I've read a bunch of threads treading around the subject, but not asked so directly I guess it what I'm getting at.
I'm short and to the point (ish).
Thread: V4.2 face to G3 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
OK, so I see you need Genesis Generation X2 & GenX2 AddOn for Genesis 2. I didn't see a conversion yet for G2-G3, although I didn't look too long at it. Saw some issues with joints, but I'd convert face only and use native G3F morphs for the body.
So it may be possible, but it's V4 to G2F to G3F, right?

I actually appreciate hearing from buyers what they would like to see in the Marketplace. And, I hope we can all have a civil conversation about this. It's important to me as a vendor to know what buyers want, and I'm not offended by it, even if some might think it seems like flame baiting. It seems that it's an important issue for buyers, too. So, I'd love all the feedback you will give me (even if it is sent via SiteMail). 'Poser products' is a little bit vague can you be more specific of what products you would like to see for Poser? What figures do you use? Are you wanting props, scenes, clothing, hair, shoes?
From a vendor perspective, I can say that many of our last V4 clothing items didn't sell very well, and we have many of our regular, loyal buyers asking for G2 & G3 clothing and hair. So, we have a few G3 items, but have tried to stick more to the Gen2 figures so that even Poser users can use them with the DSON poser compatible files (that we've been providing). Personally, I'd love to develop more just Poser products. It's faster and easier for us, but it feels too much like wasting our time because they don't sell.
Try to get this back on track.
Interesting to hear your input. I'll throw in my $.02, I'm just a hobbyist but I've spent a lot over here at Renderosity.
The Ever looming DAZ-Poser split seems to likely be the biggest factor, IMHO. Genesis 2 has finally been out for a few years now with a lot more products available for it, and seems to be picking up momentum with the free DAZ Studio and the fact that there isn't native support in Poser. Now with Genesis 3 and Iray they are picking up even more momentum.
Clothes fitting is always an issue in Poser and I feel like I'm not alone here. The morph brush is good, but not perfect as it mashes the geometry of the clothing. DAZ lacks the morphing brush, but from what I've gleaned from other artists & hobbyists the fitting is much better out of the gate. IMHO, clothing vendors for V4 would go a long ways toward including Perfect V4.2 into clothing, if possible or two versions. Who is still rendering V4 any more without that or similar mesh fixes?
I feel like I'm at a fork in the road. I like Poser, but Victoria 7 is very appealing. Unfortunately I'm pretty well vested in Poser owning Pro 2014 and the Octane plugin, not to mention a ton of V4 & Poser content. I actually downloaded Studio 4.8 yesterday, and about to pick up V7. I'm wondering if I try switching to Iray, or get the Octane plugin for DAZ. So really two forks for me, go to DAZ? If so, I'm sure I'll keep Poser & Octane for V4 renders. Going with DAZ, go with Octane or Iray? Iray won't be free either with all the shaders to buy.
Lastly, not to make this sound personal, but I feel really burned by the Prime change. So much, in fact I don't think I've purchased a single thing at Renderosity since the change. It made me realize just how much I already have in my library anyways that I haven't gotten around to. I've bought some things over at the other places, and will probably pick up that other premium membership too.

OK, I'm not at Genesis 3 yet but interested. But I'd like to get some of my V4 characters (at least the faces) into Genesis 3 if possible.

I'm on my way out for New Years so just popping in for a moment. I found this web site that has tons of Star Wars 3D content. I do not know if these are stolen or not. If you find they are not legit, please forgive me and have a moderator remove this link. Thanks.
This is a link to a Death Star corridor. There are tons of others - browse the site.

That's the site. I tried that corridor as well. It doesn't import properly with latest Pro 2014 Poser on Win 10 or Blender for me.
Thread: Star Wars Models | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Star Wars has my interest of late as well, except for images not movies. I've been to Vanishing Point, some pretty good stuff there.
But I haven't found any scenes/environments. I found some for 3ds (forgot site, just re-installed), but they don't open properly even in Blender. Looking for interiors, like Death Star corridors, ship corridors, etc.
Thread: Decent vein image resource | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I prefer to have that sort of thing, if I use them, in PS layers to add them how I want them to textures. The more I can do on my own, the better. I don't see it as a waste, I see it as another way to create something that is more mine than what's out there.
Now that I have them and used them a few days, I prefer the PSD files. It's a little more work up front, but then the skin is complete for that character for future renders. And as you stated more customizable too!
Thread: Octane Render | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'd say yes, it's totally worth it. I've had gaming rigs, so I've always had pretty good video cards. Poser's rendering has ALWAYS bugged me. It certainly has IDL flaws. BagginsBill is a wizard, and can eek very good results out of it but I am only a padawan, not a Jedi master. I pretty much gave up on scenes (enclosed spaces), Poser's implementation of lighting would drive me nuts trying to sort things out. I've used BB's environment sphere and light meter too.
I've found Octane to be far easier in terms of the lighting to the hobbyist. Place lights as you would in the real world, and it behaves pretty like you'd expect it. I never got that in Poser. All these tricks of IBLs and 50 lights trying to illuminate a scene. I've tried Luxrender as well, and even with 3.8 GHz i7 it was just too slow for me. For reference, I have two EVGA GTX 970 cards. I think the pic linked took 5 or 6 hours.
Having to edit textures in Octane is a pain in the ass and the drawback, but the results I believe are worth it.
Warning! Link has nudity. Not my best, but here's one I re-visited in Octane. Similar lighting. Link to Poser version in description.

Hi there 5-6 hour render with Octane is not the fastest there as I would expect from two 970,did you tried to render only with one card ? I know there is flaw with new GTX which seems are slower in Octane, but faster in OpenCL...
In therm of lighting in Poser, depends on scene and depends on settings etc.but is easy to achieve good results there and I would recommend to use Gamma Correction and Scenefixer for correcting materials, with Gamma Correction you don't need to use 50 lights
Hope this helps
Thanks,Jura
Thanks Jura, I checked the benchmark demo they have and I'm at where I should be for speed. It's a pretty big image (2560x1440), and a lot of specular materials. Lots of things in a scene impact rendering speed. I also used PMC for the renderer which is slower than Pathtracing, but I find better at removing fireflies.
As for getting good results out of Poser, I disagree about the ease of good results. Even with all the tools you can get splotchy areas and lighting artifacts... Again there are masters here at it, but I'm not one of them. You will spend more time in Octane editing materials, but I find that I'm spending less time lighting. And that's not to say I don't edit materials in Poser - buying Poser native stuff, sometimes I'm still tweaking materials trying to get better results.I find for the hobbyist/casual user, it's easier to achieve better results with Octane.
I'm a convert now after buying it. :)
Hi there
2560X1440 is pretty big agree, but still speed is not the fastest,I usually render in 1920X1200 which is OK,but in V-RAY I'm rendering in higher resolutions..Yes agree picture looks great and specular maps looks good too
Here are few renders which I've done in Poser Pro and I've used only 3 IDL light boxes(they're very similar to Reality boxes which I've re-created in Blender for this purpose),nothing else I've not used and BagginsBill envsphere too where I've attached modified HDRI spherical map
Pictures have some sort of nudity(its in lingerie)
Here is link on the Deviantart:
http://jura78.deviantart.com/
As you can see you can achieve good results in Poser Pro,I've used Gamma Correction and lighting artifacts or splotches, this depends, this you can get like with Poser or any other PBR,I've tried several renderers and with all you can have lots of issues
I've tried only demo of the Octane with which I've been pretty happy, but still I'm not sure if I would go this route, depends on new Octane 3 which will supports AMD OpenCL then I would go,but still I would and want to wait to see benchmarks on this subject, but new Reality 4.1 which will support new LuxRender 1.5 with which we can gain lots of speed,as per Paolo tests, looking like 1000px can be possible in 30mins which will speed up Reality immensely
Editing materials this is with any renderer,I usually spend crazy times with editing materials in Poser or in 3DS MAX and try to find best possible material or best possible settings, its downfall of any renderer
I'm too hobbyist and I'm not professional,I'm using most of the other renderers(V-RAY or Keyshot) which are student versions/EDU and 3DS MAX is too student version/EDU which is OK for my needs,I'm not professional and I will never be
Hope this helps there
Thanks,Jura
Yeah I think the renders look good, but looking closely on your latest Fiona IV you see splotchy shadows above and to the right of her head on the ceiling, and to the right on the wall. Saw that in some others too. Those for example seem very hard to get rid of in Poser and would constantly bug me. I'm not saying it's impossible, but for hobbyists I think the lighting is easier to do in Octane. Nice work Jura. Only thing I'd say is that I'd recommend using depth of field. I think it makes the renders look a little more realistic, as it happens with cameras and photographs. On the down side, it does slow renders down!
Also, I like the background you used. Is it a equirectangular on a sphere? I'd like to grab a copy! :)

Thread: Try out Victoria 6 without DSON jacking up Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Install DSON, and V6 into a new external runtime/library? That way if I don't like the results, I can uninstall DSON and remove that library? I have a lot of V4 content, not sure how much I'll be able to use with V6.
To answer your original question, yes, this is exactly how I have mine set up; Install the DSON Importer into the Poser Program Directory, and install V6 and the Genesis 2 Starter Essentials (both DSON Core and Poser CF )into a folder, and add it to the Poser Library. I have my Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 figures and clothing in seperate Runtimes; However, DSON clothing seems to somehow need to be in the runtime with the figure to work properly. There is some good free clothing for Genesis 1 and 2 floating about. Much of it will work in Poser using D3D's free DSON foader script, which loads items that don't have Poser Content Files...
http://d3d.sesseler.de/index.php?software=poserpython&product=dson_loader
Thanks WandW, sounds like I can try it out without much issue.
Jura, I already bought Octane, about a month ago, which is only a few weeks before they announced the new version. Figures. But I have Nvidia cards so that is not an issue.

LOL, well, I fail to see how money comes into play in a recommendation to use FREE software, but whatever.
Oh, and you should probably note DS now has it's own nifty replacement for Octane included for FREE, too. With DS. So, there goes that money question.
Oh yeah, and like Octane even has it's own lights.
And, a big thanks for quoting my stalker who follows me from thread to thread on every forum just to attack me, even though I have him on ignore.
And, I'm done with this thread. We have to let Male_M3dia get the last word or he just goes on and on and on and on.
Have at it, MM.
Free isn't totally free, I have to buy content. And I didn't want to start a software war either. I have a hard time believing DAZ's renderer is as good as Octane's.
