Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
When I opened it back up the first time it froze my computer (first time with this new computer) but after restarting it opened back up fine. So far everything has ran fine for me, its just so much new stuff to learn I imagine thats why we arent seeing a whole lot of renders yet.
Most of this was playing in the face room with Don, I knew thats what I wanted to try first. I had a blast in there I did this one really quickly. The hair is just one of the default dynamic hairs with a few dial turns. And the only part of the manual I have read yet is how to install it and how to save my face/morph I did. I also read Rons post below on how to link to the old runtime folder and so far everything I have loaded from poser 4, including some lights, and mike 2 and textures for mike have loaded fine.
This has no postwork, just wanted to show a quick render. I have a 2ghz with 512mb of ram.
Yes Don is the p5 guy and the face room is where you can change his facial features. That is the default p5 guy texture, it is great. I think he does have short eyelashes but I didnt play much in the material room so I could have something set wrong in there. The lighting is one of my presets from poser 4.
I like the hair, but I do like some of the old styles just as well, I havent played in the hair room except for a few seconds yet either. I cant see myself even attempting 100,000 strands I personally would load up one of the defaults or do my own and then postwork it, but I like postwork. To me I can see how it would be really cool for say hair blowing in the wind, then taken into photoshop or psp for a little postwork on it but havent tried that yet.
Im having company and wont get to play this evening, happens everytime I get new software :) but I can experiment and get a little deeper into it tommorow.
ehrrmm, sorry geep (and redon) but what's so great there? redon said he used raytracing shadows with the firefly but the nose casts no shadows and the nostrils are still lit as they were in poser3. also, there are some transparency issues with the eyebrows, i guess there are upper eyebrows like vicky's, but they seem to have a visible ridge. this glowingmoth engine keeps disappointing me...
Agreed on the nose - I was reading something yesterday by PhoenixRising that indicated that the glowing nostril problem seems to have something to do with the actual shape of the mesh around the nostrils. Hopefully there will be a fix coming out soon - I could have used my "nostril no-glow" props. The lack of shadow under the nose is probably due to the lighting set up. This is Posette, not Vicki or the new P5 woman. I just was running through the tutorial in the manual, which uses Posette. I wouldn't necessarily blame the problems in the render on the render engine - it's more likely operator lack of experience!
The funny thing about Poser 5 for me is that it's a very familiar interface on top of a totally new program. You start to do something that you think you know how to do and then BAM, you run into a wall where you have to learn a brand new thing. This is not bad. It's good. But it requires some work. That's why there haven't been any renders yet. People are busy learning. Shhhhhhhhhhh. People in here are trying to study. --jjsemp
Tim, I used two lights slightly above eyebrow level in the front. If you can post a similar image with raytraced shadows turned on the figure I would appreciate it. If Poser5 has raytraced shadows the nostrils will not glow. It would be impossible for them to do so. Am curious becuase I didn't not think they had included that feature.
I should say, my light preset was coming from the bottom. Its a preset called candlelight. And I didnt use the firefly rendering engine on my render I hadnt read up on it enough so I just went with the p4 render engine because I was used to it. I just did a quick render and posted it when I seen the thread.
