Well it's very clear to me!
No excuses Wabe, all Rendo staff and mods ARE ALIENS. So they know exactly where those private parts are! You really have to put some clothes on them, which you off course can only buy at........well, Rendo.
See, see, it is one big conspiracy of Aliens! I knew it, I knew it.......

Well, Vue keeps surprising me!
If you do the trick with the dummy primitive and go to the last keyframe of the BldgA group, and then move the dummy, it works! And it does not matter if there are any intermediate keyframes.
Man, had I known this before it would have saved me a lot of trouble!

You are right, it does not work. The solution I gave you only works with looped rotating objects like propellors.
The reason why it does not work for you is that the position of group BldgA is also animated. If it would not be animated, and you would set the master group to "Forbid Animation" you can move it freely around, any time.
Regrouping is no option, you will loose all animation within the new group.
The thing you can do is move a copy on the first frame of animation, note the X, Y values of the new position, go to the last frame of the animation of group BldgA, correct the XY value. As long as there are no intermediate keyframes for the position this should work. Else you have to correct them as well.
Tip: If you want to move the keyframes in time, open the keyframe editor, expand all the groups so you can see all keyframes, draw a rectangle around all keyframes to select them. Now you can move them in time.

Try this:
-Go to frame 1
-Create a primitive to use as a dummy (null object). Move it on top of or underneath the building.
-Link the copy of bldg01 to the primitive.
-Move the PRIMITIVE to where you want the second building.
That should do the trick!

Probably installing V7i, and supply the V6i serial during installation will do...

As  far as I know you can install Vue on two computers, whether they are PC or MAC, as long as you use only one at the time. The Vue 7 infinite installer already comes with a Mac and a PC version embeded, and the serial will work for both platforms. Find the "Setup.exe" in the Vue 7 infinite Install folder and you are ready to go.

Hi Bagginsbill,
If I understand you right I have to assign smoothing groups to polygons on one side of a edge rather than to a complete mesh (shape) within a prop. So a cube would need four ID's to get all the edges sharp??

Thanks (Guru) Phill ;-),
That's exactly what I try to achieve. So some bits of the prop need to be smooth and other bits need to have sharp edges.
This is what I do:
I load the prop and click the Group editor. In the dropdown menu I see the groups I specified in Silo. I select one and click "Assign smoothing ID". A window pops up and I fill in a number (!!??) and click OK. Then the window disappears and nothing else happens. I've searched everywhere (including the manual) to find any references to the numbers I typed, to no luck. Am I missing something?

Thread: alpha maps in ecosystem | Forum: Vue
Strange, because the preview shows exactly the effect you want to achieve!
Some things you might want to experiment with:
-There are two ways to apply your alpha transparency. Directly connected to the Alpha node or to the Global transparency node with a variable transparency function.
-Texture maps (Color and Alpha) can be applied as "Texture map" (UV) or "Projected texture map"
Of course you might just have run into one of the bugs........;-)

Looks like the material uses "World" mapping instead of "Object" mapping. Try Object Parametric or Standard.
Cheers!
