everyone is entitled to an opinion.
i have been using DS since DS 1.7, right up to DS3A ( last version) only started using Poser last year, primarily as a beta tester for products. so i have plenty of experience with DS.
nowhere did i bring 'quality of software' into the discussion.
no other 3D software i know of, as multiple updates through out the year.
if an app needs a few bugs sorting, the maker issues a service release ( which does not entail having to download the entire app everytime).
as a matter of fact, i have been very happy with DS, up to DS4 ( which in my opinion is a POS)
but my liking of the app does not blind me to its shortcomings, or the shortcomings of the company that produces it.

sorry, DS is in a perpetual beta state. there has never been a finished version, with possibly 2 or 3 service packs to iron out a few bugs, then a full new version every couple of years.
you don't see numerous updates throughout the year for other 3D apps, there may be a point release or a service pack or 2, but not rejigged versions that means you have to re-download the entire app.
personally, i don't think that DAZ3D have ANY programmers capable of coding a service pack that can be installed into the core app.

amount of ram available has little if no effect on render times. render time is dependant on render settings etc and primarily, how fast and efficient the cpu is, as rendering is pure CPU . ( unless you are doing low quality hardware renders, which depends on the GPU)

did some research into the 2 new characters, both come from the world of Venture capitalism.
read into that what you will. :)
Thread: I am looking for the link on how to do Subsurface Scattering in PoserPro 2012 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
select all /copy, on the rightclick menu in mat room viewport.
ie with the shader as you want, right click in the viewport, 'select all', right click again 'copy', go to next part, select all, delete then paste. and so on until all required surfaces are treated.

to take an example of DAZ QA these days, in their big promo of circus/fair props etc,
the 'Ferris Wheel' and its lights were not even loaded into Poser to try, or if they did the tester/s were told to ignore a BIG issue.
the 'Ferris Wheel Lights' crashed EVERY version of Poser, and the Carrara version crashed Carrara as well!!!.
they have also had a thread going asking for betatesters, only app knowledge required is for DS3/4.
a couple of threads were started about the issue, and several people contacted daz direct about it.
someone made a fix and posted it at sharecg, while it was up, no-one at DAZ told enquirers it was being looked at ( ie, the ones who contacted daz, never got a proper reply) within 2 days of the fix being pulled from sharecg ( by the author) daz staff were in the forums stating that a fix was being produced.
coincidence? i don't think so.

a slight clarification required. Windows 7 Home Premium can access 16 Gb of ram, you don't need Pro for that.
Thread: Are die-hard Poser users going to switch to Daz Studio for VIvky 5? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
nope, won't be buying into the hype.
DS user since DS1.7, bought DS3A, very happy (except for lack of dynamics).
bought P7, P8( late 2009/early 2010) and due to a lucky windfall, PP2012.
tried DS4/Genesis, no longer on any of my rigs, and will not be installed ever again.
Thread: environment dome with IDL enabled. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
lol! i have trouble with domes anyway, as i tend to use a focal length of 250 on my render camera
Thread: environment dome with IDL enabled. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - I don't understand why you should make a skydome invisible to the camera when a skydome should be large enough to include most camera settings. Even BB's envsphere is large enough to use for aerial scenes.
because i have few image maps that suit the skydomes, so i want to use the BG images i do have, and layer the render over .

Thread: Poser 2012 Renderosity Zip Install Failure | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
thats probably the W7 UAC in operation.
starting with Vista, Windows does not like users installing files into the program folder.
depending on how you installed your PP2012, there might be a PP2012 runtime installed to your documents folder.
even if not, you should install your working runtimes outside the program folder.
how they are set up is a personal choice. i have over 50 distinct runtimes linked to my Poser apps.
Thread: Victoria 5 coming soon?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
well, i think V5 is quite pretty, and well proportioned ( from what i could see) but unfortunately, as she will not be a standalone weightmapped( or otherwise) figure, i will not be using her.
Thread: Victoria 5 coming soon?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - I have just been warned by daz that as I said "Victoria 5 was just another genesis morph" I have acted negativly & been threatened with loss of posting priviledges
yup, sounds about right. people have been banned, just because they have reservations about the apps or Genesis.
