has any thought been put into the idea of users that run multiple versions of blender and intermingling of files?
i have 2.2.1, 2.49.2b, 2.58.0, 2.6.0 and will have 2.61 asap and all of the file co-mongle from the 2.5 series to the 2.6
i abhore poser and find studio to be TOOOOO limited to even open most times so being able to share prerigged models would be a godsend for me and might even tickle some freebie-junkies as well

vinous there is a freely offered version of the lowpoly male mesh at cgcookie aka blendercookie under the freebies tab
making that mesh from scratch would take about 8 hours+ and involve costs of a minimum of $2000.00 for a pro
but once imported into blender rigging it and annimating it would be another hour or so without texturing it, materializing, sculpting, or even setting it up to be used in any other program
on my end it would run $5200 just to get it poser

a cat named tiger decided to crack the weak security of the site and say he hacked it
well the site is back up
real hackers wouldnt have left any fingerprints
Thread: What are you working on thread | Forum: 3D Modeling
yes i will be modeling the strings, the actions, and the tone ring as well
the keys are individual parts so that some ambitious user can rig it to use
for the sword i think that the 2nd version is killer and i can see it working for more than just animae

i did mention the shear option but looking more at the image provided there was a loopcut that would have made shear impossible
and i am not the guru of the 2.5 version because i still preffer the 2.49.2 interface
but it is a workable method that will greatly reduce the work flow

for a tut it would take a bit i have several ahead of it for now
as for a video based that would be faster but a bit hard to understand due to my accent
and i am targeting my tutorials to the novice to blender that hate videos so it takes more time and as it is that i am just learning 2.5+ myself its a bit slow
ill work it in

if this is the basic finished piece you want i can write a short tutorial here for it or
just add a plane and set it to the angle and area you want it at then select the cylinder and TAB into edit mode and use wireframe and select the verts and G to rab and X to stay on the Xaxis and make the cut

with not seeing the object in question its hard to say but splitting faces is not usualy a feature for blender
it can be done in retopo if you have the skills and patience
if it was a single loop you could use the shear option in edit mode CTRL+S
without all details its almost impossible to say

sculpting and trans maps
trace the basic shapes and model it from a plane
then use loopcuts or subsurf to add verts
go to the sculpt room and make it your desired shape
then use the uv unwrap to make a .tga save it take the .tga to a photo editor and paint it the way you want then save it with a transpearant background
set it as uv color and render
also for those interested i am working on a .pdf tut for modeling a female mesh from base cube to final render
the first part is almost done and needs to be tested, as before i will start from the basis of kowing anything about blender and since i just got 2.58 2 days ago you will learn as i do
