When the cows come home.

No, no. They specifically said when pigs fly. :) I'm sure that they are working on it diligently, but there are a lot of loose ends to tie up on the Windows version. So, don't expect it anytime this year. Kuroyume

I'm pretty sure it's when monkeys fly out of my ass.

The CL site still says an anouncment in "autum" - of course when autum is in Santa Cruz I don't know :-)

stallion ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 1:23 PM

I wouldn't think they will release it until they get the PC version straighten out or else be carefull what you ask for or you will get it Then we will have a whole new platform of gripes and complaints of how P5 is not what they said it is SO best advice is let them sort out the PC version then I am sure the MAC version will follow hopefully bug free

You might as well PAY attention, because you can't afford FREE speech

MissMellyMel ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 1:32 PM

LOL I guess I'm not the only one who is starting to get bitter about being short changed. You know... Poser runs better on a Mac anyway (at least it runs better on my mac :P)

xvcoffee ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 2:33 PM

Should they have worked on the MAC version first?

MissMellyMel ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 2:54 PM

well... it would have been good if they started on it at the same time.... Photoshop updates for mac and pc are released at the same time are they not?

xvcoffee ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 3:01 PM

Photoshop is a bit more solvent than CL

nnuu ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 3:19 PM

thats what im sick of......always seeing the pc version out before the mac.....wether it be bug free or not.,.....its one of the reasons i switched from mac to pc....i still work with macs at home and at work.....but i was tired of seeing the lack of selection for a computer thats twice as much as a pc......sure they run great ...the look beautiful ..... but with the extra cash i can rack up my ram....and even get a few apps ....and parts are waaay more affordable ......and my pc is running great ....my mac at home has become my tv and scanning computer ...i dont mean to start a flame of mac vs pc.....i have both now so im not really complaining too much nnuu

Mosca ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 3:39 PM

I've pretty much made up my mind not to bother w/ P5, when/if they ever get around to releasing the Mac version. I'm inclined to spend the money on Vue instead.

xvcoffee ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 3:40 PM

Aside from Mimic and Poser 5 could someone anyone tell a newbi what else has been out on PC first preceding a long wait for the MAC one. Please dont say 3dsMAX since Ive allready put that question and no-one sems interested in that app one this platform. Im intersted in actual applications where there is no MAC equivialent, ie PS or Mimic.

Hiram ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 5:22 PM

Umm, I dunno what you mean by PS, but Mimic is available for Mac.

It's unfortunate that some graphic and 3D software creators put the MAC versions on the back burner. The assumption is that there are more PCs out there so there's more money to be made by putting out the PC version first. However, I wonder just how many PC owners are buying graphic and 3d software. The majority of the PCs I would think are used in the business world for spreadsheet, Word type stuff. The MAC community has always had a reputation for its stability and performance in the graphic world. So again I wonder, when you look at the number of PC vs MAC graphic app consumers, is the gap in numbers as great. I don't know if I'm making myself clear. So, I'll try to clarify by this example...(the numbers are just to make a point) if there are 1,000, 000 PC owners and 25,000 MAC owners...but only 20,000 PC owners are buying graphic and 3D software while 15,000 MAC owners are doing the same, the gap in numbers is not so great. Does anyone know any actual specs here?

jerr3d ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 6:50 PM

I wouldn't say I bought Vue4 for Mac instead of Poser5 for Mac. But I did get Vue 4 to tide me over til Poser5 is realeased for Mac. It imports Pz3 files with the textures, renders transpancys, does reflections, has nice water, (like Bryce4 -don't have Bryce5). But it does crash Alot! They do release updates to try and fix the problems. And it only runs under OS X. Despite the problems I would recommend Vue, but it is not a stable as Poser4!

Mosca ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 7:15 PM

You can import P4/Mac pz3s directly into Vue4? Really?

jerr3d ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 7:26 PM

Yep Mosca you can, but Vue really does crash alot. I save constantly. Still the render engine is very nice. You can go to e-on's site and download the demo. But the demo won't import pz3 files.

All I use Poser for nowadays is to set up the pose of the figures, import them into Cinema 4D, build the rest of the environment/set there and render using radiosity. It is inconvenient having to use Poser in Classic instead of Mac OS X, but I can live with it. I'm hopeful that Daz's mystery 3D app will turn out better than P5 and be available for OS X.

brewman ( ) posted Fri, 01 November 2002 at 9:15 AM

I just bought Cinema 4DXL7 (and am anxiously waiting for it to arrive!) to tide me over until P5 comes out. Can't wait to see how Cinema's rendering compares to LW 7.5 on my Mac.

MissMellyMel ( ) posted Fri, 01 November 2002 at 10:05 AM

Where can I find information on Daz's Mystery App???

Kosmokrat ( ) posted Fri, 01 November 2002 at 10:34 AM

Sorry, brewman, but it looks like I have to disapoint you: It looks like you won't be getting Cinema 4DXL 7! Good news: You will get R8 XL bundle instead! (It looks like Maxon started shipping of R8 just now, and as you said, you just bought it, so you will get the free update, therefore my guess is, Maxon will be shipping only R8 from now) :-)

{The CL site still says an anouncment in "autum" - of course when autum is in Santa Cruz I don't know :-) } Ah-ha! The actual release date of Poser 5 for the Mac: "autumn"! As we all know, Santa Cruz (and all of Southern California) never experiences what we call "autumn" or "fall". It is warm year-round! Autumn never comes to that part of the country... so, Poser 5 for the Mac will never come! Then again, with all the problems in the PC version, do you Mac users really want it??

rtamesis ( ) posted Fri, 01 November 2002 at 2:07 PM

Winter officially starts in December, so technically, P5 for the Mac should come out no later than this month November. Given all the nasty bugs in the Win version, however, I think it's safe to say that P5 for the Mac will remain as vaporware for the forseable future.

jerr3d ( ) posted Fri, 01 November 2002 at 3:41 PM

Well the CL site does not say that Poser will be out in autmn, it says the announcement will be made in autmn.

xvcoffee ( ) posted Fri, 01 November 2002 at 4:10 PM

Technically rtamesis, winter starts on 21th December the day of winter solstice. Autumn and Spring start on the Equinox when the sun crosses the horizon and the days are equal length, and Summer is June 23rd when all those hippies come out and dance around Stonehenge. (Heh that gives me an idea) To split hairs even further, didnt Poser 5 come out about September 5, weeks before the date mentioned for its release? (... and no, that idea was for a Poser work, not anything else)
