Subject: Anyone buy Poser Wizard yet?

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 04 April 2002 at 8:28 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 12:59 PM

And if you did were you able to get it to work? Thanks, Marque

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 04 April 2002 at 8:32 PM

This is weird, when I ran it using the Brycetec vampire set and the p4 male I got a warning from my virus software that it was trying to create an activex file. Wonder what's up. Marque

JDexter ( ) posted Thu, 04 April 2002 at 8:40 PM

What is Poser Wizard? JDexter

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 04 April 2002 at 8:49 PM

Ok, no file to explain how to use it so if the beta testers would care to enlighten me on how they got it to work I would appreciate it. And yes, I have an email in to the creator of the program. Marque

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 04 April 2002 at 8:53 PM

It's in the store. Supposed to allow you to make clothing conformable. So far nothing but errors and no help file on how to use it, just on how to set up the preferences. Think I wasted my money on this one. Don't like the idea of it trying to create an activex file on my computer without ANY explanation as to why it would. I think I've asked for a refund once from Renderosity, and I have bought a ton of stuff from here, but I think it's refund time on this. Reminds me of that other program that no one else could get to work...the one I didn't buy because the demo would never work right. Marque

Hmm...I think I know which "other program" you're talking about, and I think I agree with you. For items like this, does Renderosity itself test them? I was thinking about buying the Wizard, but now I'm going to wait until I hear something solid on it.

EricTorstenson ( ) posted Thu, 04 April 2002 at 11:12 PM

what sort of functionality does the "other program" perform? Just curious, since we all should be aware. eric

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 1:14 AM

I own the Tailor. Not talking about morphs, I'm talking about creating an item and bringing it into this program to make it conform to your Poser character. I believe I was one of the first to buy the Tailor, and apparently one of the first to get this program as well. Marque

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 2:10 AM

Ok, he tells me each wizard has it's own help file, but when I click on the ? beside the about button, no help file shows up. I would advise against buying this program until he has fixed that problem. There are NO help files to show you how to use the wizards, and I have not been able to get it to work yet, just keep getting errors and it crashes. Marque

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 2:10 AM

And yes, I have emailed him back with error code number and asked him to send me the help file. Marque

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 2:12 AM

Eric, I think most people remember that $50 program that was supposed to make a 3D obj from a scan. I have yet to read that anyone was able to get it to work. Marque

Turtle ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 7:58 AM

You should just get your money back!!!! Period. This is one bitch I have about MKP, you have to go to the creator first. You know sometimes I know that person so I just take the darn loss. With Daz I have returned at less 20 things. No problem, I do not ask for my money back but store credit. They always come through. (I know this isn't about your program) But if you can't make something work after spending a day at it. It shouldn't be on the Market!!!!

Love is Grandchildren.

KattMan ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 8:20 AM

OK I'm fessing up. Apparently my beta test team didn't go through everything as thouroly as I had hoped. I had this thing in beta and coding fixes for more than a month. The tester for the marketplace spnet nearly a week working with the program and didn't have a problem. I even requested that it be failed if the help file wasn't good enough. I'm pulling this from the marketplace due to the greivences. It was not my intention to give everyone so many problems. If you want a personal review of your issues you can write me directly. I'm going back into beta on this thing and if anyone wants to be part of the testing team let me know.

Seravajan ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 8:21 AM

Still to Real was the $50 program. The Poser Wizard costs $20. Seravajan

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 8:59 AM

I appreciate that you have pulled it to get it further tested and that you are giving me a refund. When you have it back together and it works I will probably buy it again. Showed that you are professional by dealing with the problem and taking it off the market until you have the bugs chased out. Thank you, Marque

It was exciting to see such a rapid customer growth on this, but that excitment has lead to nightmare. I have had a few customers that have had no problems with it, but they are a small group in comparison to the complaints I have recieved. If you were part of the minority then the product would still be available, as it is I could not risk marring my reputation further by leaving the product in the store. I am going to continue to try to resolve these issues, but I am unsure of the future of this product due to the response I have recieved so far. Don't get me wrong, this definatly seems to be something people want, it's just that the reputation this now has will be a large hurdle to overcome in the future. I hope to overcome this, but only you, my customers will be able to decide that.

KattMan ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 9:59 AM

I am putting together my plan for fixing these issues as I fend off the problems reported here. Anyone wishing to retian the usage rights can forego the process of asking for a refund. These people will be immediatly contacted when I have the next version out. Those of you that have asked for refunds, I appreciate the fact that although you have had a bad experiance with the product, you do not see me in a bad light. With this said, I am going to be working diligently on the next version and those that have retianed thier rights to use the program will definatly recieve the new version before the product is officially released again. I am going to be putting together an entirely new beta team from scratch. This team will probably be receiving a new version by mid next week if I can get the team put together by that time. Once again, anyone interested should write me directly. I need an e-mail address where I can contact you.

brycetech ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 10:36 AM

what is this written in? ie..program language? just curious BT

Seravajan ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 10:36 AM

@KattMan: Did you got my email? If yes, was my email included? Because I sent it using the Renderosity mailer. Seravajan

KattMan ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 10:44 AM

Brycetech. Written in VB 6.0. Any non standard controls were written by me and included in the install. The method of handling HTML style help files is a little strange in VB and my code may be the culprit here. I may be reverting back to standard HLP formats for the next release. Seravajan, I have your e-mail and placed it in my folder for potential testers.

Nukeboy ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 12:22 PM

As an aside, I had trouble with VB6 including certain runtime libraries when compacted into an install. I haven't seen or tried your program, but those that had difficulty, I wonder if they manually installed the VB6 runtime libraries from MS could get the program to run? Just curious....

KattMan ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 12:26 PM

The issue isn't with actually getting the file to run. I know where the problems are basically from talking with the people that bought it. Essentially, if you were to use this program purely for posette and dork in should work nearly flawlessly. It's when you go to a non standard figure that the whole thing seems to fall apart. Well that's true for everything except the help files. Still haven't located that bug as yet.

EricTorstenson ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 2:51 PM

Marque, have you had a chance to visit poserpros.com (I think that is the name) It was listed as a new site on a thread the other day. In one of the forums there, there was quite a bit of discussion regarding reusing CR2s from other objects (I think Burton said he never makes his own cr2s unless it is something completely different from what was done before) You might want to check it out. Could save you some money and time (modifying an obj in a cr2 is generally very fast....and if you are working off of a copy, zero risk as well) Just a thought, Eric

EricTorstenson ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 2:58 PM

Nukeboy, there is a file named VBRun60sp5.exe that you can get from M$ that will install/update all of those files for you (the sp5 is the service pack for the dev environment, it should match which ever version the developers are using....hopefully 5 since it is the current one). The verison of Dev software I use allows me to distribute those files as part of the installation (that particular one is 1M in size). I think all version os Vis. Studio allow this, but I might be mistaken. A properly created installer should call this file automatically during installation. If the installer is not doing this, then shame on the person building the installation program. Of course, for free software, we should be forgiving....if someone collects cash as a result, they should be doing it the right way. eric

KattMan ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 3:28 PM

Eric, The service pack is installed on my DEV machine. I have to have it due to my career. (I know, judging from this it is a wonder at times huh?) Getting the VBRun from MS isn't going to fix the problems everyone has been having here. It is a code issue, my fault. I'm working to get these fixed as soon as possible so that everyone that has purchased this can get a good working copy that operates as advertised. All of you that have not asked for a refund will have a working product very soon, I assure you. Further testing is being done and code changes are going in as of today. I had the product pulled due to the seriousness and the popularity of this item. I didn't want to many people buying this product in it's current state, but it will return!

Marque ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 4:12 PM

I think it was very professional to handle it this way. He is taking care of the problem, and he pulled it from the store until it is fixed. He has offered and made refunds to the people who wanted them, there isn't much more he can do. He knows what the problem is and is dealing with it in a timely manner. Thank you Eric for the help I will check that out. Marque

Crescent ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 9:25 PM

Don't get so despondant, KattMan. When the next release comes out, I, for one, will definitely consider the product. Coming into a thread, appologizing for a coding problem, offering refunds, and explaining the issue show better business ethics than most software companies I've ever seen. People may remember the problems with the product, but they'll also remember how you handled it. We're quick to jump on problems, but we're also quick to defend honest vendors. Let us know when you've finished applying the sledgehammer to the code.

KattMan ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 9:47 PM

Thank you crescent. Actually I am surprised at the support this has generated for me. At this time I think most of my customers are happy, not necessarily with the product, but more with the way I am handling the problems and complaints. This is going to make a comeback, of that I am sure. There will be an announcment of it's next release, but I think I will delay my jubilation a day or so just to see how things pan out. As for the sledgehammer, program code is to delicate. It is requiring laser scalples and electron microscopes. The fix for the OBJ Ripper has been released to a few testers already and I am awaiting thier responces. Once that comes back I will release to a wider group.

KattMan ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 9:52 PM

Hmmm, This is getting me to think. Those of you that have retained liscense rights by not asking for a refund, do you want to wait until I get the full product updated or do you guys prefer patches in the meantime. I'm doing this piece by piece and the program can be easily updated in that fashion due to the way it is coded. Most of the patches will be extremly small, somewhere between the 50 and 100 KB range. Just let me know and I will honor your wishes on this.

movida ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 11:43 PM

KattMan: I'd like to have it also when you've fixed it, and I'll buy it

KattMan ( ) posted Mon, 08 April 2002 at 8:50 PM

ok, I haven't posted here redcently, I;ve been working hard to fix all these problems. Earlier I mentioned that this might take a few weeks, well guess what, I'm nearly finished! Many of the bugs found by you guys when using formats I never even thought of have been fixed. All my customers can expect an e-mail in the next few days about the update and how to recieve it. This is going to be a full update package as every piece of this will have changed. I haven't forgotten about you guys at all. It just takes time to go through the code and try to make sure I get it right this time.
