there is no way that i have found to get the file back once you close it.
i have been able to undo a major OOPS! of "saving" a file when i meant to do a "save as", but that only works if you have not closed the file.
REVERT won't work cause that just brings you to the last save and that's what the problem is.
What i did was to go back in the HISTORY of the file to "undo" the save - the trade off was that i lost the work that i just did. but that was better than losing the original file...
it would be nice to find an alternative...

Thread: need to reinstall CS2 -no disc! | Forum: Photoshop
yeah, you need to contact Adobe, and "deactivate" your version of PS (which should appear in Adobes' database as being ready to be activated again). but i would DEFINITELY contact Adobe first and explain your predicament .
hope it helps

Thread: Question about working between Photoshop CS3 and CS4. | Forum: Photoshop
Should be fine as .psd is the native file format for Photoshop... you will have brush issues as you can't use CS4 brushes in CS3 (or any downward versions...) but if i do remember there was an option to "maximizing compatibility..." in the preferences. this is to allow the layered PSD file be used in other programs and earlier versions of PS.
i never really had to use it but if you want to try saving both methods and see if you have any problems.
bear in mind, saving with the "compatibility" option increases your file size by a bit.
hope it helps,
scott
Thread: Buy older version of Photoshop | Forum: Photoshop
besides getting the actual OEM discs of PS you need to be sure the Serial Number has been released and transfered to you.
I know people who got the discs fine but found they had bought from an individual who upgraded and were still using the serial numbers (on versions of PS before implementing the "activation" process, you could install PS but it would still be considered warez without the SN registered to you)

Thread: Werid question/need... Export all layers to files - with two layers in each | Forum: Photoshop
this might take a little time but what i'd do is make a LAYER COMP out of each layer...
what i mean is i'd select a layer plus the background and make it LAYER COMP ONE, turn off the one layer and select the next layer and make that LAYER COMP TWO, ... do this for each set, then go under the FILE menu - to SCRIPTS - select LAYER COMPS TO FILE. PNG is not an option but you could keep them as PSDs and make a quick ACTION to save them as a PNG.
let me know if you want more details (like screen shots...)

Thread: How do you make a jps file? | Forum: Photoshop
well according to : http://ephehm.com/jps/
you can use pretty much ant editor
Q) How do I make JPS files?
A) If you already have stereo pair pictures, you're almost there. If you don't, there are several good tutorials out on the Internet on how to produce them photographically or in a program that you can use to render 3D drawings.
Once you have your stereo pair, you need to combine the two images into a single JPG file. It's best if you keep the files in some lossless format like TIFF, PNG or BMP while you are working on them and convert them to JPG at the very end.
Open your bitmap editor, almost any will do. Create a new drawing that is as tall as your pictures and twice as wide. Import the right eye image and paste it on the left side. Paste your left eye image on the right side. Save the resultant image. Rename it with a JPS extension and you have it. Open your file up in a JPS viewer and admire your handiwork.
....
i guess the big test is to see what it looks like in a viewer
hope this helps.

Thread: Creating fallen snow on rocks and ground | Forum: Photoshop
how thick do you want the snow? heavy snowfall blanketing the ground with bits and pieces of rock exposed? or a light dusting with patches of warmer areas exposed?
i usually do everything by hand with some masked areas on different layers to expose the underlaying surface (rock and ground), this way i can move the masks around till i lie what i see. when you use the eraser to expose the ground you're stuck with it (because you actually remived the pixels). it's best to experiment in non-destructive ways.
can you post a part of the image? maybe i can take a shot at it and post an explanation.

Thread: Gradients In PhotoShop - creating? | Forum: Photoshop
i've use a gradient MASK over an image to exposed the underlying layer (it was one of those "passed away" friend looking down from above kind of image...) so you can use the gradient tool in some creative ways to come up with most effects you're looking for.

Thread: looking for footprints of astronauts brushes or at least how to create these. | Forum: Photoshop
your best bet is to have a wire frame of them done in a 3d program and add a texture to them - this is the only way i am able to pull something like this off when i need the flexibility to rotate (change direction/orientation) the object...
other wise you'd have to make a brush for each foot, and each direction/variation...
hope it helps to point you in the right direction.

Thread: Backgrounds | Forum: Photoshop
if you don't want to go the "plug-in" route (like MaskPro or KnockOut) then CHANNELS is the way to go. there's a easy to follow tut on the subject over at Planet Photoshop
see if it is helpful. it might point you in the right direction...
good luck

Thread: Help with transparency please. | Forum: Photoshop
you do have to "check" the TRANSPARENCY check box in the save dialog box. (you need to do this through the "save-for-web" NOT "save-as") when selecting PNG.
see example:
hope it helps
