Dale B has it right on the money with Vue; I WISH I could use it; I went out and bought a copy, but it crashes on me so much I can't use it. Win2k/XP glitch, apparently. But if it Did work I would snap up Mover real quick. but if you are going for Pro... 3dStudio Max or Lightwave. they will also both do Poser animation imports. I disagree, but everyone thinks the modeler in Lightwave is the best thing since sliced aardvaark.
Thread: apps like Poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Um. None of the apps currently on the market really have anything to do with the video card; A video cards job is really just to display stuff on the monitor, nothing else. Poser is the simplist. it's actually pretty unique. All the big time apps (Maya, Lightwave, 3Dstudio, etc) can do figures, but require a LOT more work to get the same output. Lifeforms is great for designing motions...but doesn't really do a graphical output (but it will export those motions to poser, lightwave, etc). All the biggies will import and display Poser stuff, as will vue d'esprit, world builder, etc. So, if you are looking for a program that does what poser does, you are pretty much out of luck. I think.

Oh. My. god. For the last 1 year plus, I thought they only offered 1 freebie a week, and YOU COULDN'T GET IT AFTER THE WEEK WAS UP. Damn. Thanks?

Maybe a little more red in the flash? I counted 44 shells...seems a little excessive for the weapon shown.

Sounds like you might be on to something there, little_dragon... BTW, your animation is up.

I pretty much decided to go for it; the site works, submission is there, you can either host stuff on site or point to offsite. Just have to do the graphics up now, make it pretty...but the ASP all works. Not real netscape friendly, probably... but mozilla likes it ok.Thread: I need a translater from .3DM and .MAX to .OBJ or .3DS or .DXF | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Your best bet is to get the author of the MAX file to convert it for you; most of them will. I think I read somewhere that Polytrans can do something with them, but i'm not sure.
Thread: full info about .MPG and .AVI file formats needed | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Buy a book or 300; there isn't, as far as I've ever seen, any such place. there are a hundred different codecs for avi, and you should have gotten everything about MPEG from mpeg.org. except of course the mpeg-3 codecs for avi & asf & wmv... There just isn't one place where you can go to find out everything. probably not even a good library. Narrow your focus.

I wouldn't laugh at frontpage...I use it. nothing better for getting a webpage out quick. But then, I'm not an "artist". I'd say that that sounds pretty cheap for your purposes, especially if the bandwidth meets your needs, but I can see 1 freestuff entry really killing you; what's the policy on unforeseen usage? A lot of companies will just bill you automatically. I personally would probably want a little more space than that; the frontpage server extension usually eat up about 3-5mb of space all by themselves.
Thread: 3D ModelWorld - Gone Again | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well........ I cheat for my personal site. However, I set up websites for people pretty continually; what you want to look for is "unmetered bandwidth"; if the company advertises "unlimited bandwidth", they are full of it. With unmetered, you get a variable amount of bandwidth on a continual basis... that's confusing. Ok. they have your server hooked to the web with a 512kbps connection. there are several other sites on the machine thats hooked. you get anywhere from 10% to 90% of that connection, depending on how popular the other sites on the machine are. So there is no monthly bandwidth limit...but if everyone on the planet tries to download from you at once, the connection will be slow. services of this type are provided by: http://www.parcom.net/home/windows_services.html and http://www.incredible.com/webhosting.php but i haven't used them lately. I would be happy to help out anyone who is in a bad plan find something better.

I've been running sites since 1996, and I've never had a problem with bandwidth, or high bill due to excessive bandwidth. Whenever I put up a freestuff item these days, I can count on at least 2GB of downloads within 48 hours; which is why I never even CONSIDER hosting that charges for bandwidth. Why? there are good deals, and decent host'ers with NO limits, for the same prices as people pay for the bandwidth limited accounts. I just don't get it.
Thread: Poser - is it MY work or no work at all? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This might not be appreciated. I don't consider this art. My original training in life was to be a draftsman; thats how I got into this computer 3d stuff anyway. So what I do I don't in any way consider art; because i'm not an artist. If a person IS an artist, I don't think it matters what method they use to create the art, it only matters that the message they are trying to convey comes across. As a for instance, my dad can pick up my kids cheap plastic guitar and make music come out; a person who doesn't have the art, doesn't have the gift, won't be able to make music come out of anything. If they have a good technical training, and practise, and stick with it, they might make something that sounds like music, but it still won't have any soul.
Thread: The Pose Folders | Forum: Poser Technical
Nope, PC. the weird thing is that it's just the pose folder; I can see everything in character, props, etc. 12 characters. to reduce to font size: Rt-click on your desktop, get properties, go to appearance, change tool-tip and message to font size 7.
Thread: Did You Flunk the Pbooost Compatability Test on XP Home? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I tried the compatibility tester, it says there is a problem with file locking, I believe. the main answer for this problem I have received is that I'm running a drive in FAT32 mode (which I am, I have one drive set up for Win98SE dual-boot). However, I'm thinking most likely it's because of having write-behind cache disabled on my temp directory; I did this in order to maintain a stable filesystem that could handle power outages, etc. This would in effect "lock" the file system; it doesn't appreciate things being written too while they are open. This could, I believe, keep Pbooost from properly working while poser was loaded. Which is really a shame, it looked sooooooo cool. I geuss I'll just keep using my bat files to rename directories.
