if locked. I save a lot too! And thank you!!! You are sweet. Can we post the ones we sent in to Daz for their contest. I didn't see anything that said you couldn't. I have one I made totally off the wall for me and I guess I am dying for opinions!

If you're asking me, there are no rules here. I just got this thread going to encourage anyone to jump in.. It doesn't matter if you consider yourself a newbie. I've run into some folks who swear they're new. I look at their stuff, and tell them they're pros!

Ron, Hope your tooth pain is subsiding quickly! I would have offered to pull your tooth myself--for free--but I see from my toolbox that my teenage son has borrowed my vice grips. :-) Thanks for starting yet another GREAT thread. I agree PabloS. He is great. I had a problem with something I had bought, needed to redownload it but it was no longer there. he helped me and was just fantastic!! So yeah cause he is helpful in other places at Rosity too!!

I am deeply touched by the sentiments and compliments. Renderosity, and my friends, are truly invaluable to me. If it were not for you, Poser would still be in the pile of software that I had bought but never learned. Remember, I had bought Poser Version 1 in 1996, and never learned it. Poser 4, and Renderosity made all the difference. I woke up with a touch of insomnia, and read this message. I am babbling a bit. Kayjay97, your work is stunning. I agree whole heartedly with the sentiment.. We were all newbies at one time.. I shudder now when I think how proud I was of my first efforts... Default pose and all.. It took me months to figure out how to move those darn figures around without them vanishing... and when I got that hair to stay put it was pure delight. Looking back it has been a fun journey.. Learning the program, meeting people, sharing ... pimpinwillye That is execellent.. My first Bryce was an elipse on a rock no where near as good as yours :)

thanx for so much support, i remember when i was making my RPG game, i went to a forum and all they did was pay out newbies, it was so annoying cos they acted like they never were newbies. The renderosity people are the nicest i have ever seen. mainly cos they now how hard it is!!!

I've been in many different online or bbs-type forums and newsgroups in my day. I've run into many who feel it necessary to persecute newbies. I have to say that most of these people are very sad people and likely can't make it in the "Real World." If they venture into the Real World at all, they're most likely misfits, who get bounced around by others they encounter. So they retreat to their computer, eat their favorite junk food, drink sodas or maybe a few beers, and they lapse into the world where they all have grandiose names and pretend to be kings of their world. Of course they need the newbies so they can feel "superior." Sorry, that last message hit to home, and reminded me of a former life. That's one reason you see me act the way I do here in Renderosity. I know how special and fragile some artistic souls can be. Renderosity helps nurture that creativity, and I'll do my best to be a part of that mission. (PS: pimpinwillye, I'm old enough to be your grandfather, but we won't let that stop us from being best of buddies.) Ron
