Thread: Misbehaving shaders | Forum: Carrara
I have the same problem too - I think that many if you rename all the shaders so they don't conflict with any in the existing scene it should be ok - but I havne't tried it, so I can't say for sure. Oh you can "copy" the file instead of importing it and then paste it into the scene. but then you'll have to copy all the master shaders as well and paste them into the scene too! What a pain in the @$$
Thread: Importing Carrara files | Forum: Carrara
Oh, yeah sure you can resize the frame by dragging the corners - but aren't the xy properties constrained? I meant dragging it to change the aspect ratio. I liked being able to resize it any which way. Unless I'm missing something oh Carrara guru litst :)
Thread: Carrara 2 and Bones | Forum: Carrara
I'm sorry guys, bones smones - lets get a better renderer and some better modeling tools! What good is a bones function if you can't model something decent to use with it and the rendering is only so-so. just my 2 cents.
Thread: OBJ Import & Gummi Shapes | Forum: Carrara
Nah, it's definately Carrara's fault - try importing a mesh from RDS - you get the same problem - all the angles are smoothed over - try importing the object and reducing the smoothing angle - The only imports that seem to hold their creases are 3ds files. I hate Carara's import ability - I've had too many problems with crossing over from RDS to Carrara and having to re crease all the damn edges! I end up just exporting from RDS as a 3ds file (which doesn't work all the time) and importing that way. It's a bug that hasn't been fixed or even bothered with - and it's anoying as hell :)
Thread: Anyone else still use Ray Dream? | Forum: Carrara
Use it most of the time for modeling but I'm moving over to Carrara - with some disappointments. the selection tools in the Vertex Modeler leave much to be desired + everytime I select a point it moves - it's a pain. Also what happened to the nudge keys? or the sizing tools? - there's no "constrain" option. I think if these things were fixed - plus the ability, and I know I've said it before, to perform a simple bevel/filet edge would round out its ability nicely :) I have this bad feeling that there will be no improvements to the modelers in Carrara 2 though - any thoughts??

Thread: Help - Nil Pointer Error? | Forum: Carrara
Hey - my own answer -- carrara doesn't like "hidden" or "invisible" objects - the key is to make all objects visible in the scene before importing into Carrara -
Thread: CARRARA - Damaged objects after the boolean operation? | Forum: Carrara
I am by no means an expert on Booleans in Carrara - what I do know is that Booleans should be avoided at all costs - caus' they just don't work that well. I think the problem you display is because one object is a "solid" object and the other is just a curved plane. I've run into this problem a few times myself. The only solution I've found is to go into the vertex modeller - the holes are made - you just have to manually disconnect the verticies that are messed up.

Thread: Just starting out in 3D and need opinions... | Forum: Carrara
One of the freakiest things about starting out with 3d is the interface. Some packages are just too technical and they can easily intimidate newbies. Cararra's UI is comfy and uncluttered - it feels more like a canvas and less like a "calculator". (thanks for the quote whoever) If you like Poser's UI then Carrara would be a suitable move. And like AzChip said - you can't beat what you get for the price. You get a lot of great stuff -- stuff that I still used to its fullest extent :) I mean, I think I use only a percentage of Carrara's ability and there's stuff that when I discover, I have to sit back and say "damn that's good." Also, it looks like Carrara 2 is due out some time this year -- the probable improvements will just make it all the better.

Carrara's the best program for the price - you really get a super bang for the buck. It's easy and quick to learn.
