I know of a company (can't say which) that still runs DOS and Windows 3.1. I think the main reason is their business software still functions so I guess there's no need to upgrade OS or hardware.

Actually, Windows XP is time limited and will expire eventually. When M$ no longer supports XP (a few years into the future), you will no longer be able to reactivate XP should the need arise. Remember, P5 was limited to 3 or so reactivations... after which the software would be useless and/or worthless. [It's always a good idea NOT to buy trash or things that will become worthless... except of course a car]. This applies to any and all software that requires activation, so we were happy when CL gave them the boots. And unless the time based system is ultra-smart, if your clock changes or you have to reinstall your programs after a crash or virus attack... you could end up with early expire-ware. Because it's dumb, it cannot tell you had a hard drive failure; instead it logs that you're trying to steal more time off the clock. While "they" might have a solution as a quick call to tech support to reinitialize the timer... do you really want to call on behalf of your 3,000 model collection? And finally, these problems are placed upon you because you're a good, honest, paying customer. So, long after your XP has expired... you will still be able to run Win98.

Thread: TGIF: OT: FYI: CD-R's may last only two years: | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I don't really buy into the "2 Years" limit. I've had CDs for over five years now and they still work. Sometimes they don't because of dust and grease... but wipe it off and it works just fine. On the other hand, some have scratches that once polished, works fine. I do have some that don't work or behave irratic which may relate to differnce with a newer drive. Perhaps the cheap CDs are the real culprit because of the cheap material used to build them but with falling prices, every CD is now CHEAP!!! I do like the idea with using a hard drive as a back up. It will last really really long (decades?) the less you use it. However, if you don't use it enough, will the motor seize up and die?

I bought a new 8X DVDRW and sure enough, my old CDRs went bad. I couldn't install or see anything on them. In fact, the PC refused to work ~ indicating the disc was bad - until it was removed from the drive. The original (press) CDs still work and can be installed. For some reason, I tried the bad CDs on the old PC and sure enough everything came to life again. I don't doubt that CDs will fade but try a old drive before you give up on them.

The free content alone is worth the price... that means you get P5 for FREE. For example... if you buy 10 model for $20, that $200... plus you get more than 20 models... so it's like getting Poser for FREE

I did it. I did it. I did it. I assigned each square a material using the group tool. Thanks.

I know you can change material globally, but I don't know how you can change them individually per object.

Gee... I wanted to be able to add AFTER you import - I guess it can't be done. It would be nice though. Unless you can change material afterwards.

Hi. It works great. Thanks. But now I'm curious. How do you get to add a different material to each square? I saw it somewhere but I don't know how to do it. For instance a house is made up of different objects but you can add one color for the roof, another for the walls and doors and windows.

Yes, D|S has to given away to build its base quickly because it can't compete against Poser otherwise. In other words, the Poser community would not just drop Poser to buy D|S overnight. I still know people sticking with P3! D|S specific content would and can only increase the use of D|S. I would think they also need a faster render option. It took about 2 minutes to render the dog in the woods scene. I think 64bit extension would help. If I'm not mistaken, a 1GHz Itanium (64bit) is faster that a 2GHz Xeon (32bit). But above all else... quality counts. CL hasn't learned their lesson yet, that apps don't make as much money as content do. In otherwords, you'll spend more money on content than you do on Poser. But looking beyond all this, I hope someone comes up with a consumer friendly version MovieStudio where you can do things like Matrix Reloaded, Nemo and Shrek 2. ...there would be nothing else like it, period!

Wooooo! It's great but now I'm sad because I remember M3. First, the blind Neo, then they kill Trinity, they only added two silly fight scenes, no spectacular scenes were added, they left Neo for dead, And then they wonder why the movie flopped. If we compare M2: At least 7 fight scenes A deadly car chase with spectacular effects New villians Lots of superpower effects Morpheus stated: I don't know what Neo can do to save us, but as long as a single breath is in his body, he will never give up... This indicated to me Neo would fight to the end if he had to... however, this "never give up" means begging for peace. In truth Neo was not a savior ~ a diplomat maybe. The movie theme: Everything that has a beginning, has an end... we thought it would refer to the machines who were enslaving mankind... Nope! It was Neo and not smith... because Neo was the movie. Smith was only one of a billion agents. Even if the Brothers had envisioned Smith's end, then I think they failed... because the movie was soooo much bigger than Smith.

Okay, let's vote here.... From one to 10 how do they compare to DVD quality (1 being the best). And do you have samples or know of images I can look at? Thanks.

While many apps have different format, no other has embraced Poser like D|S. Perhaps I was looking for a hero to rescue me from the shortfalls of P5. Different is not an issue but compatability is. Today you can buy Poser content that run on Poser flawlessly. Tomorrow, that could all change.
Thread: How do you file a patent? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It's possible that Poser people (who have a broad knowledge base from all walks of life) may have some time or another filed patent related to or not related to designs/patterns/schems - there's no patent forum or it must have been hidden. Photoshop also has several design and software patents - didn't have the time to research Poser's patents. For instance... I do poser work and I'm also thinking about filing patent(s). Any question?
