Subject: what do you expect from poser? what do you want to do with it?

okay...tonight, i had time to cruise the galleries. for some reason it reminded me of the 4 years that i worked out of my home, and, had the leisure to run the themes on a few aol graphics lists. i see alot of sameness, guys. kind of like using tubes in psp. now, there is nothing wrong with sameness. look how much money thomas kinkaide...(who i beat a number of years back in a ulead contest....eat your heart out, t.k...lol)has made. how do you feel about realistic comments to your gallery? i.e. this is nice, but here's how i would have done it? i posted a similar comment to someone who i felt could grow, if she applied herself, and, got branded as a troll...well, i hope she enjoys her little limelight thinking she had a troll....actually, i was proud of her being able to grow, and, just pointing her in the next direction....lighting. what do you want out of poser? so many have p5, but, i do not see very many p5 renders in the gallery. is that because p5 sucks, or, you all have not mastered it yet. (it is in my future at work. i will not get it at home because of the eula discrepancies.) who among you want to expand. who wants to make renders of "real" things...not just more vicki's in the temple? which of you is just very happy and satisfied being a consumer, showing off what you bought in market? enquiring poppi wants to know :*)

I want miracles, MIRACLES, I tell ya!! ;) Actually, one of my goals, during the process of transfering my artistic talents from paper and canvas, learning the intricacies of 3D computer graphics, and mastering Poser, is to create nice still artwork in my style (at some stage) as well as do some human animation (which is why my main interest in Poser, believe it or not). Poser 5 is daunting and difficult because of the powerful new features and quirks. It is daunting in the fact that there are now two rendering engines, animatable cloth, animatable and growable hair, and a materials room ten times more complex than in P4. It is difficult due to its slowness, bugginess (for now), and incompatibilities with some P4 additions and support apps. It may be a couple months or more before you start seeing some incredible work showing up in the galleries. There is a steeper learning curve and great renders in P4 cannot be automagically morphed into stupendously awesome renders in P5. Some of the differences will require rework and new methodologies. So the delay of these awaited spectacles stems from both some lack of mastery and some problems with P5. I can tell you this: you will not see "Breasty Vicki in the Temple" on my galleries (when I have something to present). My interests lie in Shogunate Japan and I want to create images and animations towards that interest. Yes, I will use freebie and purchased goodies, but will create whatever fulfills the ends when necessary. Kuroyume

Gee Poppi That's a dificult question. I think what I want is a way that Poser will will make it easier for me to make my art. Because there is so much to think about trying to organise my MP purchases. Tisa xx

Aren't you tired of bringing this up, Poppi? Inquiring minds want to know. =)

Hiya, For now I'd settle for being able to run P5 without the blue screen of death... :( Beyond that I'd like to try making my own figures - I have some cartoon ideas that I'd like to try. Cheers, Bonzai Gopher

I'd like to achieve World Peace. :)

The hair feature is great. Here's my first P5 image:

Of course after I finished and posted it I found a great prop by Awful Soul that would have made better ruins than my sorry attempt with Joes wonderful elements. :)

I'm taking each new feature and am trying to learn a little at a time. Tonight.... I play with cloth. :)

Well, I like poser for the the bendable folks (figures) and some of the really great stuff you can get for really nice prices. I prefer rendering in vue (because I like out of doors scenes), but I want a good platform to manuever a figure(s) into an attractive pose that works with the scene I'm generating elsewhere. Although I am far from it, I do intend on working on some animations now that mover 4 has been released, and that certainly applies to poser. I don't have P5, and am not sure when I'll start planning an upgrade. There are some really great things that I have yet to learn about P4, so perhaps I will wait a while before jumping into the fire. Eric

I used to make a point of posting constructive criticism to images but I found that many people don't like it, so I've largely stopped. I've no problem with recieving it myself.

I expect it to work. I expect it to be able to do more than I am capable of doing, (a bit of a nebulous statement, but there you go :) I have grown to expect that unless I treat it with kid gloves, in certain instances it (P4) wiil either randomly delete objects or just lock-up on me. I want to build the "perfect" woman, (or a close approximation thereof :) then render her wearing very little, preferably sans sword and temple :) But if that's your fetish go for it... :P But seriously folks... I'm a hobbyist, not an artist, I like to tweak, I have all these Images in my head which Poser lets me put "on paper" (metaphorically speaking :) If was as simple to add Vick to Temple and sword, and achieve perfect results everytime, it'd be very dull. Part of the fun for me is getting a recalcitrant program to give me what I want. I'm Just hoping that P5 will work on the box I bought for it. Now if only somebody would sell me 1Gb of RAM I'd be laughing :) later jb

Me, I generally want to make pictures of my story characters and SoulBonds. My drawing ability isn't what I'd like it to be and I lack the patience and dedication to develop it, but I can usually strongarm Poser into doing what I want. Maybe someday I'll do a story in sequential art if I get inspired.

Oops, forgot my feelings on constructive critique. CONSTRUCTIVE I like, but remember that includes saying what's right as well as what's wrong. Just coming in and tearing apart the flaws isn't as helpful; let me know what foundation to build on as well.

Actually the last 5 or 6 images I have posted are all from P5. Some using the firfly render engine a few with a standard P4 engine. Since there isn't really a good deal of poser5 content available and since there is a ton and a half of poser4 stuff. I suspect it will be a while before what P5 can be will be seen. Some the new features are not as easy to use as ppeople thought they would be. some items not working at all. other needing tweaking before they look the way they did in p4. So I would say that for the most part ppl are still tinkering with what P5 does and how it does it. And since a nude and 25 spotlights will alweays look like a nude and 25 spotlights, the differences will not be very much. I personally try to tell stories and illustrate with poser. and create beliveable characatures of humans and others. still it's a hobby and what I do is largely dismissed as trash since i am not one of the annointed ones that seem to use characters and props like kleenex, one use and you never see those again. I would suspect that untill ppl attempt to do more with characters and or try to create their own instead of buying and using other peoples, folks are not going to feel a connection to thier creations, and treat it all as a instant gradification thing, and never get any more than they get now. IMHO
