It's not really a "new Poser store" at DAZ. If you click on the Poser link, it simply performs a search that filters out non-Poser things like Genesis. It's the same Poser-compatible stuff that was always there. Some new Poser things are still coming out, but more slowly. About half of the new goods are for Genesis.
This, too, is not new. When a new product would come out -- Stephanie 4, Aiko 4, Hiro, Kids, whatever -- Â everything was about that product for awhile. I'm not into the carnival stuff, so it irked me to see almost nothing but carnival stuff for a couple weeks. The same when their Native American collection came out: all Indians, all the time. When they get their teeth into something, they and the vendors don't let go!
Genesis is a more signficant sea change, and it does signal a reduction in new Poser-compatible goods as their vendors focus on Genesis. I think it is permanent, but I don't think it is absolute. The market for V4, M4 is huge, and so is the Poser market. Their vendors won't let them change their business model to Genesis-only. The artists can't afford to live off selling only to Daz Studio users.
Thread: Creating A Script - Interest? Testers Needed. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I hope it will be written so as to work in Poser 9 / 2012 and on a Mac. The Mac version of Poser 9 / 2012 does not handle tKinter-based puthon scripts at all in 64-bit mode, and worse in 32-bit node because it makes Poser useless when you try it. At least in 64 mode you just get an error message.
Developers have had success (Shaderworks is one) by avoiding the tKinter mess altogether and updating their scripts in wx Python.
Thread: What happened to poser 8? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If you're going to spend $50 on Poser 8, then another amount on PP2010, why not just spend a bit more for Poser 9 or 2012? You're going to end up getting it anyway, eventually. I believe SM has an upgrade price from P7.

Well, anyone can print up a professional-looking label, sticker or anything at all. It doesn't make it legitiimate. The post-it comment was overboard, sorry, it was more a slam at people who pirate software. I'm sure the real Poser box was intended to do exactly what it did: make you think the deal was legitimate, Maybe he burned copies of a real Poser 8 install disk. And grabbed a bunch of serial numbers from the same people who distribute warez. Probably somebody else eventually got the same serial# and was unable to register. Whatever, the fake "Poser Pro 8" title gives it away. Sometimes these guys can't resist doing one more little thing, and blow it.
All is made right by buying a real Poser 9 / 2012. :)

A guy sold you a disk titled "Poser Pro 8" with no packaging and assured you it was legit? Was the serial number scrawled on a Post-It Note or something?
I wonder how many copies of that warez download the guy burned onto disks and sold for $50. He wasn't too familiar with the software, if he titled it Poser Pro 8. No such thing.
Thread: Python Scripts for Poser 9 / Poser Pro 2012 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Just a note from the Mac side of the world... Even updated python scripts based on tKinter will not work on 64-bit Macs. And every older script I've tried in PP2012 Mac in 32-bit mode has immediately put Poser into an unusable state. For older scripts that are indispensible, I go back to PP2010 to use them, then back to 2012 to render.
The good news is that some vendors (Shaderworks for example) are rewriting their old scripts in wx python instead of the problematic tKinter. These work fine in PP2012 on 64-0bit Macs.Â
Thread: Problem with Running Poser Pro 2012 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My first suspicion, when he said he and his friend installed at the same time, was what everyone has said subsequently. And I thought, "No, he wouldn't ask a Poser forum for help installing a pirate copy. My radar must be off." Apparently other radars detected the same thing. Honestly, I hope the OP comes back and sets us straight.
Thread: DAZ Website | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - They are a bit pricey, and hardely ever any sales.
This isn't the place to pitch for DAZ, but they do have sales. New products are typically 30% off for an introductory period. Platinum Club (their version of Prime Club) members see a discount of their own.
I grant you, the "regular" price at DAZ can be a bit steep at times compared to a similar product here. But then a few vendors at Rendo don't seem to follow prevailing market prices, either.
As people told me over at DAZ, if I think $14.95 for a simple halter top is steep (plus another 8.95 if I want a nice selection of textures), I should visit some of the "pro" sites and be prepared to pick my jaw off the floor.
We often forget that vendors have to pay anywhere from 30% to 50% of each sale to the host site. And, like DAZ, there is usually an introductory discount. Some of us hardly ever buy anything unless it's discounted or couponed in some fashion. Must be discouraging at times for a vendor, if you must price your item at $9.95 to start with, see it sell for $6.95 at discount, maybe lose another 20% to a coupon, and then pay the site at least 30% of what's left. Consumers forget all that stuff sometimes.

They're still posting new stuff for V4 over there, as well as props, poses, hair etc. that work in Poser. But there's no doubt that more and more of the new stuff is for Genesis, as you would expect.
My Platinum Club membership doesn't expire until Feb 2013. I bought it for $69.95 mostly because it came with a $30 instant voucher and another $72 worth of monthly vouchers through the year, plus the PC discounts. I always find at least one thing every month worth applying the $6 voucher toward, but I admit it's getting harder. By Feb 2013 it will be clear whether the ratio of non-Genesis product is worth having a PC membership.
Thread: Any harm in deleting unneeded V4 morphs? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ah, I see. My "base" V4 was actually one that had all the Morph++ and the other add-on morph sets installed. At the time I did that I didn't realize the memory that all those morphs would consume. My base figure had bloated to 67 MB. I see the real base V4 with only the default head and expression morphs is only 1.2 MB.
So I'll do what hborre suggested, start with the 1.2 MB Vicky and add only those morphs I think I'll use, then add others as I need them. Installing the entire Basic and Morph++ packages, while the quickest way, adds aboout 4 times more morphs than I actually use.
Thread: Any harm in deleting unneeded V4 morphs? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My understanding was that Vicky comes out of the box with every DAZ morph, including Girl 4, Aiko 4, and Stephanie 4, but they aren't visible until "installed." Once installed, removing them with the REM file doesn't actually remove them, they are just made invisible again.
As an experiment I stripped out all the unneeded morphs (including hundreds of invisible ones for A4, G4 and S4). V4's file size shrunk in half, from 67 MB to 34 MB.
But I'll also try what you suggest, though it sounds tedious injecting one morph at a time.
Thread: Minimize Poser Pro 2012 during render? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Poser 8 and Pro 2010 did not like to be left to render while one did other tasks on the computer. In fact it didn't even need to be rendering. It was a very jelaous mistress and would generally (but not always) crash if you switched away from it. This is the Mac version. Poser Pro 2012 is much better in the regard. I think they cleaned up some memory problems in this version.Â
Thread: Can Poser9\pro2012 implement a collision detection system like daz4? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, the DS collision detection sounds pretty cool if it works as described and doesn't bog down the system. I wish Poser did APTP (automatic poke-through prevention)!
Thread: Can Poser9\pro2012 implement a collision detection system like daz4? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Poser has had collision detection for years, not sure how it compares to the DS version. Personally, I find it adds more overhead to the system than it's worth and I just do it by eye in instances where it matters if two objects touch..
Thread: Are die-hard Poser users going to switch to Daz Studio for VIvky 5? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm intrigued by the reported bending and joint improvements, and the low-poly aspect. If a Poser-compatible Genesis is produced that lets you reap all the benefits and doesn't require DS4 to export to Poser format, sure I'll give Vicky 5 a whirl. Plus it must be possible to inject V4 characters and morphs into her (accurately) so she can wear her current wardrobe.
Oh yeah, and I'd like a pony.
