Mike, I have written an e-mail to RH february 20, exactly as they indicate on their webpage (with my reg key number, purchase date, registered name etc.) for "old" registered users of 3Dexploration from XDimensions. February 26, I got my update to Deep Exploration v.2, with the reg key and every thing. It works great. Have you done so also, or just wrote a "private " request? Guitta

Oh, and Mike, if you did not follow the "rules" at their page, do it now, you will get a fast answer for sure. If ever you do not remember, we all (lucky people) purchased our first version from XDimensions june 2000:-). You find the actual register key in your Windows regedit if you have not saved it anywhere else. GuittaI wasn't sure what to do. I couldn't find the original email I got from X Dimension, so I just sent my registration name and email, and attached the only thing from the registry I could find that resembled a key. I don't know if that was right or not. Jeez, I hate going into the registry. Scary stuff in there! I hope that's what they wanted. I'll let you know how I make out, hein, when I get it. Were you able to revert to 1.8 after installing the new one?
Mike, if I remeber well... They sent you a download link only. Before every thing, you have to go to their site (they say that in the mail ?), register with the serial number they have sent to you and then download v 2. Then they will send you another e-mail what looks like this one : ____________________ ""Thank you for registering Deep Exploration. Below you will find your Authorization Code, username and password. To complete the activation of your license select Register from the Help menu and enter your Serial Number and Authorization Code when prompted. The username and password will give you access to the Registered User area that contains product updates, the latest plugin files and more. Please ensure that you keep this information in a safe place and remember that your username and password are not to be used by anyone other than yourself. Order ID/Serial Number: xxxxxxxxxxxxx Authorization Code: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Username: blabla Password: xxxxxxxxx (Note: both the username and password are case sensitive) ..........."" _______________________ When you install, it will ask you if you agree to install in c:program filesDeepExploration just say OK (your original 3Dexploration is in the folder 3Dexploration or XDimensions). PPHPHHTTTTHHHPPPPTTTHHHHHTTTTHHHHH !!!!!! I heard back from them and was sent all the info, and downloaded it (was I supposed to download the demo?), and then installed it. Ut looks good, and it says it accepted my registration info, but the File menu doesn't do anything! I can load an object, but only through the browser at the side, and not through File Menu>Open. Needless to saay I can't do any conversions, either, since File>Save As won't work either. I just click the File button, and tthe menu unfolds, but clicking on Open or Save just makes it close and nothing happens. Yeah....some upgrade. :/
Grrr! I spoke too fast. When I installed Deep Exploration, I used it immediately and every thing worked fine. I could open and convert and save my files. Few days ago, I have converted some lwo files. Today, after I had posted the previous message, I wanted to see, why it did not work for you, opened Deep Exploration, clicked on OPEN and tried FILE--->OPEN.... Nothing! Loaded an existing file from the Favorites, tried to save, Nothing either. I have uninstalled, re-installed, doesn't work. What happend? That's crazy. Guitta
Well, the plot thickens: I tried to download some plugins, thinking maybe that was the problem, but my user name and password were rejected! Then I tried to see if something had gone wrong and selected the Retrieve Password thing, and then I was told that my Serial number was not a valid Deep Exploration SS#. And all this info was exactly what they had sent me! Weird. I suspect that they are only partially interested in us "addopted 'customers'"..... And if this is sort of thing is also happening for the folks who are paying $250.00 for it.... I suspect we will be waiting for a while.
I really have better things to do, but as I'm too angry and also curious, I went back to their site and to the Community place. First time I had put in my user name and my password, they did not recognice it. I saw there is a link to first register. That's what I did. And it worked. Just for fun (not so much fun) I tried then the password lost thing and got an e-mail whith an activation link. I went there and... got a new password. Try again, Mike and tell me what you can find there. Where are the plugins ?
I don't know, Guitta. It seems everything about their system is all screwed up, and very unclear. Like you, I don't have time for this. Again, after filling out the form, I was told I'm already registered, but I did successfully request my user name/password. Seems like way too much trouble to go to just for a product upgrade that works. Anyhow, I'll let you know what happens.
Hello again. I got an answer from Orio, it is the following: _________________________________________________________ Mine neither works, Guitta. There are workarounds though. To load, browse through directories. This lets you select files. To save, right-click on file name and choose convert. All options are there. Awkward, and time consuming, for sure, but the above works. __________________________________________________________ Not a really good solution, but we can make it work while waiting for an answer from RH. Oh wow, I hadn't even noticed that, Guiitta. Thanks for posting and my thanks to Orio, too! Orio seems to have a way with software. It has alot more options than 3D Exploration did, as well. Awkward, yes, but now I can at least test it and find more problems with it. ;) But yeah, still, workaround or not, it does need to be fixed. I'll let you know when I hear back from them.
Orio suggested that, if we don't get a satisfying answer, we write 1 mail signed by us all. I don't know where are gone all the "purchasers" from year 2000 ? Only contact I have is with Martial Fauteux. I'm waiting for an answer from him. He lives in Canada and will answer when he's back from work, I think. I'll let you know. Guitta
Mike, I've just about checked and unchecked every option there is in the program and it makes no difference at all. Ofcourse it would be more than a little strange if you had to go through all kind of options simply to make this fileviewer to perform most basic actions. RH support's attitude of "it doesn't happen here so it's impossible that it happens elsewhere" doesn't really raise much hope for any further help from that corner.
Woke up and found this in my email: Hi Mike, This "save as" problem looks to be a bug that is occurring on just a few users computers, and we are working to solve the problem as we speak. I hope to have an update very soon. As yet there is no registered users area for Deep Exploration, but when the first patch is available it will be located in the downloads area. I recently updated 3DExplorer 1.8 to DeepExplorer2.0 (freebee update as owner of very very old version) but in my version the material properties are not working, I can get into the properties part but every button or link in the program after that doesn't work. According to RH-support it runs fine on their PC's, I've found 17 so far where it doesn't. Question, is there anyone here that also uses this version and does it work on their machine? Don't start telling me there are better and cheaper programs that do the same, I got my original(0.9b) free :) Hein
