Subject: Notes on Vic2Steff - Victoria remapped to use Steff's textures.

Crescent ( ) posted Wed, 21 August 2002 at 8:51 PM · edited Fri, 31 January 2025 at 9:25 AM

There's a few minor quirks with the Vic2Steff remapping, available at FreeStuff: 1) The eyebrows don't work quite right. Steff's eyebrows are constructed differently than Victoria's. If the Eyebrows (not Uppereyebrows) are set to transparent on Steff, make them untransparent on Vicki or she'll have eyebrow-sized holes in her head. (This is in the readme, but I figured I'd post it again, anyway. I spent hours trying to figure it out.) 2) The MATs for Steff don't fully work on Vic2Steff. Steff's eye parts and Vic's eye parts are named differently. You'll need to manually set the first set of eye parts to the Steff texture you're using. If anyone can tell me how to rename materials in UVMapper, I'll be glad to fix the problem and post a version 1.1. 3) Although Mike's textures do fit, over all, the eyes and eyelashes do not match up properly. For some reason, Steff's eyes and eyelashes were not mapped exactly the same as Mike's. Because Vic2Steff follows Steff's mapping, you'll see the same problem. It's nothing I can help. If you want to put a Mike texture on Vicki, just have the eyes and eyelashes reference a Steff texture and you'll be fine. I'll be updated my readme with this information. If anyone has any other problems, please let me know and I'll do what I can to fix them. Again, if there is a way to rename materials in UVMapper, please let me know! Cheers!

I noticed those problems as well when I tried to use Vicki's MAT files - I also tried to rename the materials in UVMapper with poor results (I ended up with duplicates). Other than that the remap works rather well, the only other problem I've had is with the lips. The lips in the texture don't seem to cover the whole lower lip of the figure. I'll see if I could make a sample pic for you. With many textures the problem isn't very obvious, though.

Crescent, use Ctrl-M ( select material ) in UVMapper and select the material you want to change the name of in the list. Then, Tools-> Assign to-> Material and enter the Vic compatible name in the dialog box. ( Then, enter :) The previous material name will be replaced by the new one. Just save and reload your obj and you'll see the old mat name is gone. Wish this helps... CU ;)

actually i fixed quirks 1 and 2 and now all my steph texture mat poses work in one click... want me to send the fix to you so you can check out what was done? it was fairly simple, 4 materials had to be renamed and the brows added to the skinhead. :) for #3 you really need a vic2mike ... those little bits remapped as well, wouldn't be much work compared to how far you'd gone already hint hint ;) thanks again Crescent :)

I fixed the problems. Whew! I uploaded the update just now. I figured out that I needed to update the .cr2 and include that. If you followed my original instructions, the .cr2 would include the original Vicki textures so after renaming them in UVMapper, the stupid things kept showing up in Poser anyway. The remap doesn't look bad with the Lance texture, but it needs a bit of postwork on the mustache. The biggest problem I've seen is that some of the texture creators really don't stay within the lines, so I had to compromise a lot. I also tweaked the upper lips so the lip textures don't bleed as much. (It made a huge difference on some textures!) and the upper eyebrows look a bit better - more symmetrical. I didn't see much of a problem with the lower lips with the textures I have, so I left those alone. The .zip files, with the .cr2 files included, are now easier to use. I'm not sure I want to do a pure Vic2Mike as Vic2Steff is really close. My next insanity is going to be Mike2Vic - which I've wanted to do for a long time. The real reason I did this wasn't the bribe (no offense, Eowyn, though the bribe was gratefully accepted!) but to get my courage up to try this. I figured if I publically accepted the challenge, I'd have to find a way to do it. And if I could do Vic2Steff, I could do Mike2Vic. Steff2Vic, Vic2Steff, Posette2Vic, Mike2Vic, these Poser people are so confused! ;-) Thanks again for all the encouragement and for teaching me new things! It is soooo past my bedtime! Cres

I completely forgot that a few of Vic's materials had a different name than Mike/Steff's. (And I have a tutorial page on this!) Summafox let me know about the MATs not working quite properly, so I went back to the remap and started investigating. (I didn't have any Steff MATs loaded during testing, so I used Mike's and thought it was a difference in material placement causing the problem.) After downing a large quantity of chocolate, I remembered the naming issue, smacking myself several times, and fixed the names for the update. (Thanks to JOE LE GECKO for showing me how to rename in UVMapper!) It was me, not your version of UVMapper, that caused the initial issue. I then spent 2 hours trying to figure out where the extra materials came from after the material names were corrected. I finally cracked open the .cr2 file and smacked myself some more. I tested it with some Steff MATs and Mike MATs and both worked fine. (The Mike textures had issues with the Eyelashes and Iris textures, but that's a problem with the Mike vs. Steff mapping, not my remap.) And there's still Mike2Vic. Sigh. Hopefully I've learned something so this one will go quicker.
