No one program on a Windows system is going to handle more than 2GB. 32-bit apps can only address 4GB, and Windows NT/2K/XP (like other OS's) splits that 50/50 between itself and the application. So 2GB is the application's absolute upper limit. More real/virtual memory than that will only be used by separate applications running at same time. Re XP vs 2K, if product activation / sell-your-soul-to-Billy-for-resale isn't enough to direct your decision, then simply consider that there is less code in Win2K than XP! But OTOH you need to be aware than some applications - Adobe Premier Pro comes to mind - are being written for XP only, they will not run under Win2K. I presume this is to reduce Adobe's support costs, but there might be a technical reason for it. One thing to seriously consider when "upgrading" your OS from Win 9x/Me to NT-based is to not upgrade at all, instead do a clean install. A pain - not doubt - but clearly, and in practice, a fresh install allows a better choice of settings/configuration by the OS than adapting to the choices made originally by the Win 9.x installer. Finally it's really best to start with a new PC for the new OS, but if using an older PC and/or peripherals for this upgrade, be careful to check ahead of time for any old devices, for which drivers may be unavailable or just plain poor (eg. HP multi-function printers).
Thread: What are these RSR files??? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
To the last point: Macs have a data (resource) fork, and a program fork. Both are stored within the single program file. (This is where resedit - Resource Editor - comes in.) Windows unfortuantely had no such concept back when Poser was first ported to the PC. So the solution that CL, or more correctly Metacreations, or even Fractal Designs (?), took when porting was to create a separate file on the PC to house the rsr part. This is a disaster-waiting-to-happen solution, 'cos 2 files to be updated synchronously spells point of failure in a crash. (One gets written/updated, one doesn't.) Fortunately later versions of Poser have removed the dependence on all .rsr files bar the poser.rsr one, as indicated above. Presumably when Poser 5+something gets written the switch to XML configuration started in PPP and extended considerably in P5 will be completed, and result in the dropping of this last "rsr" file.

Re the wrong pose being applied: Do you have more than 255 poses in your library perchance?
Thread: Victoria 3, Micheal 3 question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
"if figure 1 isn't V3 then the INJ morphs don't work." This is common assumption, but it's not completely correct, unfortunately. The figure to be injected has* to be the first figure IN THE SCENE. That means it will typically be Figure 1, but not all figure 1's are the first figure loaded. Do New scene, then load the figure to be injected before loading anything else. A freshly loaded Poser is usable without New only if you have set your own preferences to load to an empty scene - if you delete the default guy to clear the scene, the scene is not truly empty to Poser. (Note this means that 2 injection figures can't be in the same scene, unless one is saved to the library fully injected previously - but see note below). * There is a way around this, Maveris' invention which I termed FII (Figure Independent Injection), but it has it's own set of downsides too. See the link above for more info - including links to other discussions on topic.

ronstuff, I 2nd alamanos' plea for a screen shot... (Starting from behind here, as P5 didn't want to cooperate on my system until SR4.1!) You should be able to create the effect of separate ear material zones using the Grouper tool to select all - or even just the outer parts - of the ear(s) and spawn a new material zone. Leastways it shows up in P4/PP Materials, so I'd assume it'd show up in P5's Material Room. Thanks for the thoroughness of your post.
Thread: What's available for Dina V? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The reason the model was said not to be like "the fake super-model look of the other poser figures" is because she is 3 dimensionally scanned from a real person: Dina Marie Vannoni. There's no point posting her website link here, as it will be removed; the TOS no longer condones linking to age-restricted sites (from this age-restricted site), but if you do a search on her name in this forum, you'll find more info about her.

Iff you haven't resaved since, you may find a backup copy of the prior version of the .pz3 in your directory. Can't remember what it's renamed to, but it was obvious. This is not deleted until the current save is complete, so it should be there. If you find it, rename it now so it isn't overwritten. Obviously it'll be out of date, but I've had some luck in editing the corrupt one in a text editor (trim it off to a point where it'll at least load a partial scene), and then saving out parts of the new scene, e.g. characters, poses, props, and then loading into the renamed old saved one... As I say, sometimes.

Dave-So, I had same problem. My hunch is that it's just doing a total file count for the folder to do the check, so the limit number you need is x2 (.cr2/.pp2/.etc + .png) or x3 if you have .rsr's about too. But I could see no reason for a low number (nor could I see any reason for any limit in the first place ;-) so I just added a 0 on the end: 100 => 1000 :-O

IIRC it was a problem with the unpatched original Poser 5. (Can't check as those posts are toast.) Get the SR4 patch from CL's site, apply and retry?

You'd have to rename, you can copy a .pz2 to Camera as long as you change the extension to .cm2 as well. But some of them like Face and Hands will give you annoying warning dialogs that you have to dismiss, if you've put, say, a renamed .pz2 in there. So I think the answer is technically yes, but it would have so many annoying side effects you might not want to in practice. I've stuck to MAT/MORs in Camera to ease the crush in Pose, and am toying with moving Injection .pz2's into Face for similr reasons, but haven't done the latter across the board yet, 'cos of that annoying error message. (It's easy enough to ignore, but it also masks the error - some attributes are not appropriate to this figure - when it really is in error.)

You can find instructions on CP removal here, and several places at PoserPros if you search, but easiest to find is under Poser 5 Tips & Tricks forum at PoserPros - as it's an announcement or sticky so is always near the top of the first page of that forum. Most of the other tips mentioned above are in the same place, under a separate thread. Can't remember the title, even though I wrote it, but something about new tricks. Again it's a sticky so in the first few postings.

As for sharing it, i'd love to! just not sure how to go about it. Kev, As nobody's answered your question, I'll give it a shot. Within Poser select the Head then do a copy (Ctrl-C) and then paste (Ctrl-P) into any text editor. Repeat for the Body if applicable. This will capture all the parameter dial values. Afterwards you can edit the text file to remove everything but the parameter names and values (as for example Grey Cat does). Or you can leave as is. In fact if you leave as is it's even easier for the person applying them to V3, they can simply reverse the process (Ctrl-C from text file, Ctrl-P into fully injected Poser V3 figure) - no dial twisting for them to do at all. (If you run Daz's IPB first on the saved character that will hide the 0-value parameters, else you could just edit those lines out of the text file afterwards, or if going the "as is" route, just leave them in there.) Then go to Gallery here, select Poser and Character Formulae, post your picture, and paste the text file underneath - see many examples by Grey Cat.
