AliasAngel, There are many interesting numbers out there. two examples are 3 point one four(Pi) or 6 point 02 to the minus 23rd power (Avagadro's number) cheers and thanks, - TJ

Avagadro's number? Since when do slimy green fruits have numbers? I'm not familiar with the "Harry" character. It's funny, you said something about making him "mouseier" and I found myself watching him imagining him with big ears. His face and expressions were such that I was dissappointed that I couldn't hear him - I wanted to know what this guy was saying. He doesn't look like a normal Kung Fu teacher so I was intrigued. I would have preferred more motion of his upper right arm but I though the almost unconscious secondary motion of his left hand was a good touch. It added some reality. People never stand 100% still. If you're going to continue with this (I hope so) you could shift his hips just a little from side to side and maybe slowly (and in very small increments) rotate or bend them to give the illusion that he's shifting his weight. This is very nice for a first one. All the things I mentioned are nuances that are for a non-beginner. Bobasaur (I am 7 of 12)

Bob, (He He)Avagadro not avacado. As far as the sound goes I didn't amplify the output enough. My mic is really cheap and I live in an apartment with thin walls so I don't want to get my voice too loud so as not to disturb my neighbors - I'll work on the sound though. If you turn the volume up most of the way you should be able to hear "My name is Harry and I'm gonna teach you ... Kunnng Fu." I like the subtile motion idea, I'll try to impliment that in the next version of Harry or Whoever.Uliimately I'd like to see him breathe as well.(saw a tut on this once using magnets.) This is Gerald Day's character so I won't go further with Kung Fu Harry without his aproval, but if Gerald says it's ok with him I'll continue - otherwise I'll just have to come up with my own old guy. (I've IM'd Gerald so he can see what I've done with Harry so far.) Thanks for the comments. I'll work with them. glad you like Harry, - TJ

If you're really wanting to work with sound you might consider downloading "Pro Tools Free" from the Digidesign website. It's a *fully* functioning version but has a limited number of tracks that can be used (8 audio, 48 MIDI). That number is way too small for a professional Audio suite but for people like us it's excellent.

One of the functions it (and many other audio packages) has is called "normalization." You can apply it to a sound file and it will analyze and then raise the volume of the sound file up to the point just below where clipping (distortion) would occur. It's best when you can record things optimally but this is a wonderful alternative.

You could record and edit a voice track, put music and sound effects behind it, and change the volume of the individual elements as required. You can also equalize (add bass or treble), change the pitch, reduce noise and apply a number of other effects.

I've heard that there are a couple of glitches in the Windows version, but I also know that there are so many PC configurations that nothing works perfectly for everyone. I think that info came from Little_Dragon in another thread and he had something he recommended instead. I know Pro Tools is the "Studio God of Audio" but check around. The voice you use for your characters can have a very dramatic impact on how their personality comes across as well as everything else.

Bob, I've already got Magix Pro(64 tracks video and audio) but it has a steep learning curve I always get lost in it and say arrgh I'll just use cool. For MIDI and Wav songs I've got a prog From Voyetra That I like, but It's a little archaeic and doesn't play well with the other children(wav drivers.) Thanks, I'll give DigiDesign a try - for voice editing 8 tracks should be adequate. A big one is going to be updating my microphone. - TJ

Bob, unfortionately the free software you sugguested doesn't work in XP it's for 98/ME only. Oh well. Right now I'm researching whether I can sue my landlord for harrasment under Ca section 1954 and the quiet something or other this might take a while, but it looks as though I may have a case. She harrasses all the male tenants in the building, repeatedly wants to come in just to be nosy etc I pay my rent and am quiet. perhaps too quiet for her. I guess she thinks I'm up to something. I only wish I were up to something that would get me outta here in a good way. So far I have a form that will threaten lawsuit for illegal entry, and have read that I can place a restraining order on her. Anyway a lot of my time is gonna be tied in with this for a couple of days, but I'll check back if anyone has anything to say regarding sound or whatever. now I wish I were a lawyer, - TJ

I believe Jerr3D is a lawyer but I don't remember what kind. Sorry about the wrong version. TallyJC - do you have anything online I can hear? I'm working with a Korg X3 and a bunch of Yamaha DX-7 generation synths. Mark Of the Unicorn's Digital Performer is my sequencer (it's Mac only so you may not be familiar with it). All of the QuickTime videos at the link have my original music in them.

Bob, I'll get through it. The quiet tenant statute and consructive eviction subsections of Ca. 1954 were very revealing. It appears that if I can prove my claims in a court of law my apt. manager could be in BIG trouble, and not allowed to work in housing/management ever again. So in the words of A.E.Neuman "What me Worry?". The hard part is to get it before a judge that actually believes in tenants rights. Tally, I didn't see the pict the first time. It is obvious that you do not live in an apartment!! Good for you. A nice "Rig" BTW. - TJ

oops I almost forgot. I contacted Gerald and he says DAZ informed him that there may be copyright issues with Harry, so Harry's out of the picture for now. Darn every good idea has a brick wall around it. I'll have to contact DAZ and see what the issue is. I suspect that it's that CR2 thing again. I think it would probably be easier timewise to come up with my own morph, so I'll do that too. I only hope that I am up to it. cheers, - TJ

Bobasaur.... Sorry no I don't have anything for you to hear online. (That is to say I have stuff on reels from before I went digital, but I haven't taken the time to remix - I will have to one day for preservations sake but I never seem to get around to it.) I play english style progressive (like old genesis, yes...etc) But the bands I was in never did make it to completion... So there are tons of pieces with either a missing vocalist, guitarist blah blah. And yes I am familiar with Performer and many of the mac stuff. Mac afterall is still the industry standard using motu and pro tools.... I never did get to mac because I was pretty sure apple was going belly up there for a while...... but I am soo sick to death of Gates bullshit that I may switch soon.... I've been on Cakewalk since the DOS version. I'm on Sonar 1.X Didn't see the need for version 2.... They are starting to lose me as well... if I wanted Sonic Foundry's ACID I would buy it. And Bikermouse.... I do live in an apartment... That's the second bedroom =0)

OS X - at least in theory- should be good for musicians. However the conversion of music apps has been a bit slow. My understanding is that some of the music support (at the system level) has been being introduced slowly through the upgrades. Thus the music app developers haven't been fully able to get their programs up to speed. Digital Performer for OS X has been announced but won't be available till later this year. I keep hearing good things about Sonic Foundry's ACID. Obviously I haven't had a chance to check it out.
