Unfortunatly the answer I have is to use another program like Bryce or Vue to do this render. It is almost esential to have a program that does something in the way of fog, or volumetrics (particles in the air or in your case water) for an underwater scene. I'm sure it is somewhat possible in Poser, but I assume that it would be a diffucult task to get it just right. One way would be to put several planes with varing amounts of transparency (somone long ago did a water obj that used this) but you end up with a banding effect. To really get the depth of an underwater scene another program would make the task much easier, and I think you'd be happier with the end results. Remember, Poser is not a Raytracing program. Again you might also experiment with different planes and put different depth scenes on them again with transparency. But this is speculation on my part, as I do have several other programs that I'd use to make an underwater scene. I hope this isn't to depresing an answer. I have seen some very talented people here do some amazing things within Poser that one may have thought impossible. James
Thread: Size does matter | Forum: Bryce
The problem was with the DEM it's self. Until I got a good one the information just wasn't there. So no matter what you tried to do , you couldn'd tweak the greys. the DEMs I finally found have enough info and resolution to create beautiful scenes. But that's really not the point ;-) The point, is that making sure the "GRID" is as high as possible that your machine can handle, and apply the procedural texture "after" scaling the terrain up to a very large size. This way the figure looks like he's on something other than great big splotches of color. Thanks for the URLs though. I can always use more in my arsonal. James

I gave up, when the upgrade kept giving me a out of memorey error importing obj, 3ds and other formats. I don't know who screwed around with the importers, but they should have left well enough alone. I've gone back to 4.0 with the old Metacreations logo ;-) But I'm willing to try again if they can tell me that this major BUG has been fixed. James

It's still not to pricy compared to several of the other 3D models at other sites. Viewpoint sells a simple hard hat for $90. I know that $200.00 is a lot to some people, but really, compare that to other model prices around and it's cheap. If you're begining with Poser, the standard models are fine. There are lots of free morphs and items for them. When you decide you want more detail and find that the standard models aren't enough, save up some money and get the Victoria and Michael models. They aren't nessassery to enjoy Poser. But they are nice to have. James
Thread: BodyPaint3d | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It is available for the MAC. I got a Free demo CD at the MAC Expo last week. It has a stand-alone for Body Paint, which as I just took a look, it is Cinema 4D without the Cinema tools. It looks a bit daunting, but maybe a useful program. Deep Paint (is it for the MAC also?) is a program written exclusivly for its purpose. So I'd say it might be a better bet to go with (even for the extra money). But as a low cost solution BP may be the way to go. In my experience you really need a lot of ram and a powerful machine to make these programs work the way they're intended. To get any detail you must have a model on the screen at a large size to be able to really get into those tight spots. Painter 3D (or whatever the freebie that came with Poser was) was useless. For it only allowed a tiny model on wich to paint. And I have a powerful computer. James

Visit the Eovia site for more information. eovia.com LOL, smallspace. Read the topic headline. This is about Carrara, not Amorphium, even though the main focus of the link is about Amorphium *giggle* I had to really look to the bottom of the page to find the tiny 2 paragrah bit on Carrara. But the Eovia URL seems hopeful for those of us who own carrara.Thread: Another ... wish I were a book illustrator | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yes, all done in Bryce 4, with a tiny bit of PhotoShop (adding the path) I wanted to do some volumetrics, but it was just taking too long to render :-( It also made a really cool QTVR (QuickTime VR movie) I'll see if I can get away with posting that too. It's only about 250k. James

I realize that Jeff, but think of this as starting a NEW trend. I'm always looking at breaking tradition where I can ;-) As I said, it was something I have no idea why I even took the time to do. Maybe it'll catch on?. ;-) James

Steve, Wish I knew where to have found you at the Expo, but alas it was a tremndous event. I would have loved to have shaken your hand ;-) Good to know at least that you were indeed there. And hope you got lots of new ideas to make Poser even better. James PS: Even though I got lots of new toys, I still keep coming back to my old favorites. Poser, Bryce and Infini-D Animation Studio 2000 will be nice, if they can handle 3ds import better. I want to take advantage of the great extras like dust and such in the renderer but also have the quality of imported Poser figures. And Z-Brush is just kool, I don't know what I'll be doing with this. ;-)

I have indeed thought of the Tolkien-like (avoiding law suit giggle) package. Unfortunatly a for sale package, not a freebie. The first package I thought would be the Gandalf-like package. Including: P4 head morphs, Texture map (including beard texture for Zygote's beard), Wizard hat, and wizard items. Also including a Wizardess headdress and other items to make the package worth buying. But you're right I should include my Frodo-like, and Galadriel-like morphs and maps too. I also did a pretty good Golum-like figure. I hope to get the time to do this in the very near future. James
