FWIW,
I have similar issues with Jessi if there is more than one figure in the file even if they have been renamed. Something that seems to fix it, sometimes, is to save the file, close Poser, reopen Poser and then reload the file. This seems to straighten out the lists and get things selecting properly again. I contacted eF over a week and a half ago with no response or even an acknowledged receipt of the email, so I'm not holding my breath for an answer, but perhaps this will help solve your problem.

As it turns out, it is simply a matter of "crossdressing." Each of the "actors" ( aka, Body Parts) is followed by a definition of the groups making up that actor:
actor Pelvis:1
{
storageOffset 0 0 0
geomHandlerGeom 13 Pelvis
}
It was simply a matter of changing the actor name to the Jessi body part, but leaving the hippo group definition alone:
actor hip:1
{
storageOffset 0 0 0
geomHandlerGeom 13 Pelvis
}
This is why a global search & replace did not work because it changed every entry. I had to manually do the changes and then all the meshes came in & the pose file loaded properly.
The Hippo Danceth!
I'll still have to make changes to the Animation Palette, but at least all of my "actors" are now on stage.
Many thanks to noelr for the answer to this puzzle! And thanks to everyone else who responded as well. They are all good ideas and there's always more than one way to solve a problem like this!

Thanks for the replies! I guess the one thing I'm not really clear on is that If by the meshfile you are referring to the hippo.obj file, I did load that into Notepad, but there were no names listed. It was more like:
v 12345 -67890 99965 etc
vt -12345 -66666 77755 etc
So I'm not sure what I'm supposed to rename...???
PhilC:
That was my next thought, but I couldn't get WinZip to recognize/unzip the *.p2z file to get it into a text editor...?

I think you'll find that the scene at the end of #1 is somewhat important...

While the Wiki version is technically correct, it truly loses something in the translation. The actual scene starts with the cannibal painted like a skeleton dancing his dance, the others are dancing and beating the drums as we pan past them to reveal the dog sitting proudly on the throne with the King Hat on his head and a huge bone in his mouth. It is drop dead funny because you have been away from that location for so long and the memory of Jack's looming fate when he sat there comes flooding back to contrast with the regal posture of the dog blissfully unaware of his future.

Actually, I'd be totally bummed if they took anything out of Poser. I use the Face Room all the time.

Thread: render size for TV? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Bobasaur,
Thanks for the techspecs!
I guess I was close enough at 848 x 480 (not 486) that the missing 16 pixels aren't noticed. I won't have to go back and re-render my 8-sec intro that took 31.5 hrs to output. Phew! I was scared there for a minute!! LOL!
Ciao,

As long as we're at it, what about HD/16:9 widescreen format? I've been rendering @ 848 x 486 and ingesting into the Avid and it seems right, but, if there's something I should know before I go any further with this project, I'd appreciate it!
TIA,

Thread: Poser virtual fashion registration | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
you should have received an email with a link to Reyes-Infografic. when you go there, you register with a username & password & enter that long series of numbers from e-frontiers. They will then send you the activation code which you enter into VFBfP.

Thread: What criticisms of Poser are valid? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
IMHO,
I believe Poser uses an Interpreted language as opposed to one where everything is compiled. As a result, while it is easy to access the descriptions of figures, props, etc and even make changes in a simple text editor, this results in extremely slow software processing because every line of text code must be parsed every time something is changed. As more complexity is added to a scene, it slows down interaction so much that it soon becomes unworkable.
Herein lies the biggest stumbling block for most users. While there is an immense amount of capability in the program, I am convinced that most of it remains untapped because the more you do, the slower it becomes. Dynamic hair, dynamic clothing, hi poly count figures, multiple light sources and all of the other techniques that would greatly improve the artistic look simply become too unwieldy to use.
And this is only in the preview phase. Once rendering begins, there are additional orders of magnitude to contend with to achieve any semblance of " realism." How many folks are willing to dedicate their computer to 20 or 30 hrs worth of rendering time per frame to see if they are happy with the results or want to make changes.
My guess is that most "Poser Art" looks that way because, in the trade off between art and time, the majority, of necessity, are opting for the latter.

Thread: DIY Motion Capture for Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Sorry if I'm coming at this totally out of left field, but you might try a different camera setup. Directly overhead looking down, horizontally from the front, horizontally from the left and 45-degrees from the upper right should provide complete coverage of the space with fewer cameras, less data to process and a less expensive system.
Overall though this is a very exciting and promising endeavor.
Years ago I created a program for the Bronx Veterans Administration Hospital spinal cord injuries department and was heavily into Virtual Reality technology. Data Gloves provided the ability to manipulate the virtual worlds for those that had some dextrous capabilites and IR tracking technology enabled quadraplegics to move a cursor across the screen just by moving their head while a "puff & sip" tube provided left & right mouse clicks so they could play chess, checkers or even a rudimentary game of tennis (for those of you who may remember REND386). I always felt that there was a therapeutic place for a mocap system to provide a form of visual feedback of limb position for those who couldn't derive that feedback from the nervous system directly. At that time, mocap technology like "Flock of Birds" was pretty slow, extremely expensive and really glitchy. Primarily due to the extreme cost of the systems we were never able to implement that part of the program.
Perhaps your work will finally be able to bring this capability to some of those who have given so much to their country.
Keep up the good work and please keep me informed of your progress.
Regards,

Just out of curiosity, does anyone actually ever get red keyframes?? I end up with various shades of green, some lighter, some darker, but have never seen a red one, like the manual states they should be.
