Subject: Curious Labs here???

Dave-So ( ) posted Sun, 16 June 2002 at 9:15 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 1:00 PM

I haven't been reading the posts here very long...pretty much on the original Poser list now at Yahoo...but does Curious Labs have a presence here??? There doesn't seem to be much feedback from them, ever, in regards to comments made by folks discussing features, problems, etc...they seem to be non-existant.

kupa and the gang hang out here. Actually, if I'm not mistaken, kupa said once that visiting the forums was part of his every day. (kupa = steve cooper, president) They play it very wisely by not getting involved in issues that have the members in an uproar. Ya really cant blame them. Ive seen 'em get boiled for minor things. In fact, my predecessor (debbie) boiled 'em pretty well done when they first released their update on Poser4. (how many remember that?) Kupa was very nice and even directly emailed debbie many times to smooth any ruffled feathers. Anyhow, by just watching and reading they get the feedback and avoid any unnecessary problems. BT

Probably is a good idea :) Plus you don't want to say something inadvertantly and tick off your customers. However..it would be nice to know if there even is a Poser 5 in the works...some of the big new features we need to be waiting for and so forth :) I have obught all the Posers since v1, so I suppose the next is a shoo-in no matter what it is...unless all my P4 investments can't be used or something...

Kupa apparently visited the Bay Area Poser users party. That was mentioned here within the last few days.

Bobasaur, Steve was indeed here, and he brought Karen and the kids. Real people. Nice People. He also showed us some software. Real software. NICE software. But we all signed NDAs and I'd rather be peppered by rocksalt than by some lawyer's questions. Carolly

c1rcle ( ) posted Mon, 17 June 2002 at 5:37 AM

was it NICE or VERY NICE software, you know something to put smiles on lots of faces? I know you can't give details but is it something to start getting excited about? Rob

Dave-So ( ) posted Mon, 17 June 2002 at 5:51 AM

Well...this is indeed good news. I kinda figured it was in the works, with all the speculation...but hadn't read that thread until now. I'd be happy with a font color change right now in the meantime, so I could see the dials. Perhaps there wil be a whole new interface...hard telling now... .....back to waiting :)

c1rcle, If we were smiling any broader, the duct tape wouldn't cover it? I wish it came in peppermint flavor. Gack! You know it is hard to t-ype with the t-ongue stuck to the t--ape! Carolly

lol, I promise not to ask any more difficult questions on that subject :) actually I'm hoping CL keep the best bits from the current interface, being able to move the bits around is a godsend, here's my setup for poser at the moment, had to shrink it a lot for the dialup challenged. Rob

ronknights ( ) posted Mon, 17 June 2002 at 7:50 AM

c1rcle, Hey, you use Windows XP too?! How in the heck do you get the Document Display Style and Editing Tools to go vertical rather than horizontal? I've dragged them all around, and can't duplicate that feat.

Dave-So ( ) posted Mon, 17 June 2002 at 7:56 AM

hold on here a minute... How did you get the text of the dials light in respect to the background ??? Actually, they appear to be all selected, as the title is still dim.... If I change the background, the text changes to a different shade of the background color--still unreadable.

Ron if you hold down the ALT key and click on the title of the tool bar it changes to pointing down, I didn't know about it till a couple of weeks ago. Dave I just chose a pale colour and it did it on its own, when I hover the mouse over the titles they go white. here's poser4 pretending to be poser2, when you got poser running press the keys po2 to get this and then po3 to get back to normal. Another little trick I found out about not too long ago. Rob

OOOH, Rob, I could give you a big kiss.. but since we're guys, I'll give you a "manly handshake," and a slap on the back. Yes "the next drink is on me!" Thanks.

c1rcle ( ) posted Mon, 17 June 2002 at 8:46 AM

lol, I'll settle for the manly handshake anytime Ron. but only from the guys ;) Rob

Dave-So ( ) posted Mon, 17 June 2002 at 8:48 AM

Thanks much Rob :) At least in the old interface its possible to read the dials...although limited number of them. It sure is a much cleaner interface...rather spartan looking after using the Meta UI...but functional.

Hmmm, and how does one change the color?

Bobasaur ( ) posted Mon, 17 June 2002 at 11:15 AM

I've heard nothing but good things from those of us who've interacted with kupa - even those who've had "hard" subjects to deal with. I'm pleased. He's climbing up very high on my list of company heads I think highly of.

Actually though, there are only a few on that list. Him, Steve Jobs (yes, I know he's been a "handful" at times but he's sooo visionary) and Walt Disney.

Those that have simply accrued alot of money don't impress me so much. I can look through history and see that a bunch of evil scumbags have done that. I'm not saying that having alot of money means you're evil - but if that's all you've accomplished it means that you didn't necessarily do anything that some of the worst people in the species didn't also do.

It's the way you did it (if you even made any money at all) that impresses me. How you bettered the lives of those around you. Kupa sounds like he's a man of character. I'm impressed. I hope those that work with me think of me that way.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm not actually a man of character, I'm a man of character animation :) Glad that the group in Emeryville enjoyed our nice software. Kupa

Puntomaus ( ) posted Mon, 17 June 2002 at 11:59 AM

@BluesPadawan : take the paintbucket from the toolspalette, left mouseclick and the colorepalette appears. Move your paintbucket over the colorpalette until you find a color that looks good and release the mousebutton, that's it.

You're welcome, but in all honesty what I said was based on hearsay evidence and is probably not admissable in a court of law! Thanks for Poser and the ProPack.

I say the people at CL & all the sites devoted to their software have had a positive affect on my life. I mean they put in place the catalyst for the creation of a community of people who's main aim is to help & advise each other, so that makes them good people in my eyes, plus you try talking to Bill "son of satan" Gates, not a chance, try sending him an email or message it'll never get to him and if answered it'll be answered by someone who's never even seen him, leave a message for steve and he'll get back to you, might take him a while cause he's busy but he'll answer. finally I get to the end of my ramble you say, my last word is to say thank you to steve & the rest of the guys & girls at CL for poser. I've had my eye on Poser Pro for some time - mostly for the 4-way interface and the scripts. I don't have any use for the plugins. But now I'm wondering - with P5 coming soon, is there any point any more getting PPro? Will there be a P5 Pro, or will there even be several different extension packages? Or everything rolled into one? Hm..... :o] :] FishNose

c1rcle ( ) posted Mon, 17 June 2002 at 1:23 PM

I reckon P5 will have everything that P4 & PPro have just much better, no I wasn't at the party so I can say anything cause I don't know anything :) Rob

I think it's really cool what Curious Labs has done with Poser! - They've really expanded it to a whole new level! Can't wait to see what's available in Poser 5! Drooooool! ;-) Dave :-)

I would put my money on Siggraph for a release of Poser 5. If they showed a group of Poser users...then it at the point to demo it as Siggraph and maybe sell it. I would start saying the bucks..
