Watch out though! I just purchased V3 Male Morph Pak late last night. Added to my cart, went through checkout, and when the download page arrived, $0.00 purchase, no download. Tried again and worked, but now I have two purchases of the same item which has to be dealt with.

eBay is under attack as well. They've been having intermittent problems all day - couldn't get to my Selling page for awhile, now it's going slowly just browsing the site.

Let us all proclaim how much we love Microsoft! [crickets] Hard to believe that most of the world is dependent upon their Swiss-cheese software...

Just think of the revenue that's being lost! Don't these guys have someone to fix their servers on the weekends?

Actually, the RIAA and MPAA have been pushing for legislation to allow them to do just that - upload viruses-infected files, hack, and other potentially harmful activities to punish warez users. I donot believe this has been actually allowed yet, but it would basically make it legal for these organizations to "sabotage" files on or break into p2p networks in order to protect their copyrights. It is sad and, to be brutally honest, a failure on both sides (but in no way condoning theft of copyrighted materials).

martian_manhunter, Rights? You think you have rights? With the Millenium Act and other newly added "laws", if the government suspects that you are a terrorist or supporting terrorism or perform anything else covered in the MA, you can be arrested, incarcerated, and held without representation or trial for as long as the government sees fit. You are a non-person without any rights whatsoever. If Bush-Ashcroft-Republican Congress have their way, we'll be a theocratic dictatorship in no time flat. Canada is looking really good these days, as much as I despise cold weather. Almost time for this to be carted over to the OT forum... ;0)

Renderosity galleries are not a PEER-TO-PEER file-sharing system, they are a CLIENT-SERVER file-serving system. Although Napster and KaZaA weren't made to be used to protect illegal file-sharing, guess what their main uses were/are? And I'm sure that you don't use KaZaA "because" of the spyware, but inspite of it. Spyware sends information about you through KaZaA to whomever (as the link mentions) is collecting the information; there is no opt-out button. I had Napster awhile back to "check out songs" only, many of which transformed into CD purchases (I own about 700 CDs). I also had a large stock of my own CDs as MP3s for my own listening pleasure - never made them available for download. I had my Metallica collection as MP3s on my harddrive, for my listening pleasure. Can you guess where this is going? I was banned from using Napster and threatened with possible lawsuit because I had Metallica MP3s from my purchased CDs on my system for my listening pleasure unavailable to anyone else. While peer-to-peer systems like this remain inherently flawed, I will avoid their use. Hey, if you use it for legal swapping, great, but you also have to live with the terabytes of swapped illegal files as well as possible viruses/trojans (why someone using KaZaA doesn't have a virus scanner is beyond me) and spyware. I didn't say "file-sharing is illegal" - please try to quote me on that. I said "file-sharing music, video, applications, etc." where it should be understood as copyrighten material not owned by the person distributing it. That should've been easily deduced. Sorry, KaZaA isn't a hammer, it's a child let out late at night to be with the his/her friends, not taking responsibility for any consequences of its own actions. Just like Napster, it is a facilitator of illegal or questionable behaviour, even if there is a benign usefulness to it. They tried forcing the responsibility onto Napster and where is it now?

All I can say, in addition to SAMS3D, is KaZaA=spyware+virus waiting to happen. KaZaAlite supposedly removes the "spyware" part, but what part of file-sharing music, video, applications, etc. is legal anyway?Thread: Problems importing | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I had the same idea - we should follow their "advice" but make the text subpixel size. :)

Did you check to see if the 3ds files contained only polygonal models? Poser can't handle NURBS, splines, Bezier curves, parametric objects. Just to be sure.
Thread: Got a question regarding texture maps and dpi.... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Right, geoegress, but it's not the DPI that's crashing the system, it's the pixel resolution (4000x4000). Again, the DPI has no effect on anything except when printing. All that value does is tell the printing program how many pixels will fit into an inch on a printed page. Try changing the DPI in Photoshop (or whatever image app) to 72dpi while retaining the 4000x4000 pixel resolution. Then watch Poser still crash. ;) Rendering at 300dpi is good if you intend to print the rendered image on a printer that does 300dpi (or better). But try this: 1. Render at 640x480@300dpi, save. 2. Render at 640x480@150dpi, save with different name. 3. Load both into Photoshop (et al) and see the difference in print coverage (File->Print Options...) on a standard sheet (8.5x11"). Both images have the exact same number of pixels, 640x480, and are the same size in pixels and filesize, aren't they? But they print with different sizes. That's what the DPI value is used for.
Thread: Got a question regarding texture maps and dpi.... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
DPI is only meaningful for hardcopy (prints). 512x512@1000dpi is the same PIXEL resolution as 512x512@1dpi. As a standard rule o' thumb, the texture map should be as large as or larger than the pixel resolution of the rendered image or area of the image that the textured object covers. If all else fails, double the texture map size and see if that removes pixelization. Then, take half of the difference (4000-2000 = 3000) and see if the pixelization is still there or not. Continue ad infinitum (or until you are satisfied!) :)

Notice that that definition encompasses photography very well. What's available is the photographer with his/her equipment at the right time and place, whether it's serendipitous, by assignment, or by construction. The creativity comes when the photographer realizes the uniqueness of the moment, one that may (and probably will) not ever occur again, and uses the tools (both hardware and mind) to capture the moment well - create the lasting image. Maybe we need to force an introductory course in Artistic Creativity before using 3D software to squelch these yahoos... ;)
Thread: I have one simple question......... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
That's the point that I find amusing about his "rant." Why should I or anyone reinvent a tire model when there exists one that fits the need? Should I really model a '69 Corvette from scratch (and waste 3 or 6 months) when there is a perfectly adequate one that someone has painstakingly modeled and made available for just this purpose? If I can't find a model, I'll make one. If a model is needed for commercial use and the only ones available are not for commercial use, I'll make one. If, for some reason, I want to do it myself for self-gratification or growth experience, I'll make one. Otherwise, I'll use one already available. Someone mentioned "Creativity" and hit the hammer on the nail. Artistic Creativity doesn't imply "creating from the bottom up or from nothing", it implies "creating from what's available to communicate your message."
