Its hard to diagnose problems like this.  I have win7 and have upgraded and installed beta's as well.  I did have a problem a while back but not with carrara turns out something in the .net app system messed up and certain .net apps wouldn't run it was very frustrating.  Something underlying got corrupted and there was no way to 'fix' so I had to re-install.  I didn't know it was .net apps as there was no real message.  The author of a screensaver I use had a lightbulb moment when the software didn't run.  He sent me a 'hello world' app as a .net app and that pinpointed the problem.

I will agree with Animajikgraphics. Let the DVD Authoring Software handle the encoding.  There is a free open source application called DVDFlick that will do a basic job of converting video files and building a DVD including a menu.  Its not slick and all the bells and whistles of DVD Studio Pro but it works and its free.

Some depends on how much storage you have to work with as well.  You would want to store in as uncompressed as possible.  You could go with sequential images and then have them put together (I can't think of the packagethats open souce off the top of my head, however your video editing package might have that).   If storage is an issue or if a little lossyness isn't an issue (might not be able to tell since you are not doing editing) Then go with one of the compressing ones.

I have C8 installed 64bit so I can't look at the built in settings for quicktime (Quicktime is 32bit currently)  I do have the Pro key (about 30.00 ) it will open a sequence of images and store back as a DV format or others.

Feed that into your DVD Authoring app and your good to go.

Note I just looked at my C7 there is uncompressed AVI for lossless and support for Quicktime Direct with DV and others.  That being said I would prob still do a sequence of images.  If there is a problem you can always start at a certain point if many are already done.

Actually I like it, its also 192 with the plat club price.  The appear to have extended the sale to the 15th.  But I think you went over all that and the prices in the thread about the upgrade.

I hate to be the one to tell this, but unfortunately you missed the upgrade window.  Daz had a sale on Carrara 7 Pro upgrade going with a free upgrade to version 8.  You could try calling the sales at Daz to see if anything can be done, but they were pretty strong in there message about there not being an upgrade from 6 Pro once 8 Pro came out. It is still on sale right now which with the plat club discount is approx 65% off I believe.  But that ends tonight :( 

While possible from them, it could be an ad thats showing up.  Do you use Firefox and NoScript?  I have gotten an alert from the mega site before and just did the download, however I notice that noscript had scripts from some ad sites that wanted to run which I don't allow.
