This is dated June 4th, 2000....the render is in Bryce, but the figures were produced in Poser 2 or 3? So long ago, I can't remember! The text includes "I just bought a 256 Meg PC, and went mad with Poser and one of my old Bryce works! Now I'm poor but happy;"
What the hell a "256 Meg PC" was, I have no idea......maybe processor speed?
If you look closely at the adverts for Epic Trading Card Games new "Time Wars" set, you'll see this picture lurking.......!

Just to do my usual trick of subverting every post about to be about me, me, me....my (late) brother was the VFX designer on Red Dwarf (last 3 series) and on Hitch Hiker; I used to be a model maker on both, thanks to him!

Thread: That was the worst PC failure ever... | Forum: Bryce
Zalman/Asus all the way for me! I've got nickel-plated Zalman GPU and CPU fans, on an Asus P5 Pro main board with a 2.66 Quad Core Penyium and 8Gb of Geil Black Dragon RAM, the ones with the red LEDs which are SO cool, and obviously vital to machine running, in the same way that Led Zeppelin and the Cramps on the stereo are vital to my car working.....built it last July, and haven't had a single problem so far. I run Vista 64-bit on it, which is rock solid, but a real memory hog. When I had my heart-attack last year, building, tweaking and fiddling with this was great therapy. I know I would NEVER buy a ready-made PC again.
I really got the computer-building bug a while back, despite not knowing the first thing about it; the machine on the left of the monitor is the first one I built, not really knowing much about the whole thing; a dual-core 2.66Ghz with 2Gb of memory...for some bizarre reason, it kept crashing Vue, and when it does, it then refuses to run Poser, Photoshop, Paintshop Pro or Zbrush, but would still run Bryce. Weird. I've still got it, in stripped-down form, but need a Pentium 4 3.4 to make it live again.

Thread: OT-ish - Postwork on a Bryce Render? | Forum: Bryce
Content Advisory! This message contains nudity, violence
I don't understand Photoshop masks and so rarely use them; it means that I've come up with some useful useful self-taught alternatives that work well with Bryce renders, I think. My two cents' worth:
Use a cloud brush as the eraser, that way the 'erasings' will not be too solid and will look more natural.
The biggest single tip I can come up with is to use Bryce to make mask renders of the various elements in your picture, say near, middle and background objects, and use these to produce seperate layers for each element of the picture in Photoshop over a background of the flat, basic Bryce render. You can then paint your FX in front of, behind and even between your scene elements; it works especially well with smoke/steam/clouds and light rays. I've attached a few samples where I used this technique with Bryce.

There was a time, in the early Seventies, when (here in the UK) colour TV was new, so the old black and white set got relegated to my bedroom. As a result, from about 1974 to 1978, I absolutely immersed myself in Fifties Sci-Fi/Fantasy; watching Fifties Sci-Fi/Fantasy films was pretty much all I did for all those years. Truly a Golden Age.
