Tsk....well it works just fine on my Mac running Netscape The site looks very clean and is easy to navigate. Some minor quibbles: make the "enter" animation a tad darker. Its a nice touch and currently it collapses too much into the BG. Second, on the textures page, the column containing the version info (poser 4 etc) seems right justified where it should be left justified. I look forward to visiting often jje
Don't have checked your site but will do. As a webmaster had to tell you, if you don't programm for IE and Netscape in the near future you may have only to programm for Microsoft with his monopole and the many bugs with their new software-releases, especially IE. Think, thats not that what makes a good software-company. Any other then microsoft would be bacrott with a politic like this. Sorry for all others, i know politic is not what this forum needs, but must be said. Best regards SHARKEY
Looks like Shockwave or Flash to me. One warning - if you're using Netscape do NOT accidentally open two copies of this site! Doing so and using the back-arrown on one of them crashed my browser (but I think we have a bad build of Netscape at this desk)! From what (little) I saw, looks like a very nice site.
Thanks :) those changes that you suggested are good ones jje and I fixed that :) the enter script was taken from a DHTML scripts site, so I cant claim credit for that one... but any DHTML that I do, I usually use Homesite, and just do it by hand... The site should look almost exactly the same in netscape, the original design that I had had to be changed to support that browser... Perhaps IE shouldnt be the only browser, but as a developer, I have to say I wish netscape would start supporting more or just die off... I cant not stand getting a decent design, and running into all sorts of problems because Netscape doesnt support all the W3 specs.... I am still working on things and hope to be done soon :) Darrin
IE isn't open to code changes - it's open to VERY sloppy coding! I hate the FrontPage program because of this; it frequently generates code that will ONLY work in IE of the time (of course, the original version of Office 2000 generated code that would crash even IE at least 10% of the time...). Then again, I haven't looked at the latest version; my hatred is due to Front Page '98; they may have fixed it since then but I wouldn't bet on it. Ever since I first looked at it, I found myself wishing that DHTML would become a standard with the Netscape formatting (much cleaner and easier to read/debug) and the IE functionality (they added about thirty features that Netscape didn't). Sorry, I'm going off topic! I tend to rant at times...
true, I dontlike front page either, but that is a limitation of the program rather than IE.. thought FP 2000 isnt bad.. IE did add functionality that Netscape didnt, but the reverse is true... the difference lay in the fact that IE made extensions to existing tags, while netscape introduced their own propriatary tags... I wish just the oposite with DHTML, I hope that the trend moves toward MS, the object model that IE uses is MUCH easier to work with.. And I found out the other day when I did my site, that nescape just handles frames extremely poorly, so that is the main reason while my site is set up frameless.. they have been a a serious downward spiral anyways now that AOL bought them... and the only reason that AOL made the purchase was to get control of the domain name and the millions of daily visitors... not a coincidence that netscape.com has a link to x rated sites on it.. Darrin
Well I don't know nothing bout programing the sites or anything but using IE on the mac is a horrible thing .... Fo you it is flexible but for me it is such a headache ... I can't even download mac only files from freestuff ... silly Anyway .. that being said nice site .. I have it bookmarked at work S
The actual standard is HTML (or DHTML). Both Netscape (the company) and Microsoft chose to 'embrace and extend' the standard, in different directions but for the same basic reason. The most HTML compliant browser to write to would be iCab. With every page visited it displays an icon that tells you if the source is proper HTML. Even better, it run on the Macintosh. =) As Netscape (the company) was foundering on the reef of ecommerce, the crew sort of threw the cargo overboard, i.e. they open-sourced their browser technology as Mozilla. Of course the problem with open source software is that it doesn't ship until it actually works; so it's still in development. Then there's Opera, which is cross palatform. Is that still in beta? I will go look at the site now.
well, you see how the site is with the blocks of grey interspaced with white lines? well, originally I had that as a frameset, with all the white lines as 2 pixel wide frames... you can see it here: www.darrinsden.com/frame.html Now in IE, it looked fine, but in netscape, it didnt like the frames the way they were and was unable to fix it.. I have had the same problem at work.. trying to get frames to line up, and it has NOT been very much fun..... Basically with frames, netscape currently only supports HTML 3.2 while IE is fully complient with 4.0 and adds a couple other extensions in there also... I have nothing against netscape, I used to use them relegiously, until the quility of IE increased to a point that there wasnt much point in using NS anymore.. Darrin
Thanks :) Netscape used to have problems with nested tables, but some of the pages that I have there have table 4 or 5 deep with no problems :) glad to here that NS 4.08 works good, since all I have is 4.7 and it is nice to see how it works with slightly older versions ... the MS rant is definitly for another thread, but I must say that an upgrade to windows 2000 if worth it... I have been using it for a year now and it just doesnt crash.. that is one thing that I have to say I like! Darrin

I have been working the past week on a new look to my personal site... I realized that I had spent so much time on getting the PFO looking nice that my site hadnt been updated in quite a while.. I have integrated forums in there, and the galleries are entirely run by the UBB scripts... that way when I want to update an image, it is very simple... just make a new post.. and it allows for coments... I am planning on trying to get some other gallery and news scripts working as I get time... and still have some of the UBB screens to convert over to this format.. It is still a little rough, as I am working out some of the kinks here... the site works best in IE, but I have tried to make it as compatible with netscape as I can... I just HATE writing code for that browser! Take a look and I would love your comments Darrin
