I was watching a homocide crime scene re-creation on the
documentery style show called the "new detectives" last night
and big as life there was Posette shooting dork in the back of the head as he slept!!

Poor Dork!!

my big question is ..how do we get these

Create some really nice animation demos of car accidents, shootings, assaults, etc. and create a demo CD. Then send it to all the lawyers (and district attorney offices) in your area with a letter of introduction explaining that you are a freelance 3D artist able to do 3D scene recreation on a contractual basis. If your work is good and they see a need for it... they'll contact you. They won't care too much about how much you charge, since they're just going to charge their client for it anyway. The only reason I haven't done this is... if I re-create a scene that gets a murderer off... can I live with myself? I guess I'll stick to 3D character portraits for Everquest and Dark Ages of Camelot fans... pay isn't the greatest... but I can go to sleep with a clean conscience.

Any court animation you do will have to be based on the
physical and forensic evidence gathered by the police.

Murderers " get off " due to prosecutorial incompetance
, misconduct and ignorant juries with their own agendas
(O.J. Simpson!!)

Not because of any defense teams

I partially agree wolf359. Animations are based on the prosecution's OR defense's interpretation of the forensic evidence. That's why you can have 3 "experts" from the prosecution state one thing (ie. he's mentally competent) whereas the defense will have 3 other "experts" who state the opposite. When dealing with forensic data, there is still room for interpretation and usually the client wants you to interpret it in the best possible light.

Someone at Curious told me they were once commissioned to do a detailed forensic recreation in Poser and the defense was so appalled by the realism (i.e., the models had been morphed to strongly resemble the parties) that the judge had the animation thrown out before the jury could see it. Said Curious employee also shared the name of a well-known defendant who registered a copy of Poser but never used it in his defense. (I'd name the defendant but I don't want the employee to get in trouble with his boss.) Point is, I wouldn't be surprised to see more use of Poser in this potential application given the paucity of affordable alternatives.

I saw an ad of the poser babies sitting in a studio talking about insurance, it was quite well done superimposed onto a background with real people walking about. Rob

I heard a story on NPR(yesterday, I think) discussing 3d animations in court cases. According to the guy being interviewed, there was a huge amount of detail that had to be tended to (when "re-inacting" a automobile accident, it had to be very accurate, or else would likely be dismissed) I was listening, hoping I might get some encouragement, but I can't image that my skills with magnets would satisfy those sorts of demands. Other types of court cases, however, might be more likely to be doable with standard poser stuff (and skill). I imagine that there is a market throughout the US, and probably the world. You would just have to get the word out to the right people. eric

How about Poser reconstruction of spouses cheating in divorce cases? There should be more than enough Renderosity, Renderotica and Thralldom artists qualified.

heh heh:) Maybe, plastic surgery enhancements (I think one of the first TV commercials I saw showed a wireframe animation of either posture or breast enhancement which looked like posette)

I'm senior associate at a small firm in Arizona and hope to do just that, put on a re-enactment of a crime scene. Some day maybe. Unfortunately for Poser, 99% of my cases end in a plea acceptance or dismissal. Nationwide, over 95% of criminal cases do end in plea offers. Civil cases, especially personal injury, might lend to this kind of work. The problem is getting a court to allow a computer generated re-creation to be shown. There's lots of objections to that kind of work and it has to be dead cold perfect on the sequence of events. Its more likely that such a thing would show up on TV than in a courtroom, although more and more courts are open to modern technology.

I think Posette is being used in a set of commercials for a place called "Door to Door storage". They feature portable storing units, that are packed and moved from one place to another. Posette is used as the customers.

I went and saw "We will rock you" at the Dominion Theatre the other week and buggar me if they weren't Poser figures dancing on the suspended video screen to Radio Ga Ga...

Hey Guys! Curious Labs LOVES to hear about your sightings! Next time you see a cool Poser animation or picture in an ad, shoot an email over to us at info@curiouslabs.com. Sometimes we use cool stories for our Lab Report! You can regularly see Poser in Maxim, Stuff and FHM! Actually this months Maxim (July actually) has a 4 page layout on how to survive with Dork and Posette. (PAUL WOOTEN IF YOU ARE OUT THERE EMAIL US!) Have you seen the informercials with Poser? There's a lot of those out there...! Cheers! Tori (CS Woman at CL!)

duanemoody ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 2:41 PM

So, Paul Wooten's the guy who won't download a single morph for P4 figures, huh? We'll fix that. Paul, if you are out there, note that Freestuff here just sprouted commercial use notes in the listings, so your art director doesn't have to get anal any more about using downloaded content in your renders. Some of us will even send written consent if they need it. Cute trick going to flat lined render last year for the pregnant model (i.e., easier to postwork the belly in Photoshop).

Hey guys! The Poser Stuff in maxim is actually on Maximonline! http://www.maximonline.com/grit/split_decisions/
