Subject: The Loft is open at daz

Just noticed it's up and running.

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

whbos ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 8:40 PM

I just noticed it. Mostly old items, and they don't explain the purpose of the Loft either. Everything is at a discount though. I wish they'd put all the old items in there at discount like some things I don't have. Most of the items in the Loft I already bought.

We will be putting up a much better description on the loft tomorrow. Basically the loft is a way to bring more attention to products that previously we some of our best sellers (like the dragon) but have become less visable over time. The discount given on most products put into the loft is 50% for an introductory period and then will settle in at a permanent discount of about 35%. This is basicially the gist of what it is about. We do plan to sort of go with the flow with this store and continue to add additional products to it. Dan Farr

hey Dan, thanks for all the lower pricing of the goodies. :) Is it working out for you? People were buying your stuff before... so the change in business model seemed a bit of an unnecessary risk.

AprilYSH, Pricing is always a scary issue for us. We never really know for sure what the best price for products should be but try to make our best estimates. We have mentioned in the past that as the market and customer base grows, then our ability to price things lower is improved. Hopefully we are not ahead of the market in our pricing structures and that we have not taken an unnecessary risk. If people react positively to lower prices then we can continue to lower them over time:) Dan Farr

So cool. Let's all think (and react) positively :)

danfarr ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 9:19 PM

I just noticed that the Loft description is already up. If you scroll your mouse over the i with the circle around it on the home page (to the left of store towards the top of the page) you will get the description of the different stores. Dan Farr

Oh yeah, we definitely are reacting very positively. I was just wondering why cut your profits when you didn't have to, we were handing over money quite happily. Now we're even happier... hahaha :) It seems a fully altruistic move which is uncommon for a business, relatively speaking of the manner of businesses we have gotten used to! Thanks again and hope you succeed for my own cc's sake!!! :D

Actually it makes good business sense. Like Dan said, products that start getting lost on the back pages become more visible again. Also, when a customer saves money on one product they're also likely to take some of that savings and buy something else. At least I know I do. :) Also, there might be customers who didn't buy a product because maybe they thought the price was a little to dear for their budget, now decide to buy it at its discounted price. So in this instance, sales increase. Anyhow, off to the loft to see what's there. :D

Part of the reason they lowered their prices is so guys like me who don't have a lot of money will start buying more things. At least 75% of what I've bought from Daz has been since joining the Platinum Club.

Please keep the 50% for a bit...I've used up all my credits on the Platinum Club..but see quite a few items in the loft that I passed on before, but will surely buy now.

Between the Platinum Club, the RDNA Anniversary Sale and the sale at Poser Pros, I'm wiped out financially for this paycheck....Have Mercy! Lyrra ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 12:38 AM

So is the loft price reduction further reduced by the plat club reduction? broke artists want to know :)

MachineClaw ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 1:14 AM

Appears that Club does lower the price on Loft stuff. example: Bass model is regularly $24.95, Loft discounted is $12.47, and login with Club n go to Loft and it's $8.73. Was hoping for more from the Loft, why not just throw these items in the regular store and discount them, aditional models show up in the store all the time. oh well bummed by content paradise in Poser 5, and kinda bummed about Loft. oh well.

Bobcat ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 2:53 AM

Hi, I'm Bob and I'm a Poser addict........... I never spent so much time rooting around at DAZ before, you folks are evil! Huge Grin My credit card company called me the other day to see if the increased activity on my card was me or it had been stolen- LOL! I told them to be expecting more charges from there in the future!

MadYuri ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 3:15 AM

So the Loft is kinda like the Renderosity Warehouse...

timoteo1 ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 3:35 AM

Thanks, Dan and DAZ ... looks promising.

What kills you though is seeing something you bought a while ago at full price (for example the "Male Motions" @49.95, now $1.99). But the REAL kick in the pants comes when you realize you have never used them. Arrggh, weep-weep.

Orio ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 6:07 AM

Is it effective for sure! I for instance never knew there was a matador clothing pack for Michael. And I surely visit DAZ regularly.

pdxjims ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 6:49 AM

Interesting, but it doesn't do me much good. I got all the things I wanted there a long time ago. About the only thing I don't have, but sorta want, is the Matador clothing for Mike. Of course, I'll check it every day the way I do the rest of the Daz site. Ya never know when you'll find a great new addition. Some of the stuff in the Loft would be better in the Platinum Club. They're just too specialized or there are freebies would do just as well. The fish comes to mind. I might give $1.99 for it, but it just isn't something I'd want to spend anything more on. There are plenty of other fish models out there for free.

xoconostle ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 1:02 PM

OK, so now I WILL buy the matador outfit without having a bull to go with it. :-) Fantastic idea (and frankly, what a lot of us had predicted/hoped for.) I figured they couldn't put ALL of the older stuff up for $1.99 each. These discounts are great. Thanks, Dan & DAZ!

lordbyron ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 1:38 PM

Dang it! I knew I should have d/l'd the male motions pack last night for $1.99. Now it's no longer in the Plat. Club stuff. A mistaken inslusion, I'm sure. But a mistake I COULD have capitalized on. Dang my circumspection! --lb

Orio ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 1:54 PM

anyone knows if the male and female motions are compatible with the Millennium figures?

xoconostle ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 2:01 PM

Orio, you might try asking DAZ directly. I tried using some .bvh files intended for Posette (found at a Japanese site...sorry, don't remember which) on Vicky ... yikes! Physically impossible contortions galore, too many to correct in the graph editor. I wouldn't know about the DAZ motions, though. Anyone else?

Lyrra ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 3:10 PM

I'd be very interested in seeing more support for the less well known figures that have now hit the Loft and Plat club. The Centaur, Nude Young Woman and so one would be much more popular if there was more stuff for them (textures, morphs, etc.) BTW anyone who does buy the NYW should get a PWFW membership, as they have many clothing items and textures for her.

Mosca ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 6:40 PM

I'm I the only one that's underwhelmed?

MadYuri ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 6:48 PM

I'm kinda surprised that nobody else found the interesting blooper in the Loft...

danfarr ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 11:27 AM

MadYuri, I hope that the blooper in the Loft that you are referring to is the fact that Platinum Club discounts are applied on top of the Loft discount. Effectively people are able to get about 65% off of the regular prices if they pick up the items during the intial 50% off period. We'll if this is the case then it is not a blooper but something that will continue to be a benefit of the store. Dan Farr

MadYuri ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 12:05 PM

Nope... the price cut is nice, but it is not what I meant...

duanemoody ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 1:16 PM

Dan, I might be stupid or something, but if DAZ is exclusively Poser content, who is the market for the Nude Young Woman and the Conforming Curls that we all got with P4? These models made sense for sale back when Zygote was selling P4 content in non-Poser formats, but... (and I can't remember if the wolf is also base P4 content or something DAZ included on a bonus content disc)

RHaseltine ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 1:22 PM

NYW isn't base P4, and maybe some of the people with freebie Poser 3s will make the other items their first steps on the primrose path....

duanemoody ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 1:30 PM

Sorry, I thought that NYW's .CR2 was P4 and not P3 (since she can wear conforming clothes and P3 figures cannot). Still, it would be nice if the DAZ site had the same disclaimers the old Zygote site did about figures that already come with certain software packages, don't need to buy this, yada yada yada...

MadYuri ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 2:07 PM

Hehe, NYW in a temple...

@ duanemoody: There are still several Zygote people in other 3D programs, for example Cinema 4D has Posette and Dork. But with Cinema 4D R8 come some really nice non Zygote/DAZ people too.
