HELP! as you can see, I can't model properly there isn't really any one thing that I need help with...just in general... the model itself just looks ugly like..for example, the ear, how do I blent the spines in it into the head better? I'm going to (attempt) to make a full dragon from this...hopefully it'll look a *lot* better with a texture and bump map SewerRat p.s. Ikyoto, I haven't forgotten about the Aliens stuff, but I want to make an organic "animal" first

I would say that you have made a very good start. It's a bit like playing the piano, you get better with practice, Be encouraged, you are well on the way. Regards PhilC

You is a heck of a lot better than me....! Scarab<-cant model Playdough correctly (had to repeat kindergarten twice)

What program are you using?

SewerRat ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2000 at 4:40 PM

I'm using 3DSMax yeah Phil, I've noticed that once I've done something once I can usually repeat it without much hassle, but getting it done in the first place is the trick Scarab, damn that playdough 'eh? All I could make with it was spagetti and it tasted DISGUSTING. I passed kindergarten easily. It was....almost....like they were trying to get rid of me..........hmm, wait a minute! DARN THOSE TRICKY KINDERGARTEN TEACHERS! SewerRat

I never had any problem with the play dough. I got in trouble for carving my own designs into the teacher's pumpkin. (I was a verrrrrrry naughty boy!)

heya; it looks pretty good, sewersie! the ear spines dont need to blend into the head a whole lot... but you could try... well, you need to expand the inner ends of the spines, then link or weld them to the vertices that make up the head at that point. are you going to make it posable? model the jaw open about 15-45 degrees. and if you have trouble with the teeth getting in the way, let me know, because i have a trick for that. :)

SeweRat, the Playdough spaghetti tasted a lot better if you drank the "special orange juice" the teachers gave out... Scarab<-mmmmmmmm orrrraaange juuuuuuuuuice.....ZZZzzzzzzzz

SewerRat ( ) posted Wed, 02 February 2000 at 7:58 PM

yep it's going to be posable I was going to have the jaw as a seperate body part, copying from Anton's dragon where he did that. The teeth might get in the way, but I haven't put many of them in the head, and I've offset them so they shouldn't hit each other (fingers crossed)

Albertosaurus ( ) posted Thu, 03 February 2000 at 1:29 PM

Which version of Max? And are you building with meshes, patches, or nurbs?

SewerRat ( ) posted Thu, 03 February 2000 at 9:37 PM

max3.1 I'm building with meshes what I'm doing is getting a sphere/cone etc. and applying modifiers to them, the horns and teeth are just spheres with modifiers, so I can change their parameters later the head itself, because I need to do more modelling on, I then converted to an editable mesh. I haven't used patches or nurbs, but I've got a book permanantly on the desk behind me, and I've found I'm able to look up how to do things rather easily, just as long as I know what I want to do SewerRat
