Thread: Fantasy Attic's Annual Halloween Community Gift Page | Forum: Community Center
I thought that announcing stuff like this (sales on other competing sites, even the names of other competing sites) was prohibited?
Thread: BADGES are here! Please Read | Forum: Community Center
If I were a Prime member, IU would be very angry about this. I think some people would want to keep that information private. Or is there already an option to do that? If not, then there should be.
Thread: .max to .obj | Forum: Community Center
Note: my last sentence should have read like this:
Also note (again, unless they since changed it) that they do not specify whether or not the email spam/telemarket advertising ends after your free trial is over.
Thread: .max to .obj | Forum: Community Center
Heads up: The Max free trial, if you read the privacy part of the license/terms, in order to DL it, you have to fill out the form that includes personal info. If you read their privacy statement (and also note some of the talk on the free trial registration page) One of the terms and conditions of DLing the free trial is that Autodesk gets permission to send you spam and telemarketing, and the free trial version of Autodesk also comes with telemetry (they track how you use the program and crap, a lot like Windows 10.)
Unless, that is, this has changed since I went to DL the free trial 2 years ago (once I read about the advertisements, I was like "aw, hell naw!") Also note (again, unless they since changed it) that they do not specify whether or not clear on whether or not the advertising ends after your free trial is over.
Thread: Freestuff section is only one page long??? | Forum: Freestuff
It's because they decided to purge the forums of "all the negativity". Unfortunately, "negativity" was included in the links threads when the topic creators closed them.
Thread: Freestuff section is only one page long??? | Forum: Freestuff
Actually, offsite links and references ARE allowed, just not to "competing" sites, such as those which sell 3d models or textures, or sites that provide 3D models/scripts, textures, Photoshop/Gimp brushes, etc. for free. Nor are you allowed to post a link to file locker sites, file sharing sites, or non-trusted sites (basically, anything that is not a notoriously known and well-trusted site, such as one's personal domain name)
You are allowed to post links to well-known "trusted" sites such as Youtube and Amazon.
To be fair, as much as I loathe these rules and hold them, and the so called "logic" behind them in the uttermost contempt, I can see the logic and fairness behind banning links to file lockers and file sharing sites (and ONLY them), as these appear to be among the most commonly hijacked sites by malware attackers and warez squatters. A couple of years ago, the most commonly used file sharing site used on Rendo at the time was hijacked by The Pirate Bay (to be specific, the URL had become the page of Pirate Bay's blog)
Thread: Does Anyone Check the Tutorials Queue Anymore? | Forum: Community Center
No, please no! The freebies section is already gummed up enough as it is with animations and backgrounds! Having to open separate pages for "3dmodels" and "3dfigureessentials" then looking through both is too much of a pain in the ass. So please, PLEASE do not add tutorials to the free stuff. Also, please remove animation from Freestuff and put it in its own special little place, like the gallery or something. Not that I want to see the gallery gummed up with animations, either. Adding tutorials will make the Freestuff page even harder to navigate.
Thread: Sticking it to the Poser thieves and freeloaders (pirates). | Forum: Suggestion Box
While I do not condone piracy, to be fair, if you go for currency exchange rate vs. median income in those countries that host the pirated software, a 10 dollar model costs the equivalent of 200 dollars to them. Hence part of the reason why a piracy subculture thrives among them.
I've been badgering all the main vendor sites to get off their darned butts and start sending out takedown notices to the torrent sites for years.
It doesn't really work that way. It is up to the country in question to uphold US copyright laws. E. Europe and parts of mainland E. Asia do not do this. This is why you do not see torrent sites on US or western European servers. Although this could change unless we cave to certain EU member demands that we ban the use of "Champagne", etc in the US because somehow these are brand names in France/Greece, despite the fact that they are all named after the location that they were made in. Edit: Oh, lovely, the US and Canada recently caved to the Champagne copyright BS. Oh, how dare ANYONE violate our copyright on the name of a region of France! How dare Champagne, Switzerland call THEIR inferior wines (gaaaasp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) champagne! Disgusts me beyond belief, esp. the Switzerland and US parts.
Thread: Freebies by caty77 | Forum: Freestuff
Caty, I hate to break it to you, but we were told in one of the other threads that you are not allowed to link to competing marketplaces or freebie sites even without a direct link.
From one of the moderators:
https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2902022 Please know that typed out URL's are not allowed either. I've just been informed. Referencing the location name e.g. sharesg, etc. is acceptable. Sorry for the inconvenience we simply cannot link to somewhere that can be considered a competitor to something that we already offer here.
I'm surprised your topic hasn't been closed yet, to be quite honest.
Thread: Freestuff contributions have plummeted since Rendo changed the rules..... | Forum: Freestuff
Reason number 1 is because as stated before this was NOT the sole reason for making this change. Free items are to follow the same policies as the Marketplace products because even though they are free, they are still products.
Wow. You heard it here, folks. Your donations to the free stuff area are PRODUCTS whether you like it or not. That is scary language right there. BTW, I notice that we're still using markdown. There is no excuse for that.
She's been around a long time and knows the place. Maybe we'll get what we want eventually.
Only if the upper management changes their minds, as Lobo stated, it was their decision, and they have already heard all opinions on the matter. In other words, these rules are here to stay, because the execs will never be convinced, even if every one of the admins here at some point were to all decide that it is a horrible idea.
Thread: Why are the sales here so terrible? | Forum: Community Center
Sorry, no brokerage does that.
Well, they all should. I also think that 50/50 royalties is much too low. The artists are the ones who do most of the work, so they should get most of the money. The exception being a vendor who only releases one or two products a year-- in which case the effort is likely closer to 50/50 depending on product quality and how much effort TPtB put into site redesign, bug testing/removal, server changes, etc. that particular year.
Vendors here DO decide when to put their products on sale & the percentage discounts. No one has ever told me I have to put my items on sale. I decide that & if there are group sales, as we often have here, I decide if I want to add my products to that sale. No one else decides that for me. Sure I have to select the options of discounts provided, but that's neither here nor there.
Good. I'm very glad to hear that Rendo does that. Definitely one thing that they have over Daz.
Vendors can't opt out of coupons however
I thought sure they could here. The coupons usually say "some vendors may not participate"
Thread: Community -- Update 4/6! | Forum: Community Center
How about the ability to jump from ANY page right to "show all vendors" "figure essentials" and 3d models"? I'm sick of having to load through multiple pages just to get to them. I hate that you have to go to the MP homepage just to get the figure essentials or 3d models dropdowns.
Also, ability to check multiple boxes and then click a "see results" box, instead of having to check each box we want and wait for the page to reload one by one.
Also, the ability to check two or more categories under "software" and "compatible figures" And preferrably other things as well. For example, let's say I only want to see Poser AND Bryce renders in the gallery, but none from any other program.
Barring this, allow us to right click the check boxes and open a new tab/window of the results with that box checked.
That way, I van click "3d figure essentials>>clothing" then right click on Gen2 male checkbox and open a new tab with Gen2 male checked, then right click on Gen2 female checkbox and open a new tab with Gen2 female checked.
As it is now, you have to enter "3d figure essentials>>clothing", then open a new tab and copy/paste the URL for each separate category that you want to look at, then check the boxes of one of the categories you want to look at in each tab.

I don't even have that element blocked and it doesn't slow the site down, TBH. What slows the site down for me is all those damned carousels. Then again, I have a bunch of other elements blocked--
