The learning curve for Poser is pretty smooth, and not too steep. If you run into any major problems you can't deal with, we're here to help. To modify a character to look like a specific person is quite a task, and is usually done using morph targets (OBJ files that modify the underlying mesh). Visit Traveler's M.orph W.orld 2.0 for more morphs than you can shake a very big stick at. (Link is on the right-hand side of this page) Unfortunately, you can't convert a scanned picture into a 3d mesh just yet. What you can do, however, is build a texture map based on the scanned images and apply it to your morphed and modified figure. Paul

You should be able to run Poser on that without to much hassle, although it may choke if you attempt to load too many figures. (As an addendum to Allerleirauh's advice: Always get as much RAM as you can in the best computer you can afford) Paul

Some of the more useful utilities can be downloaded right here from the free stuff page (UV Mapper, OBJ Scaler, OBJ Mover). If you're going to create your own texture maps, you're going to need an art package. Something that works with layers is best - the new version of PSP (V6 I think), or Photoshop (expensive) or Painter 6. If you plan to make your own props or figures, you'll need a 3D modelling programme. Nendo and Amorphium are nice "organic" modelling programmes. Rhino is superb with a fairly flat learning curve. The there's the Mayas and 3D Studios (very very very expensive). For backgrounds you can't do much better than Bryce 4. For animation, both Poser and Bryce can create animated output (check in the 3D animation forum for other choices) Hope this has been useful - but these are just pointers and you'll find many other options put forward. Paul

I'm running a PII 400Mhz with 128Mb RAM, Riva TNT video card and have had no problems (so far) running Poser 4. I've run under both NT and WinDoze98 OS. Paul

I use Netscape V3.0 here at work to access the forum, and the nice shiney new one (V4.7??) at home. And I've never had any problem with either. Paul

I don't know if de-dorkify is a word but, if it isn't, it should be. And you, along with the others who've posted textures for the P4 dor... erm male, have gone a very long way towards doing that. You're right about the hair. Traveler has some morphing hair on his site that go a long way towards improving things. Paul

There are also some on Greylight International's site (these come with spears/swords and shields) as well as some fighting type poses for them. Links for both of these can be found in the Web Resources section on the right Paul

Traveler also has a very impressive winged skeleton on his site - M.orph W.orld 2.0 - under the characters section Paul

I'm not 100% certain what you mean here Anthony. Do you mean the nude male figure that appears as a default figure when Poser 3 has started? It's been quite a while since I've used P3 (it came off of my system about a week after P4 went on) but I seem to recall that it's just the standard P3 nude male. If I've got the wrong end of the stick, and you mean a different figure, let me know Paul

I've got a couple of poses for that (I think). I'll have a look and find them then post them over on the free stuff pages. Paul
