Thread: Question about body hair figures | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Jepe, my biggest problem isn't getting it to look okay. It's simply that when I'm done with my M4's, they are so poly heavy (thanks to some packages being all or nothing deals, with no REM's provided to remove what's not needed), rendering all those polys takes forever and a day, and nearly chokes my machine once I'm done with a scene.
(And PS, you sounded very agressive there, I'm sure you didn't mean to. :) That's not the Jepe I know. :) Just before someone misunderstands.)

You need to initialize them first.
Go to your !Daz Folder in Runtime/Libraries/!Daz, find DzCreateExPFiles-M4.bat and run it.
If there is one for the gens, run that too.
Afterwards it will work.

The powerloader files are Daz Studio only, they don't work in Poser, so you can ditch that install.
M4 (and the other Gen4 figures) are finnicky beasts.
You have to install them to the application folder runtime (in case you use a runtime not in the application folder)
I've managed to trick M4's installer to install in an external runtime, but you need to have a poser.exe there.
All that said, it should show up if you installed it into your Poser folder's runtime.
Since you say there are M4 folders, but empty, it obviously installed to the right place.
Not sure what's going on there. I would recommend redownloading the M4 installation files and reinstalling them, in case you have a duff installer for some reason.
Also make sure you have all relevant (dpc = poser, ds = Daz Studio) files, there may be more than one installer for M4 (Not at home on my poser machine atm, so I can't check)
As I said, the powerloader file is not needed for Poser, that only works in Daz.
Also make sure you don't have a double runtime (i.e. c:/Program Files/SmithMicro/Poser 8/Runtime/Runtime), as it won't see things there.
If you do, then just drag the second runtime to the main runtime.
Also, if you're not sure what it's installing, make a new folder somewhere (Desktop?) and name it Poser. Make another in there called Runtime. Copy your Poser.exe into the Poser folder (Make sure you copy, not move)
Then install all the files to there.
This way you can check where and what is installed. Getting M4 situated properly is then a case of cut/paste that runtime to your actual poser runtime. (If you go down that route, you'll need to make new shortcuts to your initialize files, or initialize them from the !Daz folder to make M4 run properly)
Hope it helps.
FWIW -- I always install going the second route. That way I can ditch what I don't need and arrange things the way I like it in the runtime.

Thread: Poser 2012 Gamma Correction - darned if it don't work! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Oh!
Well now I gotta try this. I keep turning GC off (same reason, washed out colors). Sounds like I'll have to turn it on to see!
And...the bane of my life -- fingernails -- look soooo nice now with SSS turned on!

Thread: Question about body hair figures | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If I remember right, you need to load the first M4, apply texture, load 2nd M4, apply bodyhair, then conform.
After that add morphs to both, pose etc.
I gave up in the end. It's a good product, but it's just too finnicky.
I don't necessarily decide to add hair etc to something until much much later, and that's where it falls down. You can't add it once you morphed your first M4. (I remember asking Jepe about it, because I was getting majorly frustrated.)

Thread: Poser converts | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I kinda feel sorry for content creators.
That Genesis figure is probably a pain to model for, and then even if the figure has no (little) limitation, I'm guessing the clothing will constrict how far you can go before it no longer works.

I'm not bashing Daz.
I'm bashing the way the updates are handled, and the lack of information -- which is a farce. :)
There's not even a basic user manual. shakes head
Do you know any software with a pricetag like DS3A to come without a comprehensive manual?
Makes me laugh how many people are demanding the autofit tool to be put in their purchase history, becasue it was listed on the product features of DS4.
Yeah.
That's gonna happen.

I notice the "Autofit" is $98 or so, regular price (on 50% sale atm).
I've chucked DS4 into my cart, but that's just because it's free.
I doubt any of the plugins work with it yet. Last time it took weeks, sometimes months, before the plugins were updated.
Which means, in the meantime, DS4 is a crippled program, if you were on DS3A with a bunch of plugins.
And that's why I like Poser. I get it, I can use all of it, right away.
Like an idiot, I bought DS3A and missed the 30 day return by one day, because my internet was down. I figured since I'm stuck with it, I may as well try to get on with it.
The content "library" defeated me. I can't find anything in a reasonable amount of time.
I am used to Poser's cloth room. Well imagine my surprise when I found out the hard way that the only dynamic cloth you can use in DS3A has to be made by one specific company -- or it won't work.
I became more and more frustrated, because the things I expected to see -- required 3rd party plugins.
I got some of them, only to find I kept having to redownload various bits and pieces each time DS3 was updated -- resulting in a feature crippled program each time.
Since I was fixing my own stuff, I picked up the Advanced Figure Setup Tools -- after a lot of internal debate. Then someone tells me there's a 30 day trial of them -- and I returned them right away to use the trial instead.
I'm glad I sent them back, because it appears the AFST are no longer required / supported in DS4 (Don't quote me, i don't know, but several people have asked and no one got an answer. I'm guessing they won't be supported because the rigging is different now.)
Personally I want to know which plugins will no longer be supported -- because that means I've potentially wasted a lot of money on something falling by the wayside.
These days, I only pick up props at Daz and stick with what I got figure wise.
All in all, I think the whole DS thing has been a huge waste of money, a ton of frustration and worry for me -- and it's all down to "Plugins".
At first, when DS started, I thought it was a great idea -- until you had to redownload and reinstall everything with every other update, because the plugin updates always lagged behind. To my mind, it's stupid to release an update before dependent plugins are also updated, so people can keep working seamlessly.
People kept complaining about Poser 5 being buggy at release (it wasn't, for me), but I'd rather have that, and get a fix and I can use all of it, than having to update everything all the time.
I have never had to redownload an entire Poser install to get a fix, ever.

I've used it since, it's been around in 2010 for sure. Not sure about 2011, but I think it was.

Thread: V5 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Until that "always running process" is resolved, DS4 will not be installed on my machine, come hell or high water.
When I close an app, I expect it to close all processes and not suck up memory although I'm not using it.
DS4 is doing just that with this content management service they make you install. (Check the DS4 threads on the Daz Forums)
There is also a problem with Metadata (which is why DS has to connect and check, as I understand it), but when someone spoke up about Poser handling it differently -- he instantly had his head bitten off for daring to mention Poser.
So DS4 Beta will go nowhere near my box until they stop that process from auto starting when you're not even using DS.
Another thing... I'm with you on the Cloth room.
And yet another thing... DS standard, with no plugins, no nothing, may be free, but if you want an all singing all dancing version, you pay a heck of a lot more for everything you want/might need, than you would spend on Poser.
On top of that, the plugins are 3rd party supported. Which means every time DS changes, the plugins need to be updated and may not work until the plugin creator does that. How many plugins have been abandoned over the years?
I think anyone making a living from creating renders for projects can't really rely on an application where only the core functionality is guaranteed, but not any 3rd party plugins they might use/need to use to create what they want to show a client.
The full figure setup tools for DS are what... $150?
I bought them a while ago and sent them back, because they announced DS4 and a totally different setup in there. Since no one could tell me if the Advanced Setup tools plugin was still needed in DS4, I'm not touching them with a bargepole right now.
I have nothing against modular software. Vue does it very well, but then...all the modules are made by E-on, not 3rd party supported. That's the difference. If Vue is updated, all the modules will work after the update.
If DS is updated, you're usually stuck until the plugin creator updates the plugin.
That bugs me.
