Thread: Texture question about Vue 5 infinite | Forum: Vue
An objext proximity node would have been infinitely more useful than distance to object below.

With Carrara, you get stability. With Vue, you get better output. I have yet to be impressed with a single Cararra render. They ALL look blah next to Vue. And remember, your art can only get as good as the weakest link.

Thank you for that breakdown! So true ambient is off until we hit Radiosity...it's faked in General, GA, and GI? So in essense it IS like MicroStation rendering. Ambient is faked until you hit Particle Tracing rendering method (aka Radiosity).

Thread: Vue textures - I've gotta ask this. | Forum: Vue
To me, the fact that radiosity requires MORE ambient light makes no sense to me. Now, if I understand correctly, it calculates bounced light. So direct light should be bouncing and illuminating surfaces not facing the sun. Is ambient light not just a standard uniform brightness? Thusly, with more ambient light, wouldn't that lighten the dark areas uniformally? I ask cause it seems to be the exact OPPOSITE of MicroStation rendering.

Thread: * * * January Challenge is open * * * | Forum: Vue
Why is the size limitation so small? 800 pixels is not a lot of area to work with and in a challenge such as this, where we're working quite possibly in a grand scale, I'll lose so much detail in going to that size. Just curious, is there a reason why we limit it to 800x600?

It would never be a problem. I have ZERO interest in building an all purpose site demanding as this. This is for the benefit of us.

Arg. That last link would work but you have to pay to get anything of decent size.

Thread: VueRealism.Com - a general question | Forum: Vue
Help site, NOT for pay and also NO standard forum for standard questions. I and mods would be the only ones able to post new topics. We dont need another general forum. This one does the job perfect. I do however feel we need a resource site as the Backroom, while sometimes helpful, is outdated in many of it's tuts and links.

Where is this ecowear collection? All I see is the fashions he created for Bryce.

Ok, here's a seperate, but related question. How do maps like that work if the element is NOT a square or rectangular in shape. Since image files are rectangular in nature, how can one accurately apply this same technique to a non uniform shape?

Try reimporting your geometry. I had a similar "blue spot" problem that went away after I reimported.

All you can do to prevent hackers is use of a dongle. Try and see how many full working versions of VRay are out there for dl... None.

Thread: Vue 4, indoor lighting, comments | Forum: Vue
Something like this is on my todo list. I'm trying to max out Vue's rendering realism here. What I'll eventually do is take an excellent 3d room done in Max and try to recreate the effects in a WIP on this forum. Then I'll put it all on PDF and use it as a tutorial for interior lighting...very comprehensive. First though, I'm working on a backyard with a pool, trying to achieve a great lawn and foliage. It may be a WIP here as well.
