And not even a smart one. All the images bar two were made by me. The whole package consists of items made by myself (all the piercings and wrist spikelets), the necklet looks to be by sinsister and I do believe those sunglasses are by Sharkey. That's nasty! people shouldn't steal other peoples stuff and tried to re post it in a collection! >:( Talk about mental divergenace!

Digital-Witch ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 2:46 AM

I think RR is rapidly becoming a site with mud game mentality and random slurs that resemble very much Yahoo chat..!! I fail to see how any of this has any place in the art world..or perhaps the "Prima Donnas" of Digital art feel so threatned!!

Valandar ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 2:48 PM

Digital Witch, it's not "Prima Donnas"... it's that a lot of people put a lot of hard work into a product for the marketplace, and to see someone literally steal all their effort and place it into Freestuff is like watching someone steal food directly off your table. Mudslinging to call him a theif? Then is it mudslinging to call Bill Clinton a cheating husband? Because he was... don't beleive me, there's a blue dress with a white stain on it to prove it.

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Xena ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 4:52 PM

If you are referring to me being a "Prima Donna" well until you know me you really have no right to cast 'random slurs' against my character. People in glass houses and all that :) If you had someone steal something you worked hard on and claim it as their own I'm sure you'd feel differently. And this is no game, nor a random slur. This person actually DID steal from Sinsister, Traveller, Sharkey and myself. The place it has in this art world is simply that it was stolen from this and other art sites, and distributed on this art site. How is that NOT relative to this art 'world'? And I don't feel threatened in anyway at all. It's just the same thing I'd do if someone stole from me in the real world ... report it to the authorities, then warn the people I know out of respect.

Lighten up! Unless you are Bill Gates, or the Disney corp. with mega bucks to fight in court..this is all a lot of hashed over verbiage..I see RR is rapidly becoming a sounding board for fools!! Buffoons and the likes of other whiners and petty jealous egos..People are pulling their galleries off in record numbers and going to other sites..Im one of them..I can no longer tolerate all the Mud game mentality nastiness that is floating around in the 2D and Mixed Medium galleries..so be it..

Lighten up? I thought I was being light. I simply did what I thought was right and moved on. I only came back to view this thread because I got ebots saying there were replies. I didn't go around posting it in all the forums. I didn't go and poston any other board. I didn't go into chat and say a word. I just posted a simple message in this forum which was appropriate. I totally agree with all the nastiness floating around. Tis the reason I'm pretty much inactive here at Renderosity. But to come here and not only call me a Prima Donna but a buffoon, whiner and of having a petty jealous ego is just plain rude. What have I EVER done to you that would make you come here and call me names? I've never even heard of you until today.

Spike ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 5:39 PM

Ok, What's it going to take to get this worked out? I know you two are after the same point here, We will take action on any member that breaks the rules, but we must first spot them. So with the help and efforts of our members, please point out any "Mud games" and "nastiness floating around" so we can take action as needed. Play nice.

Digital-Witch ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 5:41 PM

Im not picking on any one particular person..i refer to the nastiness in general..from the ghosts of jealous so-called artists..who send nasty IMs..to the blatant plagerism of one particular person who is constantly in the top 20 in 2D gallery and yes..You know who you are!! Voting for yourself with clones is pretty low..but it seems to be done constantly..since there doesnt seem to be an anti-harassment policy..I rest my case..I have never given anyone a bad comment or rating..!! My once proud gallery has now shrunk to a few token images...RR is rapidly getting a very bad reputation among serious artists who feel they no longer wish to post on RR...myself included..

Xena ( ) posted Thu, 22 August 2002 at 5:53 PM

Ok, obviously you have an issue I know nothing about. I don't send nasty IM's or commit plagerism of any kind so it's not directed at me. This might have been better raised in the OT forum rather than here on a post which has nothing to do with your issues. Spike, I'll be good and go away now :)

well well if shit is happend then only here at RoSity. Thought the looking the files through but I guess the admin/mods having more to do with banning Members they saying the truth instead to control whats going on here :) Sorry folks to hear that this shit is happening :( At 3DC the control the files before putting online but I guess RoSity can't handle this :)

Don't let them get u down......U KNOW u are above that!! Thanks for sticking up for everyone that was being ripped! ~b

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 9:44 AM

"At 3DC the control the files before putting online but I guess RoSity can't handle this :) " Not entirely accurate if I'm reading this the way you intended. The 3DC does not control the files prior to posting. After a problem with someone pirating Dendras stuff,I restructured the way we patrol freestuff at 3DC. Rather than have many moderators patrolling the various freestuff sections(Poser,Bryce,MojoWorld) I assigned ONE moderator to patrol ALL the free sections. Her name is Aine and she does a great job of keeping an eye on the free section, and possible copyright violations. So it is only after a post has been made that we can do anything about it. we require no pre approval form folks prior to posting free stuff. If I misunderstood you Strudeleinchen I'm sorry. I just wanted to clarify that we at 3DC Do Not"control the files before putting online " Thank all Tom (Hawkfyr) 3DCommune Site Administrator http://www.3dcommune.com

just a quick reminder to folks who have been banned -- you have been banned because you've proven that you cannot follow the simple rules of this community, and have failed, on more than one occassion to modify your behavior after being given a few opportunities to do so. please find someplace else to haunt or at least, something more productive to do with your time. thanks audre

'just a quick reminder to folks who have been banned -- you have been banned because you've proven that you cannot follow the simple rules of this community, and have failed, on more than one occassion to modify your behavior after being given a few opportunities to do so.' okaaay.. question? how does someone thats been banned.. read that message about being banned? I ask, not cos I'm banned, but because of someone on the ISP area I'm on, keeps REPEATEDLY misentering their password and locking out most of Leeds UK! so if a banned person can get round a locked out IP number... why can't I? Kai

Spike ( ) posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 3:35 PM

The way it works right now is when a member is banned, We ban that user name, not the IP. If you are getting locked by the IP falure, it's because someone on your IP is trying to log on and missed their password. We do this lockout to keep scripts from doing a password guess.

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 3:39 PM

is it not possible to find out who this person is at all and, well, just help them not to do this? I've been informed that 68 other ppl come in on this Ip number as well as me. so, surely that person that keeps fluffing up can be found? Kai

Spike ( ) posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 3:53 PM

Wow, your right, About 80 users on that IP. We are working on a better system that should help this out, but this will take some time..

Re: IP addys: Anyone on dial-up, especially in busy ISP's in urban or even widespread areas, are bound to share IP's... DHCP goodness and all that :/ Problem is, even if you ban someone by IP number, they can return again and again via clone if they have dial-up. The only people really hurt by an actual ban are those who have bought or sold stuff here, the ones with the most to lose. Otherwise, your only recourse is to provide IP addy and time of access by someone to their ISP, where logs can suss out who was online at the time, and possibly the ISP may revoke the account if a clear enough case for harrassment is made. /P

thing is, I'm not on a Dial Up.. I'm on a cable modem.. as are the other 80 odd users.. as for the only ppl really hurt.. well I have images in the gallery that are copyrighted to me... I don't like the idea of not being able to access the site I have posted them on.. btw.. shall we start a new thread for this? I think we've hijacked this one... oops! Kai

cooler ( ) posted Fri, 23 August 2002 at 7:19 PM

Kai, many ISPs have gone to dynamic addressing for cable customers as well. IIRC @home was the 1st to do this (before they assumed corporate room temperature that is :-) in order to maximize the use of the IP addresses they were assigned, as well as to make it more difficult for people to run dedicated FTP/FXP servers, which were sucking up disproportionate amounts of bandwidth for a time.

firefly ( ) posted Sat, 24 August 2002 at 3:45 AM

Ya, but the one silly thing about the @home DHCP is that upon IP lease expiry, the same IP is normally re-leased to the same machine. Believe it or not their DHCP assigns back the original IP to the known MAC address :/ Only way to change it is to change NIC cards. I discovered this while trying to troubleshoot some bad routing paths.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Sat, 24 August 2002 at 10:38 AM

Firefly - most DHCP servers operate on the same nominal principle - if your lease expires while you're still online, you get the same IP addy again to avoid mucking up pending TCP sessions (like downloads) and other address-sensitive processes. OTOH, if you shut your machine off and the lease expires while you're still offline, then odds are good that you may get a new addy when you get back online. This is mostly because someone else swiped yours while your machine was 'sleeping' - :) Dial-ups have a faster roll-over, because nobody leaves their phone line tied up 24/7 like DSL and Cable users are apt to do. An interesting tidbit... Sprint Broadband's external modem also has a DHCP server built-in to it (I have one, and DHCP can be disabled and static IP's used instead) It renews the lease every 15 minutes on it's single IP address "scope" (this means you always get the same IP addy.) They do this so that you can use multiple machines, but still comply with their policy of having only one machine access the internet at a time (they can also detect Windows NAT very easily... but not Linux masq and iptables (evil grin) ).

First, I fully understand your point! People shouldn't steal other peoples work and try to sell it! But what I can't understand (maybe this is the worng forum for this?) is why you (not just you, Xena :-)) is why people are selling their stuff, why not give it away free?... Are people really buying things here? Is it art? Then I can understand if you are selling a "final image" depending on the media it's done in. (a bit difficult if it's digital) If it's just a 3d-model I really can't understand it! If it's something that has a value in it self, then keep it, otherwise give it away free!!! (guess I stept on a lot of peoples toes here) .... besides that.... I relly like yor work Xena.... :-)

*"Are people really buying things here?"* Actually, yes. I sell stock photography here that is used as texturing, background imagery, etc. Compared to what professional stock photography would cost you, I'm selling 'em for next to nothing... and unlike most photo houses, I don't demand royalties. Some folks are selling items like wildfire - I buy items I feel will increase my enjoyment in art. After all, have you ever purchased games for either console or Internet use? Folks will lay out $40-50 USD a pop for games they will only play a couple of times then toss to the side. I shell out $20-30 USD on a mesh and I can use it forever in endless combination of situations. /P
