thanks for the heads-up!  I got it, and installed it. Installation works fine, but when I try
to launch it, it just silently dies (no error message or popup).

Using XP64, latest service pack, 4 Gigs of RAM. Has anyone similar problems?

the 500% bump setting should be fixed in Carrara 7.2, it was really annoying in 7.1.
I imported the same scene (Stonemason mediterranean) into 7.1 and 7.2 and the
results look very different.

With GC, the issue is that Carrara does not apply inverse GC to textures like Poser,
so you have to manually adjust all your textures in order to avoid double GC, which
makes the images look too bright and washed out.

I had that as well, not only with V4.   Don't remember where I posted that bug.

Usually unconforming all clothing and reconforming helps.
Still, it is very annoying.

forgot to say, it's Windows only AFAIK, and not much support yet for the Poser people
except Miki2 (i.e. no G2 males or Poser 6 people supported as of now) :-(

I had Vista 32 Bit, and uninstalled it because the OS kept the computer busy.

I up/down (?) graded to XP64, now CPU and disk is available for the applications!
I'm much happier with XP64 than with Vista.
Also my impression is that I have less PoserPro crashes with XP64 than with Vista
(still too much, though)

Some drawback is that my mainboard (ASUS) does not work properly with 8 Gigs
of RAM (no overclocking done, still when it's cold (!), I get frequent bluescreens)
so I've downgraded to 4 Gigs of RAM again. :-(

thanks a lot for the helpful hints.   I had searched the Poser 5, 6, 7 Materials sections  on Renderosity freestuff already, and did not find anything as I wanted.
The brushed metal from the V4warrior outfit indeed is the closest match I got, thank you
very much for that hint!  Its mirroring is still too detailed, but I guess I can tweak that a bit.

I will keep you updated once I have the material I searched.
